The Boozy Bourbon Apple Cider Slushie

A Frozen Spin on a Seasonal Staple

Boozy Apple Cider Slushie recipe via @waitingonmarthablog-cocktail-applebourbonboozycider

It’s safe to say that we just had the summer of the rosé slushie.   The refreshing—and quite genius—libation basically proved that everything tasted better in frozen form.  And lucky for us, there’s no reason to wait until next summer to enjoy another.  This boozy bourbon apple cider slushie makes a case for a frozen sip that’s perfect for fall.

I first saw this recipe by Chef Kelly Fields, and I knew I wanted to put my own spin on this fun way to enjoy one of my favorite seasonal flavors.  See, with my love for fall, comes my love for cider.  And when it comes to cider, I like it hot, I like it cold and I like it boozy.  To my delight, this bourbon apple cider slushie goes down easy while it’s still a tad hot here in the A, all while getting me all too excited for sweater season.

Whenever I make apple cider (hot or cold), I always make it from Williams Sonoma’s five apple cider concentrate for the most intense, and best flavor.  I’ve been drinking it for years and I promise it’s so worth the splurge .  For the slushie itself it’s pretty simple after that; freeze your apple cider concerntrate with apple juice (50/50) in large ice cube trays for at least 8-10 hours.  Once frozen, toss your cider ice cubes into a blender, add your favorite bourbon and blend for that slushie consistency.  Pour the slushies into mason jars to serve, and enjoy!  That’s it!  I mean how easy is that?  So tell me, will you be happening on the cider slushie train?  Truly, MKR

Apple Pie Moonshine Cocktail

Whip up a shine inspired cocktail that tastes just like fall in a glass

Okay, so you typically won’t find me drinking moonshine on any old day.  But when this time of year rolls around, and it’s an apple pie moonshine cocktail, well…that’s something I can get behind.  Being on the brink of fall, I’m adding apples to just about everything I’m eating and drinking which includes this drink!  This cocktail is incredibly simple to mix together, and would make for a great batch drink or punch at your tailgate, bonfire, or Halloween party.  And don’t be afraid of the whole “moonshine” aspect, I promise it’s not as potent as the tales will have you believe.

For my apple pie moonshine coctkail, you’ll want to find apple pie moonshine if you can, but if you can’t, don’t worry.  Simply add apple cider (this is my favorite) into your regular moonshine for a sip that’s still as seasonal as it gets.  Pour your shine and cider over ice (I love these giant ice cubes), add a squeeze of fresh lemon, and garnish with crisp granny smith apples and whole cinnamon sticks.  Mix, settle in and get cozy!  Truly, MKR

The Blackberry Bourbon Smash

A Mouth-Watering Nod to Sweet Summer Blackberries
Filed Under > Cocktail Hour

Blackberry bourbon cocktail recipe, @waitingonmarthaBlackberry Bourbon Smash recipe, @waitingonmartha
Okay, so I admit it I originally wanted to make a Blackberry Bourbon Smash because of how beautiful it is.  While I do enjoy a sip of Bourbon every now and then, I would never call myself an actual bourbon lover.  But once I smashed and swirled up a BBS or Blackberry Bourbon Smash, I was surprised at how much  I loved it, plus it didn’t hurt that it was really fun to make.  And bonus a Blackberry Bourbon Smash is definitely one of those cocktails that appears more impressive and difficult to whip up than it actually is, which makes it perfect when entertaining guests.

While the recipe in itself is on the simpler side there are a few things to note.  First, the key to a great Blackberry Bourbon Smash is definitely the ice.  You want that perfectly shaved ice that makes you almost feel like you’re eating a snow cone. So where do you find this ice, you ask?  I’ll let you in on a secret: if you have a local Whole Foods, the seafood department will give it to you for free.  Just be sure to ask for the ice that’s NOT touching the fish!

Another important part to this smash is the fresh, high quality blackberries.  They’re really the hero to this cocktail story, so it’s worth using high quality, organic blackberries at the height of the season. Once you snag your black berries the rest is pertty simple: muddle the blackberries with fresh mint, pour the mixture into your glass, top it with shaved ice, add bourbon, stir, garnish, and enjoy.  One quick note; if you are a regular bourbon drinker, you’ll probably opt for no simple syrup, but if you need a little something sweet to combat the bourbon, just dd simple syrup to taste.  Though I’d suggest waiting until after you stir together your blackberry mixture, bourbon and ice to see if you need the simple syrup…I actually enjoyed the drink without.  Cheers, friends!  Truly, MKR
