Decadent Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Sauce

A Decidedly Delightful Dessert for Everyone's Sweet Tooth Craving

Today’s recipe is an elevated take on every chocolate lover’s dream (Mama K are you listening).  Smooth, velvety chocolate cake shares the spotlight with one of my personal favorites, fresh raspberry.  Add in a boozy component of raspberry liqueur in this decidedly delightful dessert from Chef Jason of Homespun

To most (and I’ll raise my hand), dreams of baking a homemade chocolate cake seems like a whole lot of effort.  So you’ll be pleased to find most of this cake’s ingredients already in your pantry at home, minus a little raspberry liqueur and fresh raspberries. Yes, working with a springform pan takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of that, the whole baking process is quite enjoyable (and even therapeutic I think).  And more than enjoyable, the end result is incredibly worth it: a homemade chocolate cake with raspberry sauce that’s rich, moist and beyond decadent.  And the raspberry sauce is so incredibly simple to make, which tempts me to find other recipes to include it in!  Cheers, Kat

Life with Less Screen Time & More Homemade Cranberry Orange Scones

Taking Time in the Morning for Slow Moments & Simple Pleasures

Over the past few months, I’ve really been trying (trying being the operative word) to have less screen time in the morning. You see I have fallen hard into the rabbit hole of checking emails, texts, Instagram, my bank account—basically every app on my phone, if we’re being honest here—all before I had left the bed and started my day.  And doing so does not make for a great day.  You see, it effected my entire day.  I felt rushed, stressed, behind-the-eight-ball on life pretty much, because I was simply reacting to the hustle and bustle.  And I knew if I didn’t put a stop to it soon I wouldn’t be able to differentiate my morning, from my afternoon, from my night.

So when Truvia Sweetener reached out and asked how I felt about sharing their “life with less” campaign, I took it as a sign and jumped on board.  I mean life with less screen time; I think that’s something we can all get behind, no?  Just imagine: mornings without my phone.  Mornings without emails.  Morning without feeling that surge of panic and anxiety rush through my veins.  And instead, mornings with my favorite magazines.  Mornings with a cup of fresh coffee and breakfast where I actually sat down.  Mornings that wrapped me in comforts—no matter how small they might be—to help me face my day with a renewed energy and sense of purpose.

And with that gentle nudge from my friends at Truvia, I’ve returned to a simpler morning routine, which of course, includes a recipe for my favorite, no-fuss homemade cranberry scones.  Baked with simple, classic ingredients, these homemade cranberry scones are perfect because I can make them ahead, and have enough to enjoy for the week.  Plus it helps that Truvia Natural Sweetener is zero-calorie and stevia-based which allows me to reduce sugar in any of my baking recipes… which means I can eat twice as many!  Truly, MKR

White Bean Soup with Chili Oil, Bacon Croutons & Fried Sage

Homespun Shares the Perfect Recipe to Enjoy on a Cold Day

To me, nothing says cozy on a cold day like a big bowl of hearty soup. It’s been quite a while since we shared a recipe for one of our favorite comforts this time of year (it’s probably about time we pull our smoked french onion soup out of the archives!).  So when our friends at Homespun hinted at sharing a taste of their white bean soup with chili oil and bacon croutons…well I knew we had to make it happen.

I think Chef Jason had me at “white bean soup” (as a long-time white bean chili lover, I knew I’d be a fan) but he really hooked me with the thought of adding chili oil for that added depth of flavor and, of course, homemade bacon croutons.  I mean, homemade croutons are ALWAYS a treat, but add bacon to the mix and I’m a goner.  Cheers, Kat
