Ohhh the hunt.  You either love it, or hate it.  Truthfully up until a few years ago I hated the hunt.  All the waiting, the searching, the haggling for just the right piece that will fit perfectly in just that one right little space.  But over the past few years I’ve begun to love the hunt.  For me searching for something vintage or antique provides the perfect unexpected mix in my home, or my client’s home.  And while I’m no expert at finding all things antique I am getting better, and when all else fails I just trust my gut.  If it works for you, then it works.  So I thought I’d share my favorite online, and not so online, antique haunts and you tell me do you love the hunt?  Truly, MKR

My Top Ten…One Kings Lane  OKL is my go to for everything things home, new and old, but their vintage selection is always well curated and well priced.  ||  1st Dibs  1st Dibs is the Rolls Royace of antiques.  Designers and curators alike spill all their secret sources to 1st Dibs.  If you can’t find what you’re looking for here, you likely won’t find it.  ||  Chairish  A mix between OKL and Craigs List Chairish allows designers and tastemakers to list their own pieces (both new and old) to sell and even allows you to haggle on price.  ||  Etsy  While it’s harder to verify if something is actually vintage or authentic on Etsy, it’s still worth the look.  ||  Bobo Intriguing Objects  This is an Atlanta gem, and one I’ve been shopping at for the past for years.  Unfortunately it’s only open to designers and retailers, so grab your designer friends and make an appointment.  Though market is always the best time to shop as inventory is highest.  ||  Scott Antique Market  An Atlanta and Ohio MUST, Scott’s rolls into town one weekend each month and trust me, it will take the entire weekend to get through everything.  Get there on Thursday for the best finds.  ||  Deconet  For the 20th century modern furniture lovers, this is your global marketplace.  ||  Furnishly  Furnishly’s team curates sales from all over the marketplace to allow much less searching.  ||  Lushpad  The best site for all things modern.  ||  Live Auctioneers  another online bidding site, similar to e-Bay, though this one has a fantastic app so you never have to miss out on your find.

Grand Plans…

Today I had big plans, grand plans actually to roll out a couple final gift guides (because I know everyone is still shopping), but then I forgot that I own 3 little shops (Boutique, Etsy, Etsy) of my own and am drowning in packaging and shipping out all of your pretty gifts.  So tomorrow I’ll be back with a great holiday gift guide, but today I’m busy being one of Santa’s many helpers.  Happy Monday Loves!  xoxo

Bedroom vignette with affordable art from Etsy | waitingonmartha.comI’ve started to develop a love affair with art.  With a Gray Malin piece and my first piece of original abstract art to my name, my interest in an art collection has only grown. But with my enthusiasm to purchase new art, I’ve also come to realize that an art collection can quickly become expensive (maybe an understatement) and the whole process can be a bit intimidating.

So many stunning interiors make a case for great art, and my favorite part is that many show us how easily you can balance the high-and-low when it comes to original pieces and prints.  Thanks to my favorite bloggers and of course Pinterest, I’ve discovered new artists near and far, and many on affordable sites like Minted and Etsy.  A great source of art inspiration for me personally is Chassity Evans.  She’s the voice behind the popular lifestyle blog Look Linger Love (and one of my favorite daily reads). I knew Chassity would be a great person to tap for a little insight on what to consider when starting your own art collection in the home.  Catch her easy tips below, and tell me your favorite sources for great art!  Cheers, Kat

1. Collect what you love. I’ve always been drawn to drawings of the female body and my collection shows it.

2. Get your kids interested in art! Last summer I was looking for a large piece for my son Fletcher’s bedroom. I narrowed down a few favorite pieces and then let him choose the one he liked best. He feels pride in this piece now and knows that his opinion matters.

3. Think outside the box (or canvas) for your collection. I own a scarf by my friend and artist Raven Roxanne. It’s a print of one of her nude ladies paintings. Great to wear now and frame later.

4. Find a framer you love and trust and aim for a diverse collection of frames for a “collected over time” look. My favorite source is Framebridge.

5. Check Etsy for art finds! I have found a lot of pieces there like this one at reasonable prices.
