By now, you know I love a good blue and white button down shirt.  So you really shouldn’t be surprised over my excitement when I stumbled upon crisp blue and white in a gingham pattern…and in shirtdress form, too!  This number by Alexis is in fact, a romper with a skort bottom, making it one of my new favorite additions to my closet.  And the details…let me tell you about the details.

As I mentioned in this outfit post the other day, Alexis is one of my go-to’s for pieces with exquisite attention to detail. And believe me, with this brand, you’re getting the premium quality that you’re paying for.  My favorite, high-quality detail with this piece is probably its long sleeves with ruffled, spiral cuffs.  They’re just plain fun!  And the flowy shape of the top, along with the fitted, elasticized waistband create just the statement I love in a piece like this.  I’ve found that the blouson shape is pretty much universally flattering.  And here, the bottom also features a higher hem on the sides, along with a concealed skort that ensures you’ll be comfortable and covered up all day.

While I originally discovered and scored this gingham romper at Neiman’s, but I actually just found it on MAJOR sale over at Bergdorf Goodman’s today!  Hurry, hurry and snatch it up before it’s gone; I promise you won’t regret it!

This romper being so fabulous and all, I knew I didn’t want to play it safe with accessories, rather, I wanted to make it pop!  I paired our red straw clutch from the shoppe; it’s a favorite of mine under $35 and perfect for a fun look like this.  I also went for an arm stack party with gold bangles and our bestselling Teleties hair bands that look just as good on the wrist as they do in your hair…and they come in so many great colors.  Lastly, I donned one of my favorite cocktail rings of all time, by Julie Vos.

Tell me, are you a sucker for all things blue and white and gingham like I am?!  This romper gives me life!  Truly, MKR

Red, White, Ruffled & Girly

A feminine and flattering silhouette worth the splurge
Filed Under > #OOTD (Outfit of the Day)

Red & white off the shoulder dress by AlexisAlexis off the shoulder dress on Waiting on MarthaRed white off the shoulder dress by Alexis on Waiting on MarthaOff the shoulder red white dress on Waiting on Martha Red white off the shoulder Alexis dress and straw boater hatA red white Alexis dress with pink accessories A girly and flattering dress by Alexis, Waiting on Martha Visiting Asheville on Waiting on Martha

Recently I’ve found myself being drawn to all things feminine, frilly, and yes that includes ruffles.  Case in point, this beautiful red and white eyelet dress that’s both feminine AND ultra flattering.

I haven’t had this dress for more than a few weeks, and I’ve already worn it twice; once for our shoppe Grand Opening and second on our trip to Asheville.  While it’s easy to see this dress on the more formal side, it can also be dressed down a bit with shorter heels and subtle accessories.  Here, I paired it with my favorite pink mules—sold out now, but similar versions here and here— and my favorite straw hat for a more comfortable casual day look and I couldn’t be a bigger fan of.

This little number by Alexis is hands-down the star of today’s look, and one that I know I’ll continue to wear next season. While I know a lot of people are over the ruffled and off the shoulder trend, I must say I’m happy to see it stick around for a bit.  I really think that off the shoulder is uber flattering for practically any shape and size.  And ruffles when cinched in the right place, are equally flattering.  For example this dress; by being cinched in the waist with a ruffle flair on the skirt I’m able to cover up my least favorite part…my hips/thighs.

Alexis is one of those brands that I’ve come to love for its premium quality and masterful attention to detail.  And that rings true for today’s dress—which happens to be on MAJOR SALE right now!—with the contrast embroidery and off-the-shoulder silhouette.  Not to mention, the fringed ribbon trim, billowing bishop sleeves, and layered skirt just scream A+ detailing to me.

A word to the wise though: Alexis sizing is a bit on the weird size.  I now own three pieces including this new gingham romper I absolutely adore, and none of them are the same size.  So know that going into it, and be prepared to try on or shop around for the perfect fit. Truly, MKR

End of Summer Hydrating Skincare & Hair Essentials

My current favorite products for a little much-needed TLC
Filed Under > Beauty & Tutorials

End of summer always finds me with a renewed desire to give my skin and hair a little TLC after months of sun rays, humidity and what-have-you. Today’s list of products includes some of my favorite hydrating, detoxifying, clarifying and all around MVP products worth giving a whirl this time of year.

We recently introduced Herbivore Botanicals into the shoppe.  And I’m already such a huge fan; the Phoenix Facial Oil, Blue Tansy gel mask and the Detox and Calm bath salts are already some of my favorites in my entire beauty routine. I’m finding that the Blue Tansy mask is the perfect soothing, cooling gel that my skin is craving right now.

As for hair: I’m really digging Aveda’s line right now.  Made without parabens, sulfates and phthalates, the collection of products bring moisture, nutrients and body back into my strands, and at a relatively affordable price point too.  I’m sticking to the Damage Remedy conditioner to help repair dry, brittle ends.  Have you tried any of their products lately?  I’d love to know your go-to’s and favorites!

Read on about the rest of the products below, and like always, chime in with must-try brands and products I should know about!  Truly, MKR

I always find myself needing to give my feet a little extra TLC this time of year, and I’ve turned to our Healing Foot Butter from the shoppe.  It’s made of essential oils like grapefruit, patchouli and lemongrass, and works to soothe and soften dry and tired feet.  Paired with a Merben dry brush, it has the perfect healing effect.

James Read Tan Coconut Melting Tanning Balm

Dermstore, $35

By now you know how fair my skin is, and that I probably don’t wear self tanner a lot.  Until I discovered this one.  It has a blend of organic virgin coconut oil and a hint of self tan, so it’s a deeply hydrating formula that gives a nice subtle glow.
Not to mention, it smells amazing.  Most self-tanners smell like garbage but this one is all coconuts!
