Late last year I was asked by one of my favorite designers, Julianne Taylor, to participate in a little “X Bench Style It Challenge.”  The rules were simple; 5 bloggers/designers would customize her most popular TBH X Bench and style it in any room, and in any way they see fit.  The customized X Benches and room reveals would then go up on One Kings Lane’s site for two weeks where individuals would be able to see how each blogger/designer styled the bench in their home and could buy one (or two or three) of the benches for themselves.  And at the end of the two weeks a winner would be crowned and awarded a Room Refresh courtesy of TBH and OKL.  So now that you know the rules, let me tell you a little bit more about my X Benches.

When it came to designing my benches I’m not one to really play it safe so I knew I wanted to do something a bit more on the bold side.  I had been eyeing Cotton & Quill’s foo dog fabric for some time now, and if you’ve ever seen a peek into my home you’d know I have a thing for foo dogs and anything blue.  While it may seem like a somewhat wilder choice in fabrics, don’t let a print ever scare you.  Mixing prints and patterns is one of my absolute favorite ways to decorate.  When done right it adds interest and a personal touch to any room, and if you’re scared of mixing it up just follow my golden rule; mix within the same color family.  And just remember these benches will be a staple in your home for years to come but that doesn’t mean you have to live with your fabric choice forever.  You can always have them re-upholstered and let them evolve with you and your decorating choices.

Another reason I adore benches in general is because of how versatile they are.  A good bench can be used as an extra seat, a foot rest, or an end table and these benches in particular are the absolute perfect size.  Not too big, not too small.  In fact I’ve moved them into several different spaces within my home and while you see them styled here in my living room I think they may end up actually living in the entry way.  How perfect would they be for a seat to throw on your heels before going out or to drop your bag and everything else you need on a daily basis?  Who knows though, that’s why I love decorating, it’s always changing.

So tell me, are you feeling our bold benches?  Happy Friday Loves!  Truly, MKR

Pomegranate Market Tote + Bridgette Shawl Giveaway

This past January when buying for the Shop I fell in complete love with a line out of Lexington Kentucky, Pomegranate Inc.  I had heard of Pomegranate before, specifically their amazing placemats and table linens, but what was really killing me was their new summer designs.  From the vivid and colorful prints in all things table to the addition of tunics, totes, kaftans and pom pom embellished scarves Angie Beck truly tapped in to her love of Harbour Island and all things colorful

Almost my entire summer MUST list can be found at Pomegranate.  Literally no joke, my entire list.  Well not including wine or margaritas, but pretty much everything else.  You’ll find these and these on my summer table.  I’ll be sitting on this and toting all of my picnic necessities perfect for Piedmont Park in the this (also pictured above)..  Wearing this at brunch and on our boat (pictured above…I mean it’s a scarf, parero, plus you could even use it as a tablecloth)!  And if you follow me on Instagram you’ve already seen me in Pomegranate’s long and short kaftan.  See…pretty much my entire list.

So Loves, because everyone needs a little Pomegranate in their life we’re giving away the gorgeous Bridgette shawl and raffia market tote pictured above ($151 value) to one lucky winner.  The giveaway is open to US and Canadian residents only and will run through Sunday night with a winner announced Monday morning.  We’ll be running this all through Rafflecopter (below) which allows you to earn points for each item completed with a simple click of the button…the more points you earn the more likely you are to be the winner (and remember you probably already have entry points if you’re a regular reader of the blog).

Happy Monday, and good luck! xo

P.S. Because I know that you’re going to fall madly, deeply in love (if you haven’t already) with all things Pomegranate we’re also offering our readers 20% off their entire Pomegranate purchase now through May 26th with code MARTHA.

Easter Takes The Cake

Easter dessertsEaster dessertsEaster dessertsEaster dessertsEaster dessertsEaster dessertsEaster dessertsEaster dessertsEaster dessertsEaster dessertsEaster dessertsEaster desserts

Its a rare, rare occasion where you’ll see me create a dessert table.  And it’s not because I don’t love desserts, I do…I could live off buttercream icing.  It’s simply because in the business I’m in I see dessert tables all of the time.  However, Easter is an occasion where it’s all about sugary confections (well sugar and Jesus of course) so bring on the Easter desserts.

This year I called on a few of my favorites to help fill the table.  Eileen Carter Creations created three different, and equally glorious cakes…a speckled egg buttercream with a chocolate and Baileys center, a naked carrot cake, and a classic white sprinkle cake.  I whisked up a batch of pistachio pudding (recipe coming soon).  And to adorn my cherry blossoms Easter egg cookies from Whipped Bakeshop because there should always be an edible egg tree.  Together, it was simply perfect…and delicious.

So tell me Loves, what desserts will be gracing your table this weekend?  truly, MKR
