Having A Moment: Over The Knee Boots

See the boots that convinced me to try the trend

So I finally took the plunge.  I bought myself a pair of over the knee boots by Stuart Weitzman.  And goodness, I looove them.

I had my hesitations about the over the knee trend for numerous reasons; one of them being would I actually wear the boots?  The pair I had my eyes on, after all, was pricey.  And another concern: would they fit my legs?  There’s nothing worse than a boot that feels like it’s suffocating your leg, especially your calf.

But I couldn’t get the boots off my mind; I was drawn to this pair in particular with the heel lending itself to be a bit dressier than my flat, casual over the knee boots already in my closet.  Retail therapy worked again and I ordered the boots, but surprisingly went bold!  I fell in love with this show-stopping color block combo and didn’t look back.  They instantly proved to be extremely comfortable (they’re pull-on and hug my leg just right). I also like to think of them as a modern neutral…and it’s good to push your own fashion boundaries sometimes, am I right?

With these boots, any outfit seems like an afterthought, but I paired them with a burgundy leather skirt (on sale!), my go-to button up, my navy leather jacket and pair of grey tights.  And a side note: DKNY has my favorite tights, hands down.  The brand is the only brand I’ve found that nails the figure-perfecting control top.

I can’t forget to mention my new sunnies (I lost way, way too many pairs this summer) and the Gucci crossbody bag.  I was just telling Kat the other day that it’s the best investment bag that goes with seriously everything.  So happy that I took the plunge with these over the knee boots, and now I’m tempted to invest in a neutral pair!  Tell me friends, what are your thoughts on the trend?!  Truly, MKR

#OOTD: Faux Fur & Sneakers

An effortlessly cool look with major statements

I’m not going to lie; there are some outfits I wear for the Blog because they’re beautiful, or on trend, or simply because they’ll photograph perfectly.  And then there’s outfits like todays that couldn’t be more “me.”   Like if there was an outfit named MKR this would be it.  Comfortable (sneakers), classic (cashmere sweater), tomboy (cargo jacket), girly (faux fur), and just a tad trendy (clutch).  See what I mean…MKR in a nutshell!

So let’s break it all down for you in case you just started following along and don’t know my love for a good little juxtaposition of styles yet. The glam of the faux fur mixed with the utility of the military jacket, (tomboy + girly), and the mix is the perfect move as we transition into colder temps…not too hot and not too cold.

The faux fur is actually from Zara?!  Yes Zara!!??  Has anyone else scored a MAJOR piece from Zara lately?!  Last time I was in the store, I was a kid in a candy shop over their premium line.  I was quick to snatch up a boss belted blazer that I wore to Create & Cultivate here a month ago.  And of course this fun color block faux fur stole (also available in this color) and which I love because it’s actually separate entirely from my jacket, making it the most versatile and soon-to-be most worn item in my wardrobe.

Paired also with this look: my favorite, super soft ripped black jeans.  I continue to love these black jeans season after season because they’re as comfortable as ever.  Forget that stiff, cardboard texture that so many black jeans have…these I could practically sleep in.  And on top, it’s time to pull out the always classic cashmere sweaters.  This one might truly be my favorite cashmere around and hint hint;I always wait until it goes on sale (like right now) and stock up.

And for the record, I’m officially convinced that Golden Gooses are the best sneakers ever.  I know, I know, they make an expensive sneaker.  But they’re the epitome of casual-cool, and beyond comfortable.  There’s nothing worse than getting a blister from cheap sneaks!  And trust me when I say these Gooses have been road tested.  I literally had to clean the red dirt off of them after our ropes course adventure in Birmingham last week (I hope you caught it on Snapchat).

To top it all off, I turned to my amazing statement clutch by the talented Lizzie Fortunato sisters and Sally King Benedict.  Because life is too short to carry boring handbags, don’t you agree?!  Truly, MKR

Fall is FINALLY here (I know you’re probably sick of us talking about it by now, but it’s my favorite), and you know what that means…a trip to the pumpkin patch was on the top of my to-do list!  I treasure the trip every October, being on a serious mission to pick out the best of the best to spruce up our front door.  And of course the pumpkin patch gives me the perfect excuse to practice my fall #OOTD, which usually looks a lot like today’s perfectly plaid shirt layered under a cozy sweater, with a pair of great jeans, a ball cap, tote and a blanket scarf (because #duh).

Hands-down the best part about dressing for fall is the layers, am I right?  And here in Atlanta it’s not just stylish, but a necessity since it’s chilly in the mornings and evenings and warmer during the day.   Lately, my favorite keep-it-casual trick when layering is to roll my sweater up halfway, keeping the shirt underneath tight to the wrist.  It creates that extra pop to any outfit, adding interest and layers to the look while keeping it pulled together, but un-fussy.

And while we’re on the subject, let’s talk about those layers.  I immediately snatched up this plaid shirt and was so pleased to find that it was long enough (which is so important to me, again because I have a long torso).  In a medium, it was the perfect size; not too loose or too tight.  Plus the material is thin, having a natural wrinkle which looks good 100% of the time underneath a sweater or jacket (read: no wrinkles or creases which prevents those weird indents or bulges that can happen when layering).

When I look at my favorite fall layers, I always love to pull in a little pattern play.  This outfit is no exception; plaid and stripes always pair so perfectly together.  While this sweater would be beautiful dressed up with a nice pair of slacks (ivory on ivory would create an amazing monotone look), it can also mix and match with a casual plaid blouse like I did here.

But what I’m really raving about are these jeans…I was honestly a bit shocked with how good they were!  They’re mid-rise, and fit me in all of the right places especially since I recently realized that I shouldn’t be wearing low-rise jeans with my long torso.  And these jeans are the answer to all of my dressing room woes.  With enough stretch in them, they’re beyond comfortable but they also never lose their stretch on the second day. Believe me, I know the perfect jeans are hard to find, but this pair has earned a solid spot at the top of my list.

And with that, I had what I consider a perfect fall day and found my go-to fall outfit this year.  Tell me friends, what does your perfect fall day look like?  Truly, MKR

P.S. Next week we’ll be sharing a recipe for one of my favorite fall treats that pairs perfectly with a trip to the pumpkin patch (hint hint: donuts) so stay tuned! xo
