Day to Night Denim

The Perfect jeans to carry me throughout my day
Filed Under > #OOTD (Outfit of the Day)

I’m an absolute lover of denim.  Recently though, I noticed I tend to only wear two types of denim. Denim that is comfortable, and functional enough to get me through my day…read boyfriend jeans.  And denim that is more on the formal, and on the tighter side, for a night out on the town.  The problem is my hectic schedule doesn’t always allow me to run home and change. So this past week I set out to add a few new jeans to my wardrobe that would carry me easily from day to night.

I of course gravitated towards a brand I’ve been wearing for over a decade now; 7 for all mankind.  I find their jeans always fit me just right, and last forever.  Plus they have the largest variety of styles, and for this particular shopping trip finding a new style outside my comfort zone was key.

I tried on numerous shapes, sizes and styles, but ultimately went with the Ali cropped jeans with a frayed raw edge. I knew if I wanted this jean to truly take me from am to pm I’d have to go with a crop that way I wouldn’t need to worry about the height of heel I would have to wear.

I also chose a lighter shade of denim thinking how this light color would look great with my favorite sneakers, as well as dressed up with my favorite heels.  Plus with spring right around the corner I liked the lighter, not so serious feeling it gave me.

And the raw edge.  Well that’s just a little bit of flare and my favorite part.  When initially seeing such a dramatic frayed edge as this you might not think it wouldn’t pair well with a more formal look, but it’s that unexpected touch that I feel makes it perfect for a more dressed up look. I mean how fun is all the fraying paired with my favorite ruffled pink mules?!

Lastly, the Ali is super comfortable.  The denim is worn in and soft to the touch, plus they’re a high rise fit which is all I’m wearing right now.  So over the low rise, all about the high rise.

All in all, I’m thrilled with the outcome and haven’t taken these babies off in at least a week!  Truly, MKR

The One Room Challenge Week Six

The end is near!

With week six here I’m starting to feel a bit like a broken record.  I just don’t have a lot to share since last week.  In fact, I’m actually writing this from a hotel room in Chicago crossing my fingers that I’ll arrive home tomorrow to box upon box of the remaining items and 130 yards of custom draperies complete. Fingers crossed.

In all the years that I’ve participated in the ORC I’ve never been this far behind, or had this many delays that are totally out of my control happen.  So what have I learned?

First, create a game plan well in advance of your due date.  I’m known for procrastinating. I’ve convinced myself for years that I do best under pressure, and love burning the midnight oil.  But that’s complete crap.  Procrastination does nothing for me except stress me the hell out. And procrastination only works when the only part of the puzzle is you.  But when you have to depend on PR firms, designers, and factories procrastination just doesn’t work.  A good rule of thumb is 6-8 weeks ahead of your design due date, but if there’s any custom work than plan for 12 weeks out to be on the safe side.

Second, control what you can control and let go of the rest.  This has been a message that has been drilled into my head this past month.  Is everything I do at WOM important; of course it is.  But, at the end of the day I’m not curing cancer.  There are going to be delays out of my control, out of the vendors control, designers control, etc.  It’s bound to happen.  And if those delays are being felt in this ORC and not the past four I’ve been a part of then I should consider myself lucky!  I mean last year I decorated two full apartments in six weeks!!

Lastly, plan for a Plan B.  While this may feel contrary to what I just said I’m a big believer in hoping for the best, yet preparing for the worst.  Again, mistakes are bound to happen, it’s all about how you react to them.  Don’t get frazzled, take a breath and get back on track or forge a new track.  I have a feeling when next week rolls around you’re going to see my Plan B/New Track path in action.

Anyway, that’s where I’m at.  It may not be pretty, but it’s truthful.  I will however be sharing lots of behind the scenes snaps tomorrow, when I’m finally home, and please do click through below to check out the rest of my participants.  I guarantee they have more interesting news to share than I.  Truly, MKR

Bag Stalking With Martha

As many of you know I’m jetting off to NYC next month to be a guest at Martha Stewart’s Dreamers Into Doers 2 day event.  And of course I’ve extended my trip to catch up with old friends, nosh on some amazing food and of max out my credit card!  One of the “big ticket” purchases I plan to make is a new bag, but what new bag that will be is up in the air.  So I’m putting it out to you, my equally bag obsessed loves, to help me decide.  Below are the 5 bags I’m obsessing over the most, leave me a comment and let me know which one is your fav or if I need to thrown any others into consideration.  xoxo

Valentino’s Rockstud Tote…love the hard edge studs, nothing short of amazing

Celine Phantom…I have been eyeing the Celine bags since last year but getting my hands on one may be more difficult than anticipated since I hear they have a wait list to rival the Birkin.

Chloe Paraty Bag…the soft tan leather and unique shape of this Chloe makes it the perfect everyday bag

Goyard…a classic and I’ll have it monogrammed and striped of course!

Balenciaga Giant 21 with Gold Hardware which comes in every color of the rainbow, but I think I’m leaning towards the bright blue (not pictured)
