Breaking a sweat everyday can not only help you look great, it can help you truly “recharge” after an indulgent, perhaps way-too-stationery holiday season. And as you’re motivating yourself to get to the gym, remember that there’s no denying the power of a new pair of yoga pants or a fancy new sports bra when you’re on the fence about getting up and doing it. I’d go so far as to say there’s scientific proof that it helps you workout harder. Surely it’s out there; I know it’s 100% true with my workout routine.
So if you’re looking for that extra boost this month to get to sweating, check out my picks for the best workout clothes below. And if you need some workout inspo, see these five great workouts to try (you’ll quickly become as obsessed as I am) as well as these tips on how to stay motivated in your routine. Good luck, and I’d love to hear how you stay motivated to get active this time of year! Cheers, Kat
Not only do they make a heck of a fashion statement in the gym, athletic shoes are obviously key points in your movement. It’s important to replace them on time, too, because you’ll then prevent injuries. A good rule of thumb is that you should replace your sneakers about every 3-6 months, or every 300-500 running/walking miles and 45-60 hours of basketball, tennis, aerobics, etc.
I know I desperately need a new pair of kicks, and these Nike Air Zoom Pegasus are just the perfect ones. They have incredible reviews on Zappos for both comfort and style, and price right under $100.
This zip-up sweater jacket is cozy, warm and perfect for getting to-and-from the gym. I suffer from post-workout chills, and having a solid jacket after my body cools down is an absolute must for me. The drawstring collar and thumbholes are a few details that are much appreciated as soon as you try it on for yourself.
Having a great sports bra is a no-brainer for a workout, especially for someone like me that needs the support. A strong sports bra can help prevent irreversible damage that can lead to “sagging” breast tissue.
But it’s difficult, I’m discovering, to find stylish sports bras with strappy, intriguing details that still give maximum support in the front. I’m a big fan of this brand ONZIE as well as Lorna Jane and Lululemon for producing sports bras that can take the impact.
I am always on the lookout for amazing new leggings, and I’d say my favorite brand is Beyond Yoga, hands down. They’re soft, moveable, incredibly flattering and well made. Gone is the day when we think Lululemon is the only powerhouse brand for yoga pants, my friends.
This pair features mesh insets at the sides, and bold black contrast paneling. The rest of the design has a stretchy space-dyed grey that is, dare I say, timeless in the gym?!
Another good product by my favorite, Beyond Yoga, is the effortlessly cool (literally, it’s breathable) muscle tank. This muscle tank is super flattering and pretty much weightless when you’re doing a workout. I like to stick to wearing this one when I’m at a barre class due to the fit and shape. And with other muscle tanks, I tie them in a small knot in the front when I’m doing a high-intensity workout.
Here’s another supportive, yet stylish sports bra that’s a must-own (especially with its recent markdown price). It’s ideal for running, cardio-focused classes like Zumba, Barre3 and high intensity interval training.
Its “fine European microfiber” brings the much-needed superior stretch, yet covetable softness that we all want in a sports bra. And the breathable perforations and racerback detailing are more plusses in my book, too.
I hope you’re not tired of my love for Beyond Yoga yet, because these are the best things on this list; the High Waist Leggings that put all of the rest of mine to shame. They are incredibly flattering on the tush and thighs, and I literally live in them.
From Beyond Yoga: “…exceptional slip-free coverage and comfort thanks to a high, non-binding waistband. Moisture-wicking fabric dries quickly to keep you cool and comfortable, and smooth flatlock seams reduce uncomfortable chafing.” Done and done.
Perfect for the sneaker-freaker and chic gym-goer, these metallic mesh sneakers are great for running in style. They feature TechLoom Pro’s signature lightweight mesh that offers ventilation and a dry fit. The second you put these puppies on, you’ll feel the comfort and stability that will inspire you to get moving, believe me.
I’ve always adored The Derby. It may be because it falls on my birthday. Or it may be because it’s a day that celebrates extra large hats, pastels, and dainty lace gloves. Or it may be because I get to sip a mint julep while celebrating my birthday and wearing an extra large hat and dainty lace gloves. Yep, thats it. And this year for The Derby, I bet big and created three different ways to enjoy this festive libation. The classic julep, a strawberry mint julep and a tangerine julep complete with fruit filled ice molds, (simply buy THESE and freeze the juice with a tad bit of puree the night before). So Loves grab your hat, pick your horse and happy Derby! truly, MKR
MKR and I have a little joke; I’m always sooo sad to see summer go, and she’s the one cheering on the start of fall. So naturally, I had to do a final roundup of favorite finds to savor the last days of sweet summertime. You know, before we get all fall-pumpkins-and-cider on you. Because, after all, there are still weeks of warm weather to enjoy, dozens of picnics and pool parties to plan, and maybe even a last vacay to sneak away on! Not to mention, there are a TON of great end-of-season sales right now, especially over at MatchesFashion.com and Shopbop. Those platform gladiator sandals are calling my name, as is that swimsuit! Cheers, Kat
