10 Times Bold Wallpaper Made the Room

MKR’s taught me a few things (to say the least), and a love for wallpaper is one of them.  I’m not talking about safe, traditional wallpaper.  I’m talking about bold wallpaper that really makes a room pop.  Some of you may be saying “yes, yes!” to your computer screen right now, and others are shaking your head and pursing your lips.

Well I don’t know why wallpaper always gets such a bad rap…I think maybe it was the 70’s generation  with its tired greens and muted mustards that scarred my mother (who then taught me to fear all papered walls).  But our wildly popular list of wallpaper opened my world to bold options that truly transform a space, and I 100% became a believer in bold wallpaper the second I stepped into MKR’s powder room covered in Thibaut’s orange cheetah print (and I can’t forget the Thibaut Tanzania in the WOM offices).

If you’re hesitant to wallpaper, I don’t blame you, but you’ll be so happy you did.  From what I’ve learned, it’s safest to stick to smaller spaces such as entryways, hallways, stairwells and powder rooms and let the paper’s personality run wild.  As you can see in the slideshow above, bold wallpaper can really make the room.  As you saw in yesterday’s post, Lindsay Cowles’ gorgeous paper definitely made MKR’s space at the ADAC Rathbuns’ Event!  Cheers, Kat

Refresh: #ItsGone 30-Day Bag Challenge

You're Invited to Declutter Once and For All
Filed Under > Everyday

blog-30daychallenge

We’re kicking off our Refresh with perhaps the simplest (yet sometimes hardest) task of all: purging your possessions.  The unnecessary sure has a knack for staying around, especially when it retains a certain sentimental value or hope for a come-back.  But I don’t just mean the sweaters from 2005 that hang stagnant in your closet.  With this 30-day bag challenge, I’m talking about the junk drawers, the guest bedroom closets, the bathroom drawers, the garage, etc.  Alllllll of the stuff, my friends.

I invite you to join me in a 30-day challenge to go through the junk.  Everyday, I’ll be donating a garbage bag full of stuff from the house.  Think piles of old magazines, forgotten cans in the pantry, unused dinnerware in the cupboards, old shoes in the closet, bookshelves off dusty books that deserve a new home.

Now, if the sound of getting rid of a garbage bag’s worth of stuff scares you, shoot smaller; donate a grocery bag.  The simple practice of parting with things you do. not. need. will help you truly “refresh” as you start the new year.  Believe me, I’ve taken a headstart (#sorrynotsorry) and I already feel a million times better.

Follow along on Instagram stories and Snapchat (username WAITINGONMARTHA) as I sift through my stacks and stashes and find a better home for it all.  We’d love to see your progress too, so be sure to tag @waitingonmartha and #itsgone as you join in on the fun.  And of course, we’ll be talking later this month on tips and tricks to live (and buy) smarter for your wardrobe and home.  Truly, MKR

P.S. Looking for what to do with all your stuff?!  Think beyond the obvious donation spots (where it could even eventually end up at a landfill), and instead do a little research on a great local charity that will benefit from your donations (think Women in Distress, AMVets or even PETA if applicable). Some organizations will even schedule a pick-up from your home to make it an easy, seamless process.

Fall MUST…Shoes

From left to right, top to bottom…Derek Lam marta bootie  ||  Alice & Olivia tartan heel  ||  Sole Society cambria slipper  ||  Rachel Zoe 3 buckle boot  ||  Zara platform boot  ||  Zara silk satin heel (last seen HERE)  ||   Boutique 9 buckle boot  ||  Sole Society skylar bootie  ||  Zara moccasin with tassel  ||  Stuart Weitzman 50/50 boot

Shoes.  Glorious, glorious shoes.  I’m not sure there’s anything in my closet I love as much as shoes.  And fall is definitely my favorite “shoe” time of year because of all the options.  So many options!  This season I’m buying over the knee boots (perfect with my daily uniform of leggings), booties…preferably with tons of buckles and motorcycle inspired, smoking slippers (my absolute fave), and anything plaid…really anything “men’s” inspired as that obsession of mine continues, case in point THESE are already in my closet.  So tell me, what pair, or rather pairs, of shoes do you have on your fall wish list?  truly, MKR
