Both MKR and I both have a strong love for a classic Thanksgiving…a traditional table with rich harvest details and of course, hearty flavors.  When MKR designed this picturesque Southern Thanksgiving spread a few years ago, she embraced that feel as combined rich browns and oranges with an unexpected twist of coral and sage greens. Patterned linens and statement dinnerware masterfully combined to create a table that was anything but generic and one worthy of pulling out of The Archives to share again.

Our Buttermilk Brined Smoked Turkey (on the Big Green Egg of course) is clearly the star of the menu, though it’s accompanied by some pretty stellar sides: Butternut Squash Soup, Green Bean Casserole, Chestnut Focaccia Stuffing and Sweet Potato Au Gratin.

Want more Turkey Day inspo? We’re sharing everything from this Southern Thanksgiving as well as styling tips, a fool-proof entertaining timeline, menu printables and more in our clickable Field Guide to the Season!  Cheers, Kat

It’s hard to put into words just how remarkable this Thanksgiving tablescape is.  Shot at the dreamlike Serenbe Inn a few years ago, it is abundant with tabletop inspiration for a Thanksgiving gathering, and every detail is truly timeless. The shoot actually took place on a scorching day in July, and anyone that knows heat in the South can appreciate just what that meant for the shoot (melting cakes, anyone?). But miraculously everything turned out even better than we could have imagined, and we find ourselves coming back to this shoot time and time again.

As you search for inspiration for your own Thanksgiving tablescape, consider deep, rich colors and lush textures.  (One Kings Lane sells a great variety of fresh and dried garland if you want to tap for a guaranteed show-stopper.) Varied candle heights can give visual interest to the table without restricting views and ultimately, conversation, and stacked plates always elevate the place settings, as I’ve learned.  Lastly, thoughtful touches like personalized place cards and “I’m Thankful For” cards encourage guests to talk to one another and open up to reflect during this holiday time.

Take a peek at all of the photos from the entire shoot, shared here, here and here. Cheers, Kat

Happy Halloween! If you’re anything like me, you’ve procrastinated a bit this year (the holiday falls on a Saturday after all) and may need a little last-minute inspiration to pull together a festive spread.

Earlier this week, we rounded up several must-try ideas for your haunting party this weekend—a great place to start.  But really can we just talk about the beyond-wickedly chic Halloween party that MKR styled a few years ago?!  Definitely worth pulling out of the archives to share again in time for a little last-minute party inspiration.

It is indeed possible to put a chic, stylish spin on this holiday, and MKR shows us how it’s done.  A blend of silvers and greys mix in with black accents to create a color palette that is as beautiful as it is spooky.  Candles upon candles upon candles, moss and fun little accessories complete the design, though the grub and libations take the cake in my opinion.  Her recipe for the perfect candy apples and warm bourbon punch may just be everything you need to impress your guests tonight. Leave all of that kitschy orange-and-black everything behind!  Cheers, Kat
