Visiting Sonoma last October will go down as one of my favorite trips of 2015, being incredible for so many reasons.  I, of course, knew I was in for a treat right off the bat spending time with one of my all-time favorite brands, Williams-Sonoma and gathering around the table with Fortessa in my happy place, the historic Fairmont, was simply second to none.  It’s here where I relearned the magic of mealtime.

I’d been to wine country several times before, and with each visit, I felt a renewed appreciation for the time spent around the table. Life just seems slower there.  Hours spent lingering at the table long after dinner is done reminds us that there’s nowhere else we’d rather be. Farmers and friends gather around to enjoy the simple pleasures of food and wine, a feeling that you want to bottle and bring home with you.

After this visit with Williams-Sonoma and Fortessa especially, I found myself leaving inspired to recreate the magic of mealtime at home.  I wanted to put effort back into our weeknight meals…no takeout boxes, to-go cups or stacks of brown paper napkins.  For the new year I vowed to bring the focus back on time spent around the table with conversation, home-cooked meals and beautiful, yet simple details, even if it was for only one more night a week.  And dream world, yes, I’d have these gorgeous peonies at every table, duh.

A brand that totally gets those beautiful, yet simple details right is Fortessa. Restaurants, hotels, weddings and events have turned to this family-run business for its stunning dinnerware for decades, but it wasn’t a common name to many households.  But now, to my delight, Fortessa invites us to set the dinner table with its at-home collection, sold at Williams-Sonoma.  The collection is full of timeless, functional pieces that instantly elevate your dinnertime routine. I’m such a fan of its stemware and gold flatware especially; they’re easy pieces to include on any weeknight tabletop.  Tell me is making dinner a priority on your 2016 to-do list?  Truly, MKR

P.S. Enter here for a chance to win an idyllic stay at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa in Sonoma Valley with Williams-Sonoma and Fortessa, plus a wine tasting at our fave, Silver Oak! It’s basically our absolute dream vacay, so we’re crossing our fingers for you! xo

P.P.S.  Don’t worry we’ll be sharing recipes from this post very, very soon.

As you know, we take our tablescapes pretty seriously here at WOM, but like everyone, we can also get stuck in a rut styling said tables.  Sure, we all play favorite with different types of dinnerware, flatware and the such over the years, but it can all start to becoming a bit boring and maybe even too expected holiday after holiday.  So in order to spice things up, I’ve recently turned to napkins to bring a little flavor to the mix. A little fold here, a little fold there, and your place setting now has that elevated feel you’d find at your favorite restaurant.

Since a nicely-folded napkin can set even the simplest of tables apart when entertaining, especially for a special occasion, I knew I wanted to tackle an easy napkin tutorial with our friends at World Market just in time for the holidays.  As you saw here on the blog last month, I find myself turning to World Market time and time again for all of those unique, yet totally affordable, details when I’m entertaining. This way I’m more inclined to mix and match to keep the table fresh and fun.

Mastering a few new ways to fold a napkin isn’t as hard as you’d think.  In the gallery below you’ll find super easy step-by-step instructions for five different napkin folds that you can print out and file away for all your holiday entertaining needs. (Don’t worry I still need a cheat sheet sometimes too!)  Truly, MKR

Happy Halloween! If you’re anything like me, you’ve procrastinated a bit this year (the holiday falls on a Saturday after all) and may need a little last-minute inspiration to pull together a festive spread.

Earlier this week, we rounded up several must-try ideas for your haunting party this weekend—a great place to start.  But really can we just talk about the beyond-wickedly chic Halloween party that MKR styled a few years ago?!  Definitely worth pulling out of the archives to share again in time for a little last-minute party inspiration.

It is indeed possible to put a chic, stylish spin on this holiday, and MKR shows us how it’s done.  A blend of silvers and greys mix in with black accents to create a color palette that is as beautiful as it is spooky.  Candles upon candles upon candles, moss and fun little accessories complete the design, though the grub and libations take the cake in my opinion.  Her recipe for the perfect candy apples and warm bourbon punch may just be everything you need to impress your guests tonight. Leave all of that kitschy orange-and-black everything behind!  Cheers, Kat
