Red, White & Blue; A Classic Combo

Rethinking a color combo I've always shied away from away from

I’m not one to wear red often.  In fact, this might be the only red shirt I actually own.  But there was just something about the classic feel of the stripes with the modern flutter sleeve spin that caught my attention.  And I felt if I’m going to wear red I might as well dive all the way in and pair it with navy for a full blown Americana look. Let’s break it down shall we.

As I said, the stripes caught my attention, but the under $90 price tag made me add it, and the black and white stripe version, to my cart.  And I’m so glad I did.  The shirt itself is so incredibly soft, and the slim fitted jersey balances the large sleeves, creating a flattering silhouette every time.  Even for someone like myself, who rarely wears anything form fitting around my mid section.  While the top fits perfectly tucked into this pleated knee-length skirt from Ann Taylor, it would also look amazing with crisp white denim and heels for a fun night out.

Because I’ve never been shy about professing my love for pom-pom and embellished everything, these embroidered crystal earrings from J.Crew were a quick buy.  They’re in-your-face in the best kind of way; the earrings measure just a little over three inches and really make the playful and vibrant statement that I love during spring and summer. And unlike most large statement earrings, they’re super lightweight.  Win-win in my book!

And these shoes.  Can we talk about how great they are?!  I snagged these  in the recent Shopbop sale and almost wish I had bought two pairs!  They have a gorgeous frayed trim in circle detailing that gives a little nod to pom poms, along with a stacked heel , and triangle-cut straps that add even another layer of interest.  And their coloring is such that they literally go with everything; in fact, a little mis-match and pattern play just makes them better.

Continuing the classic Americana vibes, I grabbed this bamboo clutch.  It’s compact, SO well made and has great texture that I don’t ever want to put it down.  Lastly, to top it off, I stacked my favorite gold all-weather bangles from the shoppe.  They really have become my go to piece this season!

All in all, this look has made me realize two things: maybe I need to re-think my no-red policy, and I’ve already got my go-to outfit for Memorial Day and Fourth of July!   Truly, MKR

The Best Way To Dress For Changing Weather When Traveling

A Transitional Outfit That's Stylish & Comfortable

The struggle is always real when you’re traveling from cold to warmer weather, am I right?!  And especially when packing space is limited in a carry-on suitcase.  But instead of letting this little scenario infringe on your vacay vibes, stick with a few key pieces that will transition you seamlessly in comfort and style.

Those pieces, for me, always include a light coat that’s easily packable and doesn’t take up too much room. This trench is an absolute must-have when traveling, and it even has removable lining for more warmth if needed.  I also always like to travel with a hat so I don’t have to worry too much about my hair.  I prefer to wear my colder weather wool hat en-flight, while carrying my warm weather panama hat for once I land.

Since flights are always on the chilly side, I like to cozy up with a cashmere sweater.  I’ve found the ivory color doesn’t make it feel heavy, even when I’m walking off the tarmac in 80-degrees weather.  And because I know I’ll likely ditch the sweater when I de-board I wear a white bodysuit or a tank.

Along with a pair of ankle jeans, I always like to wear closed toe shoes when traveling, but they can’t feel too heavy or be clunky boots…that’s why I gravitate towards these stylish silver oxfords. While not sandals, I consider them a pair that can be worn all season long.  And they just so happen to be some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve bought.

And to accessorize, because more is always more on vacation, I just picked up these fun gold bangles that are pool-ready and so fabulous. They’re made from a material that won’t ever fade in color, so you can wear them in the water, plus they are so light!  You can easily nail the arm stack, and major statement effect, without the extra added weight that a ton of bracelets tend to bring.

Lastly, the white luggage totally adds to the warm weather vibes.  Isn’t is so gorgeous?!  But don’t fret; if you’re nervous about investing in white luggage, just know that the white is easily wiped down if you do scuff it.  The cognac leather also protects all of the places that might naturally get dinged up in transit.  Oh and this white tote bag is perfect for day, night, or even the pool…so versatile for your trip!

ZAC Zac Posen Bag Giveaway Plus A Blazer To Take You From The Office To Cocktail Hour

The Most Versatile Piece in My Wardrobe Plus a Giveaway You Don't Want to Miss
Filed Under > #OOTD (Outfit of the Day)

There’s nothing better than versatile pieces that can take you from the boardroom to Friday night drinks with your girlfriends.  And while many of you may think that a blazer is not that piece, I’m here to tell you it is.

Take my navy belted blazer for example.  Easily paired with slacks, a silk blouse and pointed toe pumps to rule your nine to five.  Then just as easily paired with a pair of jeans and statement heels for happy hour.  In fact my favorite way to wear this blazer is actually with a lace body suit underneath for date night.  With just a peak of lace showing I still feel comfortable, covered up, and sophisticated, but just a tad on the saucy side.

And you don’t have to spend a fortune, this blazer is actually from Zara!  Sadly, like all great Zara finds, it’s sold out, but I’ve linked similar blazer options herehere, here and here, and I’m OBSESSED with this striped one!  I wore this jacket on stage at Create & Cultivate late last year, and it seriously made me feel like a million bucks the second I put it on.  Can’t beat that!

Just keep in mind you want a blazer to be tailored, but not tight, and very few blazer will EVER fit you correctly off the shelf.  My suggestion, especially if you’re investing in a more expensive one, size one size up and then take it to a tailor.  That way you’ll have the length working for you which is where I find so many people get the look all wrong.

Another thing that happens to help this outfit is my favorite new ZAC Zac Posen bag.  The overall structured feel of the bag accented with the delicate flowers is my favorite combo of masculine and feminine.  Plus with the navy and red colors you don’t have to only wear this floral bag in spring.  And just a little something to brighten your Friday, we’re giving away one of these killer ZAC Zac Posen bags (retail value $550)!  Enter the giveaway via the Rafflcopter below, and good luck friends.  xo Truly, MKR
