Oh Homespun, you had us at homemade tart.  As big fans of anything involving buttery, flaky streusel crumbs and sweet gooey filling, we knew we’d be in for a treat with this heavenly take on Pear & Apple Crumb tart.

One of my favorite parts about this recipe is that it calls for basics you already have in your pantry, along with a few crisp Granny Smith apples and tasty Bosc pears. I’ll be the first to admit that when I see a dessert recipe with countless complicated ingredients, I bow out more often than not. But this recipe, I assure you, is worthy of pulling out again and again.

Though properly enjoyed as the perfect warm compliment to your favorite seasonal meal (like Homespun’s Braised Honey Pork Shoulder), it’s tempting to sneak into the kitchen to warm up a slice of this wonderful pear & apple tart in the morning, too…I know I’m guilty of doing it!  Cheers, Kat

Poached Pear and Butternut Squash Salad with Lavender Honey Roasted Walnuts

A Seasonal Salad with Warm, Hearty Flavors from Homespun

With our favorite season, comes a craving for warm, rustic flavors. We knew we could turn to our friends at Homespun to serve up fantastic fare to treat our tastebuds and celebrate this season’s greatest flavors. (Do you remember last year’s glazed sweet potatoes and wintry kale salad?!)

For quintessential fall, roasted butternut squash always comes to mind for me.  It has that hearty, multi-dimensional effect when added to fresh greens. And while this fall salad serves as a wonderful compliment to other dishes, it can truly hold its own at the table too. It becomes a full-bodied dish as marinated butternut squash and tender, gently simmered poached pear sit atop fresh arugula, frisee and watercress.  And to finish: a sprinkle of lavender honey roasted walnuts, apricots and cranberries.  We promise the few extra steps the poaching and roasting this salad requires will be totally worth every bite.  Cheers, Kat

Spiced Apple And Pear Crisp

Apple and Pear Crisp gets a healthy makeover with a good dose of spice and Nourish Snacks for a topping

Spiced Apple and Pear Crisp recipe, Waiting on MarthaA Healthy Apple Crisp with Hearty Pear and Nourish Snacks for the Crunch! | Waiting on Martha

As the temps begin to drop, and Fall quickly approaches, I remember just how much I look forward to and cherish this time of year.  The crisp Fall air, cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice everything…the warmth of this season is hard for anyone to ignore.  And along with all of the warmth are flavors that truly embody Fall for me, and topping that list of course, is apple. Growing up, my mom made the best homemade apple crisp, and it only seems appropriate that I welcome my favorite season with a take on my favorite childhood treat.

While mom’s classic apple crisp never included pear, it’s always nice to switch things up and offer a different take on a classic.  Enter pear.  I’ve always loved pear’s hearty and dense texture and combined with my beloved apples and seven different spices, including cayenne and fresh vanilla bean, this crisp truly brings all the warmth that fall encompasses.  And I mean, how precious is an apple crisp in an apple dish?!?!

Now I did mention this recipe is a healthy spiced pear and apple crisp.  Instead of your typical flour-based and sugary topping I utilized the crunch of Nourish Snacks without the calories of a typical crisp.  You may remember I’ve subbed out ingredients for Nourish’s gluten-free, non GMO, snacks before (our Super Simple Cocoa & Fruit Parfaits are a must-try!), and for this particular recipe the combination of Nourish’s Apple Cinn-sational and Berry’d Treasure completely compliment the crisp and provide that crunch I crave.  And let us not forget, by taking the healthy topping route it allows us to splurge on the vanilla bean ice cream that every crisp really deserves.  So tell me, how will you be welcoming Fall this year?  Truly, MKR
