With football season halfway underway, and of course the UT-Alabama game today, I knew it was prime time to archive this oldie-but-goodie for some of the best Southern tailgate inspiration around.

I loved this tailgate shoot when MKR teamed up with the talented Danielle Rollins back in 2013, but it’s still one of my favorites to this day (though I may be a tiny bit biased…I’m a Tennessee Vol).  From the tasty tailgate food, to the strong drinks and of course the festive yet tasteful decor, MKR and Danielle styled a legendary Southern tailgate worth repeating season after season.

Be sure to check out our five tailgating essentials, as well as click through to the original posts for the recipes (linked above and found below); my mouth is watering now just thinking about the Tennessee Tangerine Thyme cocktail and I could eat about a dozen hot wings with homemade ranch by myself!  I won’t be at the game today, but of course, I’ll be cheering on my Vols from home, eating lots of tailgate food and humming Rocky Top all weekend long. Cheers, Kat

5 Tailgating Essentials for a Proper Game Day Spread

A Stocked Bar, Easy Bites, Festive Decor & More Things You'll Need to Host In Style
Filed Under > Entertaining

To be quite honest, I think SEC tailgating and the art of a true Southern game day spread (and of course the football that accompanies this) was a huge reason I chose to venture to University of Tennessee a few years ago. The SEC sure knows how to pull out the Southern hospitality in a parking lot or two, and there’s really nothing quite like football time in Tennessee.

You won’t find a proper Southern tailgate without strong drinks (I can’t taste whiskey anymore without thinking of Game Day), finger-licking bites and the rowdiest of fans. Though the discovery that Big Green Egg comes in a mini size is reason enough for a tailgate roundup, I decided to break down five tailgating essentials for a proper gameday spread since I’m feeling extra sentimental about the Vols after their most recent win.

As expected, a well-stocked bar is absolutely essential, whether that includes a build-your-own Bloody Mary station for early games or just a nice variety of good ole whiskey and beer. Easy, bite-size food is often preferred, as well as any kind of dip (people just cannot get enough of a great dip).  And of course, there’s a whole slew of genius tailgating hacks that are great to utilize if you’re on your A-game. Click through the slideshow to learn more, and please tell me about your tailgating must-haves on Game Day!  Go Vols, Kat

Setting the Table with World Market: Part 4

A Dainty, French Bistro Themed Table Perfect for Sweet Treats with the Girls

Over the past few weeks, you’ve joined us around four tables that effortlessly marry casual dining with accessible style, all set with the help of World Market. We created a cool California, wine-country themed table, a rustic and woodsy table fit for an everyday Italian meal, and let’s not forget about last week’s indulgent brunch spread

Today’s final tablescape, and perhaps my favorite of all: a French bistro inspired table, perfect for a morning with the girls to share a little gossip, sip on french press coffee and nibble on tasty treats.  With a decadent display of sweet treats front and center for all to enjoy, you really can’t go wrong.

Create this curated and delicate look at home by mixing in items you already have—varied chargers, small bowls for pastries, antique glasses for lemonade, tea towels, and your favorite flatware. Mix in easy, fresh flowers like violet hydrangeas, potted lavender and budding ranunculus or garden roses to offer the subtle aroma and soft romance that this girly spread deserves.

Round out the table with stacked dessert plates atop washed wood chargers and green woven placemats create that dainty, put-together look that’s perfectly fit for a couple of Parisians at the corner cafe, too engrossed in chatter to count calories at a table full of puff pastries and chocolate-dipped macaroons.  Cheers!  Truly, MKR
