Getting Cozy With Nate Berkus at Target

Updating my favorite space with the new Nate Berkus at Target Fall 2016 Line

It’s official; everything Nate Berkus touches turns to gold.  Case in point: his amazing new fall/holiday collection at Target.

I’ve been a fan of Nate’s for what seems like forever, and anytime he releases a new Nate Berkus at Target Collection I’ve been known to rush to my nearest Target at all hours of the day or night to get my hands on pieces from the line.  So when I got the opportunity to collaborate on the Nate Berkus at Target fall/holiday line I of course jumped at the chance to add a few of his latest and greatest to my home.

If you remember, this isn’t our first collaboration with Nate.  Last year I collaborated on a spring living room refresh and you’ll still find all of the pieces scattered throughout my home and office.  That collection was all about laid-back California vibes, making it perfect for the freshness and warmth that spring always seems to bring.  But this collection is completely different, and completely perfect for switching things up as temps begin to drop and the holidays begin to sneak up on us.

And I must say, this most recent collection may have any collections from the past beat, because this time he’s introduced furniture to the line!  That’s right…furniture.  And in all of its black and white and gold goodness, it’s really a no-brainer that it’s going to be a hit.  The whole collection is so strong, but I think it’s the furniture that is truly the strongest.  I was extremely impressed with the construction of the pieces, especially at the wallet-friendly price point.

With the look of the fall line (textured neutrals, elegant metallics and subtle glam details), I knew immediately I wanted to incorporate these pieces into my bedroom sitting room.  This time of year, it’s where you’ll find me with a glass of wine, my favorite magazines by the fire.  And as you’ll remember, the space doesn’t shy from the drama; the walls are painted a deep, rich grey and includes a cozy spot with a coffee table and two grand statement armchairs.  Pretty much perfect for a little black, white and gold, no?

I was quick to grab this gorgeous gold side table.  In any part of my home, I like to have little tables like this for drinks, candles, magazines…you name it. They’re easy to move around, and perfect for when you’re cuddled in a corner and have no plans on moving.

I also picked up this great little black and rattan ottoman.  As you can see in the photos, it’s intricate construction makes this piece really stand out, and works wonderfully next to the chairs.

Naturally I have a bar cart in the room, so I picked up these cool gold obelisks as accent pieces as well as this white vase to house my collected quail feathers.

On our coffee table, I added this wood studded box (for stashing the not-so-pretty necessities such as remotes!) and this beautiful starburst gold bowl for my collection of matches. And of course no coffee table is complete without a tray, and this striking black and gold hexagon tray, is both a piece of art and also serves a most functional purpose.

Lastly, throw pillows.  I’m one of those people that change out my throw pillows every season, so I was quick at the draw with this faux sheepskin one (it feels very wintery), as well as this fun geo pillow with tassels and denim studded pillow.  Those along with his striped tassel throw will help make it hard to leave once settled in.

Obsessed much?  Yes, yes I am. But my excitement over the finds doubled (tripled really) at the chance to chat with Nate about the collection. I loved hearing that he really does travel to Target’s HQ in Minnesota, to do a little quality control on every product.  That means touching and testing every single sample.  And if something doesn’t feel right?  In his own words “it’s either fixed or pitched.”  Knowing that he signs off on everything that makes it to the shelves makes me love, and trust everything that much more.

I also asked him if it was hard to design within Target’s friendly price point?  To my surprise he quickly responded that it wasn’t.  Explaining that Target is super open-minded when it comes to his ideas on materials and designs and trying to make what he’s envisioning come to life.

Finally, we of course talked about inspiration.  Nate said he’s the most inspired by his globe trotting ways; and is constantly bringing back samples, pieces, and textures from all over the world that he tries to work into his designs. And as if he could get any cuter, he mentioned how much he loves seeing how everyone styles the pieces in their own homes. So get to Instagramming, because NB is watching what you share!

Tell me friends, have you scored pieces from the Nate Berkus 2016 Fall/Holiday collection yet?! Truly, MKR

P.S.  I’ll be sharing a few more great finds from the collection as part of the big ORC reveal (wait till you see the bathroom rugs), so stay tuned!  xo

The List: My Recent Binge-Worthy Beauty Buys

From White Sage Smudge Sticks, Sunday Riley, An On-the-Go Bling Brush & More...here are the beauty products I'm currently binging on
Filed Under > Beauty & Tutorials

Essential oils, white sage smudge sticks, renewing serum, all natural face wash & more | @waitingonmartha

I’ve finally admitted to myself that I’ve been on a bit of a beauty product binge this summer.  Maybe it’s because I’ve been switching over to a lot of natural and holistic products, (think white sage smudge sticks).  Maybe it’s because the older I get, the more I truly understand that taking care of my skin should be top priority.  But whatever the reason, I don’t see this binging stopping any time soon.  So today, I’m sharing a few new binge-worthy picks that have earned their coveted spot on my vanity, with a few oldies that I’ve fallen in love with all over again.

Starting with the newcomers; Sunday Riley, Sapelo Skin Care and Damn Good Face Wash have continued my obsession with oils and the art of a proper daily beauty routine.  Aerin, Tom Ford and Morrocanoil have resurfaced, and officially earned spots on my forever list.  And on the holistic side of things, I’ve possibly gone off the deep end misting essential oils in numerous rooms, keeping three different himelayan salt lamps burning at all times, and I may or may not be lighting white sage smudge sticks around the house to purify the air.  I swear everything just feels more pure.  Read on below for a few of my other current faves, and please let me know if there’s anything you’re binging on right now!  Truly, MKR

No. 1…Essential Oils & Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser.  I’ve been on a huge essential oils kick lately, and I have this diffuser running every night with relaxing lavender essential oil

No. 2…Sunday Riley Good Genes All-in-One Lactic Acid Treatment. This stuff definitely has a cult following, as you can see from these reviews. I, of course, had to see what all the buzz was about, and I totally get it now.  After only a few uses, I felt my skin’s texture dramatically improve (smoothing out acne scars and fine lines), and I swear I do have a little glow about me!

No. 3…Tom Ford Cream Cheek Color. Though the palette looks a bit coral-y, this cream blush would look good on practically anyone. I tap a little bit on my finger and put on my nose and cheekbones. The color is dewy and goes on wonderfully…and a little goes a long way.

No. 4…NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner. I really just love a good blue eyeliner; it makes the eyes pop. This one by NARS lasts throughout the day too, which is good because there’s nothing worse than glancing in the mirror later in the day to find that all of your eyeliner has disappeared!

No. 5…Tom Ford Cream & Powder Eye Color. Besides the fact that this bronzey-gold is absolutely jaw-dropping, I love that this eyeshade duo is wet AND dry.  This duo, however, is not cheap.  But what I’ve found is that I use so very little (seriously I only use like one tiny drop) it will likely last for a year.

No. 6…White Sage Smudge Sticks.
As I said above I have went full boar and bought into this ancient incense to purify the air in my home.  To use, you simply light the smudge sticks on fire and let them smolder, filling the room with the healing scent of sage.  If you really have some trouble areas you’re supposed to open the windows and doors and waft the smoke over the troubled area (ie spots with ghosts or bad juju) and out the window or door.

No. 7…Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle.  I’ve been a longtime fan of Aerin fragrances, and I knew I had to try this one the second I saw it.  I’m thrilled (but not surprised) to say that this one does not disappoint.

No. 8…Bling Brush.  I am just so in love with this on-the-go jewelry cleaner.  It looks a little like concealer, but it’s actually a natural cleaner for your diamonds!  It’s so easy to use, and it truly makes my diamonds shine like they do when I get them professionally cleaned.  AND it’s only $18.

No. 9…Moroccanoil Treatment. My hair has felt extra dry lately, so I’ve come back to the Moroccanoil line. I used to use the stuff religiously for years, and am happy to see its luxurious effects on my locks again. I also have the hydrating shampoo and conditioner – which are both game-changers.

No. 10…Sapelo Renewing Serum. I use this heavenly face serum as the first step in my daily skincare routine, after cleansing.  Being water-based, the serum gives my face and neck a full hydration one-over, while delivering other essential nutrients that my skin happily soaks up.  It’s super moisturizing and super effective; I’ve noticed my skin feels tighter and firmer thanks to boosted collagen and elastin production. The ladies behind Sapelo and its amazing nature-based southern skincare line are SO worth checking out.

No. 11…Damn Good Face Wash The Works. This handmade, all-natural and ultra nourishing facial wash is a recent Etsy find.  The face wash is coconut-oil based, and works to pull impurities and toxins out of the skin, while combating blemishes. Love love love.

N0. 12…Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil.  Another find from the brand with a true cult following, the Luna Sleeping Night Oil.  I put this oil on my face and neck before going to bed, and have kept at it to shrink pores and smooth out some new lines.

My Top 10 Must-Haves from Williams-Sonoma

A list of my top kitchen essentials from one of my favorite stores
Filed Under > Entertaining

My top 10 kitchen essentials from Williams-Sonoma

It will come to no surprise to you that spending time in the kitchen is one of my favorite things to do.  As you may remember, I vowed to return to making more homemade weeknight meals at home in the new year… and more time around the table has been glorious.  I’ve recently become obsessed with a few new tools and gadgets, and I knew it was due time to share my top kitchen essentials from Williams-Sonoma with all of you!  Truly, MKR

P.S. I hope by now you’ve entered Williams-Sonoma & Fortessa‘s amazing giveaway to spend time in my happy place (wine country), right? If not, there’s still time!  Enter here through March 15.  xo

No. One.  Philips Air Fryer.  You heard me talk about the air fryer last week, but I really cannot stop singing its praises.  As a quick reminder in case you missed our chicken wing story, this super high tech, but ultra user friendly air fryer calls for little to no oil and still fries up all of your favorites perfectly.  I’ve made wings, fish, potato chips, and next up onion rings!

No. Two.  Any and all Schott Zwiesel stemware.  In my book, Schott Zwiesel is the creme de la creme when it comes to my preferred wine carrying vessel.  I’m particularly fond of these pretties.

No. Three.  Fortessa flatware.  While I love all of Fortessa’s gorgeous flatware, my heart belongs to the Lucca and Royal Pacific setting.  The bamboo is classic and gold flatware, always adds just the right touch of “special occasion” to any meal.

No. Four.  Mini Classic Croissants.  Ever since being introduced to these via an Oprah’s favorite things, I’ve never not had them in my freezer.  Buttery, rich, and bite size…there really are no words.

No. Five.  KitchenAid Pro Mixer.  Probably my most used kitchen item, and worth every penny.  I do not bake, mix, or make anything without my KitchenAid Pro.  And p.s. you’ll have it FOREVER.

No. Six.  Silpat Mats.  Scratch the above statement; Silpat mats are hands down my most used kitchen item.  They keep your pans and cookie sheets perfectly clean, eliminate the use of a non-stick spray, and they even come in mini toaster oven and microwave size.  I have six, that’s how serious I am about Silpat.

No. Seven.  Fortessa’s Restaurant Collection.  Clean lines and bright white allowing the food to be the star, Fortessa’s restaurant collection can transition from every day to formal dining.

No. Eight.  Chili Lime Rub.  This pick is on behalf of the Mr.; no joke he stock piles this rub.  If he’s grilling then this is his secret meat weapon.

No. Nine.  PL8 Professional Chopper.  I was so impressed by this little guy, I snapchatted it the other day (one more reason to follow on Snapchat so you don’t miss out on all my favorite finds…username WAITINGONMARTHA).  Anyway, the PL8 professional chopper chops up anything and deposits the perfectly cut pieces into a dish below.  I made tacos the other night and was able to using the PL8 was able to chop up 2 onions, 3 jalapenos, 1 tomato, 1 green pepper, and numerous garlic cloves in less then 5 minutes!

No. Ten.  Rubber Spatulas.  It may not be flashy, but rubber spatulas are my go-to kitchen utensil, and Williams-Sonoma’s are of the highest quality, so you won’t need to constantly replace them.
