Breathing Room

Recently the Mr. and I were able to sneak away for a couple of days and spend some time up North at one of our absolute favorite places, Lake Geneva Wisconsin.  Living in Chicago, this was always our escape.  A place we would head a few times a year to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.  You see, it reminds me of home.  Growing up in a small town in Northern Michigan I spent the majority of my time on a lake and in the woods…so this, a few days up North, it just feeds my soul.  And while most people love the lake in the summer, I actually prefer it in the fall.  Not only is it breathtaking gorgeous with all of the trees turning, but right before fall turns to winter and there’s a chill in the air everything seems to go quiet.  There’s an actual silence you can feel.  And I revel in it.  So this my Loves, is an unusual glimpse into my non-Martha life.  There’s no fancy clothes, and staged photos (well maybe a few posed shots), just the natural beauty that exists.  So, where do you go when you’re in need of a little breathing room?  truly, MKR

  • I have to agree that there isn’t anything like being close to the water. We go for hikes as a family in the woods behind our house. There is a trail just wide enough for us to walk on and though it’s literally just steps from suburbia, when you’re in the forest, you feel like you’re in totally different place and you’re mind is at ease. I’m pretty thankful for it. Have a lovely weekend!

  • I grew up spending summers in Leland, MI. My most favorite place on earth. No frills, just eating at little food shacks (literally) in Fishtown, picnics by the lake, and midnight walks to the Blue Bird Tavern for hot chocolate (my dad lovingly obliged to the midnight runs for hot chocolate, buuut pretty sure his was spiked 😉 Escaping to these little pieces of heaven is the best! xx

  • gorgeous! I think it’s so important to get away. I know I always come back creatively charged, rested and with a fresh perspective on life. and now i’m reminded that I needed to take a quick trip like this 🙂 we might have to check this out since we’re in chicago!

  • Lake Geneva is one of my most favorite places in the entire world!! My aunt & uncle lived there when I was growing up & that was our fun summer family vacation every year. Gorgeous pictures! 🙂

  • There really isn’t anything as good as being close to the water! xo

  • Oh my goodness I’ve been to Leland like a 100 times! Summers in Michigan are truly the best! xo

  • It is so important to rest and recharge the battery. And yes you MUST go to Lake Geneva! xo

  • Mine too! I just so love it! xo

  • These photos….so beautiful!
I still crave the turn of the seasons of the midwest in the fall. My OH heart won’t let it go:)
That is not saying I would ever move back to the winters there though….;)
