The Secrets of Styling Cocktails & Mocktails, Waiting On Martha

What better way to start the week than by announcing a new regular series on the Site; Stylist Secrets.  I thought with all of the styling I do its time to begin passing along some of my styling tips, tricks and secrets.  So lets start with one of my favorites, the power of extra large or decorative ice cubes when creating and styling a cocktail, mocktail, or any drink that requires ice.

Not only are extra large or decorative ice cubes an inexpensive way to really add that “wow” factor to your drink, but they solve a real styling problem.  Regular ice cubes simply melt too fast so by the time you get a shot you like it will usually include half melted small cubes and a watered down drink which is less than ideal.

Also I love using the ice cube trays to freeze things other than water.  Such as the pureed fruit in my Mint Julep, 3 Ways or Coffee Cubes from my Caramel Iced Coffee.  I use the extra large square, high ball and sphere the most, but I just purchased the skull (I love a good skull), gems, anchor, and how could I resist the Georgia bulldog?!  And one last tip, make plenty of cubes ahead of time and store them in pyrex or any sealable, freezable containers so they’re always readily available.  Cheers!  truly, MKR

If you’ve been following along on Instagram then you know I’m currently in the middle of a lot of cross county travel (ATL-SFO-JFK-ATL-ORD-ATL) and the most important thing for me when I travel is comfort.  And I’m not talking wear my pajamas to the airport kind of comfort.  For me it’s all about layers because I’m always cold, my go-to pants, flats that can take me from the airport straight to dinner, and a great carry on.  Other than that just give me wifi and a glass of wine and I’m ready to fly the friendly skies.  truly, MKR

P.S.  I’ll be taking over Sole Society’s Instagram beginning tomorrow sharing all of my NYC adventures and taking a few Sole Society favorites with me so make sure you’re following along.
