A few weeks ago, my friend and photog Kathryn and I escaped the city to celebrate the launch of the Rural Art Farm Cottages at Serenbe.  The launch gave us a peek at small house living; we poked around the cottages that will serve as artists’ new digs, all constructed by architecture students at Auburn University.  We knew we were in for a treat…especially since our friends (and noted designers) Steve McKenzie & Kerry Howard created the gorgeous interiors

Being back at Serenbe also reminded me just what a little road trip can do for your soul; you feel so removed from the hustle and bustle of the city, and you’re only 45 minutes away.  But when we hopped in the car, I was in no way prepared for just how FREEZING it was that day (I swear it almost snowed)!  Skipping around to get warm in my fave platform sneakers (actually so comfortable), I was happy to at least have my camel Campaign coat and my wool fedora to keep a little heat in. And of course, being hands-free thanks to my Christmas present to myself (talk about a beautiful cross-body bag) helped too.  Now if only I had remembered some mittens!  Truly, MKR

I don’t know about where you are, but here in the A, the weather has been all over the place! I’m talking temps in the 40’s one week to temps in the 70’s the next. So you’ll understand when I say that I’ve been stretched to find outfits lately that are suitable for anything Mother Nature has in mind that day.  My solution?  Layers.

My favorite cold-weather layers and accessories pair with an easy long-sleeved dress, and they’re all pieces you’ve seen here before: my tan shearling vest (seen here), my wool hat and of course my over-the-knee boots.

Speaking of the boots, there’s really nothing better than a great pair of over-the-knee boots.  These are perhaps the best pair of boots I’ve ever bought (you’ll recognize them here).  While giving me that extra layer of warmth, the boots always add a little intrigue to my outfit, too.  They feel sexy in a perfectly understated way, with or without tights.  I love wearing mine with dresses (as you may remember with a feminine boho dress here), but the boots also look killer with a pair of skinnies and even leggings.  Truly, MKR

Around Town with The Frye Company

Sharing My Favorite Atlanta Haunts in My Fryes

When I heard The Frye Company was coming to Atlanta to open its very first store in the area, it immediately brought me back to my festival-going days with a big ole wave of nostalgia. Back to the days when I was carefree, restless and young, when I could be spotted in a pair of classic, rugged boots all over my early stomping grounds. And let me tell you, those boots would have some stories to share.  But they’ve withstood the test of time (I’ve had that pair for nearly a decade!), and have held up beautifully as all Fryes do.  All my fellow Frye owners can attest that the boots’ solid craftsmanship and classic designs (with just the right amount of edge) are some of those “Forever Items.”

With a shiny new store at Ponce City Market which is absolutely jaw dropping, comes a wonderful excuse to pick up another pair or two and that’s just what I did.  Today and tomorrow, I’m sharing scenes from a recent spin around town to a few of my favorite haunts in my new Fryes: Northside Tavern to catch the best live blues, Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall for a little brunch action, Gio’s…because how could I pass up one last gelato and much more.  All just a day in #TheFryeLife. Truly, MKR

P.S. This Saturday and Sunday I’ll be taking over the Frye Instagram, so be sure to tune in to find me at the best local spots (in my new Fryes of course). xo
