It’s Fall Y’all

Okay, so I know it’s not officially fall yet, but really in my mind it is.  I’ve already had my first PSL (pumpkin spice latte) of the season, I created and styled a Halloween photoshoot last week, I’m burning a brand spanking new heirloom pumpkin candle as we speak (type), and fall arrivals have begun to make their way into The Shop.  And if that wasn’t enough this little gem of a video (above) arrived in my inbox last night.

If you follow along on Instagram you probably saw all the bts (behind the scenes) pics during a “Harvest Dinner” themed shoot I created for Occasions Magazine a few months back.  Well that baby is about to hit the stands which means I get to begin sharing everything will all of you Loves now!  So I’m calling it, declaring it right here…in my world fall is officially upon us.  (Yes I know there’s still pictures of a women frolicking in a caftan on the beach on The Shop site…I’m working on it people).  Anyway, to kick it all off I thought I’d share this behind the scenes video of the shoot.  A 10 hour shoot in the blazing sun (blazing sun…I jumped in the pool to cool off mid day) up at the gorgeous Inn of Serenbe.  Keep in mind, this is strictly behind the scenes…just a taste if you will.  Something to get you in that cooler weather state of mind.

Speaking of cooler weather…next week I’ll be talking my fall fashion must haves (perfectly timed with NYFW) and then I’ll officially be sharing all of this shoot’s stunning pics, where to buy, cocktail recipes, etc. with you on the 23rd, when the calendar actually reads fall.  In the meantime, enjoy the smooth sounds of Van Morrison and my open love letter to the season.  Happy weekend!  truly, MKR

P.S. it takes an army to pull off shoots like this…big, big hugs to Rustic White Photography, Imagine Video Production, Blue Eyed Yonder, Gertie Mae’s Florals, Anne Kathleen Cakes, Ross Sveback, Ashley Buzzy McHugh, Boxwoods, Bloomingdales, Occasions Magazine, Serenbe, Brielle Brenner, MichelleMcCoy, Clare, Richard, my dearest Mother, and the Mr.

Visiting Sonoma last October will go down as one of my favorite trips of 2015, being incredible for so many reasons.  I, of course, knew I was in for a treat right off the bat spending time with one of my all-time favorite brands, Williams-Sonoma and gathering around the table with Fortessa in my happy place, the historic Fairmont, was simply second to none.  It’s here where I relearned the magic of mealtime.

I’d been to wine country several times before, and with each visit, I felt a renewed appreciation for the time spent around the table. Life just seems slower there.  Hours spent lingering at the table long after dinner is done reminds us that there’s nowhere else we’d rather be. Farmers and friends gather around to enjoy the simple pleasures of food and wine, a feeling that you want to bottle and bring home with you.

After this visit with Williams-Sonoma and Fortessa especially, I found myself leaving inspired to recreate the magic of mealtime at home.  I wanted to put effort back into our weeknight meals…no takeout boxes, to-go cups or stacks of brown paper napkins.  For the new year I vowed to bring the focus back on time spent around the table with conversation, home-cooked meals and beautiful, yet simple details, even if it was for only one more night a week.  And dream world, yes, I’d have these gorgeous peonies at every table, duh.

A brand that totally gets those beautiful, yet simple details right is Fortessa. Restaurants, hotels, weddings and events have turned to this family-run business for its stunning dinnerware for decades, but it wasn’t a common name to many households.  But now, to my delight, Fortessa invites us to set the dinner table with its at-home collection, sold at Williams-Sonoma.  The collection is full of timeless, functional pieces that instantly elevate your dinnertime routine. I’m such a fan of its stemware and gold flatware especially; they’re easy pieces to include on any weeknight tabletop.  Tell me is making dinner a priority on your 2016 to-do list?  Truly, MKR

P.S. Enter here for a chance to win an idyllic stay at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa in Sonoma Valley with Williams-Sonoma and Fortessa, plus a wine tasting at our fave, Silver Oak! It’s basically our absolute dream vacay, so we’re crossing our fingers for you! xo

P.P.S.  Don’t worry we’ll be sharing recipes from this post very, very soon.

With the storms a brewing this past weekend all I and the entire east coast wanted to do was cuddle up at home with family, friends, food, and wine of course!  And the best way to create a warm and cozy cuddle worthy environment is with candlelight and the smell of winter.  Enter our new and OMG-best-smelling-candle-on-earth gold confetti balsam and cedar candle.  I can’t even describe the smell.  Plus it’s ridiculously fab looking all full of sparkle and holiday cheer.  A MUST have for anyone looking to get through what I’m thinking is going to be one hell of a winter.  xoxo
