5 Things I Learned from Reading Love Style Life

A Light, Relatable and Downright Lovable Read by Garance Doré

Love Style Life, Takeaways from Garance Dore's book - Waiting On Martha

At the end of January, we dished on a few books on the WOM reading list, and at the top of mine? Love Style Life by the fabulously chic and entertaining Garance Doré.  With the new year, I was in the mood for a little style inspiration, and lately I’ve been taking a few notes from the ever-chic Parisians to define my own look with timeless essentials (and a lot less makeup).  I did, after all, obsess over How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are, so I knew I’d be in for a treat with the first book by one of my favorite Parisians-turned-New-Yorkers.

In Love Style Life, Garance’s points are kept light in her lovable and totally relatable way.  She talks about growing up, her failures and successes.  She jokes about a few extra lbs, unruly hair, and stresses the importance of knowing your body and understanding what works (high-waisted pants don’t work for Garance, and neither do they for me!). She shares style essentials for your wardrobe and beauty routine, while giving a few personal recommendations of picks she’s loved for years (I’m even closer to ordering a pair of investment pumps now, and I can’t wait to try out her favorite bronzer that’s not too shimmery).

But my favorite part of Garance’s philosophy on love, style and life?  She doesn’t take herself too seriously, and her voice throughout the book is both endearing and refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book cover to cover (and I’m sure I’ll read it again soon), and I must say it looks gorgeous on my #shelfie.  Until you have a chance to flip through its pages (find Garance’s fabulous illustrations throughout), check out a few things that especially resonated with me in today’s slideshow (click on the image above to view).

Already raced through your copy of Love Style Life?  I’d love to hear if you, too, were inspired by Garance’s take on style, and any recommendations for my next read.  (I also just finished All the Light We Cannot See, and OH it was sooo good!)  Cheers, Kat

P.S. Be sure to read what Garance shares with Harper’s Bazaar about her favorite topics in Love Style Life. xo

Sunday’s Best With Draper James

Dressed to the Nines in Reese Witherspoon's New & Charming Label

I’m always drawn to a shirtdress, and this navy short sleeve dress by Draper James (Reese Witherspoon’s new and positively charming brand) had my name written all over it. It’s my favorite color, it’s super flattering AND it has pockets, which was a definite hook-line-and-sinker for me because any dress with pockets is genius by me.  In fact I’ve come to love pockets so that I get angry when a dress or skirt doesn’t have them; I mean why not always have pockets?  But that’s a different rant for a different day.

Anyway, I plan to style the Acklen shirtdress numerous was to take me from spring to summer, though I think it was truly created for “Sunday’s best.”  Though on days other than Sunday I plan wear it with heels and some fancy jewels for a night on the town, and paired with flats and a denim jacket for a comfortable, easy day-at-the-farmer’s-market vibe.

The beauty of this shirtdress is it doesn’t need much styling. But here I added a fun, bright jeweled necklace (similar here) to really bring out the floral collar and paired it with my favorite grey suede pumps to complete the look.  Lastly, I’m majorly crushing on this circle crossbody bag!  It’s so versatile; so don’t be surprised if you see it many, many more times.

In the words of Reese, I’m just “pleased as punch” with the dress, and the whole Draper James collection.  I mean have you checked out their home and giftable goodies?  I think I need this, this, and of course this.  I mean wine not?  Truly, MKR

My Go-To Cold Weather Uniform

In These Last Winter Weeks, I Have These Comfy, Chic Staples on Repeat

It’s pretty simple; in these last weeks of winter, I find myself gravitating to some of my favorite neutrals in my closet.  They’re all super cozy, and they are effortlessly chic when paired together.

First, THE best nude turtleneck sweater. I mean this sweater just screams cozy.  It was one of those golden finds from Zara last year…you know those particular Zara finds that you have to grab ’em while you can, because you won’t find them again.  It’s always bittersweet when you find a piece like this, yet it’s also worth celebrating.

Second, my favorite black distressed jeans that I wear all of the time. They’re comfortable to wear all day, and they instantly give my outfit a little edge to balance out the oversized sweater.

Next up, a structured, black leather purse that can take me all the way through business meetings to happy hour.  You know I’m a huge fan of Zac bags (as you can see here), so this beauty was a welcome recent addition in my wardrobe.

Lastly, a pair of statement sunnies always, because the struggle is real when it comes to that sunny winter glare!  Truly, MKR
