Friday's Musts, Lusts & Loves

Happy Friday Loves!  Unlike my usual Musts, Lusts and Loves this week it’s all about ONE thing.  What do you wonder could possibly satisfy all 3 categories?  Not what, but rather who.  Thomas Keller.  (If you don’t know who Thomas Keller is then just stop reading and go about your day, if you do then by all means read on).

Last year the Mr. and I spent a week in heaven (otherwise known as Yountville) where we gorged ourselves on food and wine (lots of wine).  Though I obviously knew of Thomas Keller I hadn’t had the pleasure of eating at any of his restaurants.  And then like a kid in a candy store in 1 week we dined at Ad Hoc, Bouchon, Bouchon Bakery, and the crazy-amazing The French Laundry.  We even spent time in The French Laundry Kitchen…beyond amaze.  So when I heard he was coming to Atlanta for a signing of his latest book…well done and done.  And it’s not just a signing, it’s also a tasting of sweet treats at Aria.

Below are all of the deets, and I imagine there are other stops on his tour so check it out and see if he’s coming to your city.  And if you’re in Atlanta I’ll see you there.  Happy weekend loves.  xoxo

Beauty Bag

Filed Under > Beauty & Tutorials

One of the beauties of getting older (if you can call it a beauty) is developing a skin care regime, and your go-to beauty essentials.  I have horribly sensitive, combination skin so it has taken me years to even find products that I can tolerate let alone products that I love.  So with that small amount of wisdom that comes with trial and error I thought I’d share my ever evolving list of what’s in my beauty bag.  xoxo

Coconut Oil Beauty Bag waitingonmartha.com

  1. Kinerase…I have extremely sensitive skin and this is the only moisturizer I’ve EVER found that actually moisturizes without clogging my pores and breaking me out
  2. SK II Facial Essence…hands down the BEST product I’ve ever found.  I use this every morning and night before moisturizer and I don’t really know what it does other than give my skin a great glow.  I put it on my neck and hands as well because I read of it’s amazing anti aging effects, and again not sure how it does it, or why, but my skin glows…GLOWS people!
  3. Seche Clear…a classic, must have perfect nail topcoat.
  4. Sundari Chamomile Eye Oil…I have large eyes that aren’t going to age well so I’m taking every precaution I can now and my current obsession is this eye oil.
  5. Bare Minerals Foundation and Bronzer…again I have sensitive skin and this offers the perfect coverage and a built in SPF.
  6. Marc Jacobs Cosmetic Bag…fun and functional.
  7. Leaf & Rusher Roller…this strange little device has 190 teeny tiny needles that when rolled gently over the skin is said to help increase collagen and release toxins.  Again not sure how it works but I swear it does!
  8. Organic Grapeseed Oil a.k.a. my shave gel…I’ve never found a shave gel that moisturizes like grape seed oil.  I promise, once you try it you’ll never use a shave gel, cream, or lotion again.
  9. Organic Coconut Oil…I use this rather than body lotion.  Not only does it smell amazing, I mean it is edible, it locks in moisture like nothing else.
  10. Clairsonic Cleansing Brush...if you haven’t heard of this you’ve been living under a rock.  Believe the hype, it’s the perfect cleansing brush.
  11. La Mer Eye Concentrate…back to the prevention of eye bags.  I’ve tried all of the expensive, typical eye creams and La Mer still comes out on top.

The Top Ten Tools Every Baker Should Own

With the Holidays fast approaching I thought I’d let you peek inside my pantry to see the top ten baking tools I believe every baker should own.  And it was hard to narrow it down to ten, I didn’t even include my beloved Silpat Mats (probably because I’ve talked about them at least a dozen times before on the Blog), so I’d love to hear if I’ve left off one of your baking necessities?  Truly, MKR

No. 01 – Ice Cream Scoops.  Not just for ice cream scoops will allow you to scoop consistent amounts of batter into muffin pans, cupcake pans, and cookie dough so your cookies are of similar shape and size.  Just make sure you get the scoop with a spring loaded wire scraper so it will easily release your batter our dough.

No. 02 – Rolling Pins.  I have so many rolling pins I’m beginning to lose count, but if I could only narrow it down to two I’d have a tapered rolling pin and your standard 12″ wood rolling pin.

No. 03 – Prep Dishes.  It’s always best to have all of your ingredients measured, chopped, and ready to go in numerous prep dishes so you’re not rushing around the kitchen trying to get the right amount poured in at the right time.  Plus it helps to keep the kitchen on the tidy side.

No. 4 – Bakers Twine.  Twine is an absolute kitchen necessity, I just prefer the striped bakers twine as its perfect for pretty packaging.

No. 5 – Pastry Cutters.  What can I say I like fancy pie crust.  And speaking of pie may I suggest these and this, also baking must haves for me.

No. 6 – Icing Spatula.  I have at least 5 icing spatulas in all different sizes, they really are the end all be all for icing cakes.

No. 7 – Nielsen-Masey Vanilla.  Yes I know it’s expensive, but the taste of your food is always a reflection of how good your ingredients are so always bake with the best.

No. 8 – Microplane Grater.  One of my kitchens most used tools a microplane grater is perfect for adding cinnamon and nutmeg spice and citrus flakes to any dish.

No. 9 – Cooling Racks.  I’m guilty of not allowing my desserts to properly cool before attempting to ice, or remove from the pan, etc.  I’ve learned my lesson though and now everything is cooled appropriately on racks.

No. 10. – Salt Pig.  Baking is all about getting the precise, exact measurement and a salt shaker just won’t do.  Get a pig or a salt bowl so you can get just the right 1/8 teaspoon when needed.
