By the time wrapping paper and bows are strewn everywhere, and opened gifts litter the living room floor on Christmas morning, it’s time for another cherished holiday tradition in the Rye household: Christmas morning brunch. You’ll remember our holiday brunch routine we shared here a few years ago; a mid-morning feast with pajamas still on, and the glorious stretch of time before that inevitable Christmas day nap.  It’s plain to see that we take this meal just as seriously, year after year, maybe even more than the gift wrapping and the ornament swapping (if that’s even possible).

After taste testing World Market’s Gingerbread Pancake Mix last Saturday, I knew I had found the star of this year’s Christmas morning brunch menu.  A stack of warm, fluffy, gingerbread pancakes would be just what we need to settle into that cozy Christmas day coma.  Oh and can we talk about how cute this maple syrup gingerbread man is?! On sale too!

Because you know I always like to add a little something to my dishes, I played around with a few additions to the pancake mix; I sprinkled chopped pecans into the batter for that beloved crunch you know I always love and grated fresh nutmeg on top for that little bit of warmth.  Doused in maple syrup these semi-homemade gingerbread pancakes are the perfect option for Christmas morning (or really any morning), because, let’s be honest, nobody wants to over-exert themselves too much in the kitchen on this joyous day!  Truly, MKR

The Best Holiday Hot Chocolate

It's Time to Get Holiday-Cozy at Home with Godiva

It’s funny how certain tastes and smells will always bring you back.  Hot chocolate is one of those for me; I’m instantly transported back to Christmastime when I was little, when I then too reveled in the first signs of the holidays, and eagerly opened the boxes on our advent calendar.

GODIVA was the holy grail of chocolate for my mom when I was growing up.  It was always considered a big treat to have the box of chocolates and hot chocolate in the house to celebrate any occasion.  And I knew when my mom heated the stove with that warm chocolatey goodness that it was almost time for Santa to come.

My mom’s love for GODIVA hasn’t changed over the years; it’s still her favorite to this day.  So naturally I thought of her recently when I had a cup of GODIVA‘s creamy and decadent hot chocolate in-store. It instantly brought me back to being little and celebrating the holidays at home, with so many warm and fuzzy memories with my mom and dad. After finishing every drop of my hot chocolate and a few gift sets later, I was on my way home with enough chocolate to last me through the new year. I invited Mom over to decorate the Christmas tree, and as we sorted through ornaments and tinsel, we shared cups of hot chocolate and reminisced about Christmases past. Tell me loves, what holiday treat brings you back?  Truly, MKR

P.S. As I was leaving the GODIVA store, I was excited to learn that they’re spreading cheer and giving back this season by teaming up with Toys for Tots to warm both hearts and hands this season. Visit GODIVA stores through Dec. 15th, and for every cup of hot chocolate purchased, $1 will go to children in need. xo

A pristine log cabin and a table set for a holiday feast.  A table adorned with giant, handmade wooden candelabras and sweeping florals with sugared fruits. Each place setting marked with hand-cut place cards laid perfectly on Juliska’s Country Estate dinnerware.  And the menu!  Braised short ribs, glazed sweet potatoes, wintry kale salad and butternut squash creme brulee with red wine cranberries from our friends at Homespun.  In our opinion, it doesn’t get any more holiday-lovely than that, and this shoot was full of the holiday table styling I like to bring out year after year.

Our magical Woodland Wonderland Dinner, specially styled for Rue Magazine’s Holiday Issue, was well-worth pulling out of The Archives to share for even more cozy holiday table styling inspiration this year.  Cheers, Kat
