I’ve always been a fan of a great at-home bar. I strongly believe it’s a must-learn life skill to mix up classic cocktails, and as an avid host, it’s important to provide an array...

As you know if you’ve been following MKR on snapchat (username WAITINGONMARTHA), she’s in the process of updating her downstairs guest bathroom. Naturally, she wanted to rip everything out to design the idyllic bathroom…marble countertops, a new vanity, etc. etc. But since she didn’t want a complete construction zone in there, with thousands of dollars poured into the project, she decided to turn to a few easy bathroom updates that are completely doable and affordable. I found her tips especially helpful and relevant being in a rental apartment myself.
In a dream world, we’d all be able to completely design the bathroom of our dreams, but in reality, we have to make do with a few easy bathroom updates instead. Think a pretty chandelier, updated hardware, bath mats, rugs, shower curtains and more. Click through the slideshow to check out the easy bathroom updates and get inspired for your space. Cheers, Kat

Hand-towels
A beautiful set of hand towels is one of the easiest ways of updating your bathroom in a pinch. And since this item won't break the bank, it's great to update often by season to keep things looking fresh.
Changing out the hardware can elevate the overall look and feel of your bathroom if you're feeling blah about the space. We're smitten with Nest Studio for all things hardware right now, and Anthropologie is another option and long-time favorite of ours.
You spend so much time in the bathroom, so why not invest in a good piece of art for the walls? Two of our favorite sources for art are
Minted and Simply Framed, who frames your photos and artwork for you. The one thing to keep in mind: you most likely want to avoid original painted artwork on canvas since the bathroom gets steamy.
When you're going for a big statement, think about rugs and shower curtains. Both are perfectly changeable accents in the space. And even if you want to stay classic with your shower curtain, you can always change out your shower curtain hooks! Target is a great source for these.
Yesterday we invited you to join in on the fun at our end-of-summer block party with Pottery Barn. With great grub and fun activities for kids of all ages, who could ever say no to a carefree block party bash? But I know what you’re thinking: it’s hot (like really hot) and hot doesn’t always work hand-in-hand with “carefree.” As someone who’s already counting down until fall, I hear you. But good news: it IS possible to keep the menu easy and light, while simple DIYs can keep even the busiest of bodies busy so you can enjoy a refreshing drink or two. I think we can all cheers to that!
When I set up our block party, I knew I wanted to keep things comfortable, casual and laid-back. That, of course, was thanks to PB’s cozy chairs, pillows and outdoor dining set, but it was also thanks to the fuss-free food we served: my take on The Cuban and pimento cheese and tomato sandwiches (see both recipes below), homemade potato chips (because what’s a block party without chips!) and healthy-ish dips with fresh veggies and fruit. Along with all the finger food I whipped up a super refreshing Citrus Cooler mocktail (recipe below) that could easily become booze infused with a shot or two of vodka.
For dessert, I stuffed a bin full of ice and freeze pops, plus put watermelon slices onto popsicle sticks for the perfect dessert al fresco. By keeping the menu super simple, and asking everyone to pitch in, no one’s stressed to whip up an over-the-top dish.
But a block party isn’t all about the food (though it’s a big part), so I also set up a few simple DIY activities for kids of all ages to enjoy. I think the biggest mistake people make when pulling together something like this block party is overthinking the agenda and spending too much money on what you think the kids will do. The beauty of a block party, after all, is that it’s an excuse for everyone to come together and do their own thing…kids will be running around, teens will probably just want to hang out, and adults will be catching up (while trying to keep an eye on the little ones).
With all this in mind, I set up an easy DIY crafts table for the little ones with all the makings of a paint-and-plant station. We brought small terracotta pots labeled with each kids’ name (gorgeously handwritten by Jenn Gietzen) for them to paint all over, as well as organic potting soil and a few pre-potted (and hardy) herbs like mint, rosemary and thyme the kids can watch grow inside all year long. The supplies can be kept simple (all you’ll need are a few colors of acrylic paint and paint brushes) and cleanup shouldn’t be overwhelming since it’s outside. And since we had kids of all ages at the block party, I set up a table with colored beads for the teens to create DIY beaded bracelets. We separated each color family into different dishes, making it easy for everyone to fight over the prettiest beads to add to their arm stacks.
Check out the recipes for two fuss-free sandwiches and our Citrus Cooler mocktail (easily turned cocktail) below, and tell me what you’ll be serving at your end-of-summer block party! Truly, MKR

For how much we love a good bar cart, we’re also a little over the cookie-cutter, styling of this entertaining essential. Don’t get me wrong; I have one in my dining room that looks just like the rest of the photos you’ll find on Pinterest (and I love it). But since we’ve all already seen how a pretty gold bar cart can look, I thought it would be a perfect time to share a few examples of a home bar setup that DON’T involve the cart. You can fan through the slideshow of images by clicking on the image above, and there you’ll also find eight must-haves for nailing the look at home (think a console table or antique dresser, a proper tray, a bottle opener, etc.). Tell me, do you have your home bar stocked? Cheers, Kat

You most certainly do not pray to the crystals
Crystals have been used since ancient times to serve as a tool to quiet and train the mind in different ways. According to history, they have never taken the place of God.
I especially enjoyed how the ladies behind Energy Muse described the role that crystals play in a wellness practice. In this post they explain, "The mind is what controls us – until we are able to train ourselves, through methods like meditation, to no longer let it control us...Crystals are a tool to help you quiet your mind and bring you to this state of a connected center."
Different types of crystals have different energies
While all from the earth, different crystals can be applied to different areas and stresses in your life. Some basic crystals include: agate (helps ease anxiety and helps you detox), amethyst (promotes positive energy and relieves fatigue), carnelian (boosts creativity, courage and passion), citrine (helps focus and increases opportunity), fluorite (grounds you and protects you) and rose quartz (nurtures self-love and helps you connect deeper with others).
Crystals can cost anywhere from $2 to a few thousand
You don't have to break the bank to start exploring healing crystals. Loose stones can cost as low as $2 on Etsy, and some rare pieces can cost up to a few thousand dollars.
