We Listened: Our Reader Survey Results Are In

Thank You for Being an Instrumental Part of Growing WaitingonMartha.com

Waiting on Martha blogger office

I can’t reiterate enough how helpful and insightful our reader survey results have been.  From usability to editorial content to how you’re reaching us and beyond, the brief-ish survey covered a dozen topics important to WOM as we challenge ourselves to give you the best of the best, every day. And the findings have already been instrumental to shaping what’s in store for the blog.  While some feedback reinforced what we expected, other feedback opened our eyes to new, valid points a few I’d love to chat about for a moment.

In terms of usability, we’re planning to increase font size, darken coloring and improve overall navigation through tagging, search, and a few key website updates.  We’ll be focusing on ways to make it even easier to “get the look” with easy, obtainable links of products (that are still in stock!).  And we get it—you hate the slideshows—so rest assured we’ll be unveiling an even better way to showcase that material to you soon. We’re knee-deep in a good mobile-friendly overhaul for all of our mobile and tablet readers out there as well.

I could fall down a rabbit hole addressing each and every takeaway, (in fact we’ll be writing a few new posts inspired by your thoughts), but one takeaway I want to make sure I mention is around commenting.  I was so sad to learn that most of you don’t like to comment on blogs (ours or others) because you don’t feel you’re being heard or your opinions don’t matter.  While I can’t speak for others, I assure you that is not case here.  Kat and I read each and every comment, and we’re quick to pass around a feel-good moment and discuss those not so feel good moments to the entire team. Your thoughts, constructive criticism and opinions are always welcome here and truly means the world to us.  It’s that support and feedback that helps us keep hustling.

I want to thank you all again for taking the time to share your two cents with us.  The blog has grown and evolved in four years, and I personally can’t wait to see it continue to grow.  Truly, MKR

P.S. If you didn’t get the chance to complete the reader survey, you can do so here.  xo

A few weeks ago Home Depot asked me to participate in their style challenge, “outdoor games.”  I had to create an outdoor game that celebrated summer and got people outdoors with friends and family.  You know a little less texting and social media scrolling, a little more put-the-phone-down-fun.  While I was all “yes  #letsdothis” the only problem was we live in the city which means we have a teeny-tiny backyard and most or our time spent outdoors is at one of the beautiful parks that grace our city streets.  So the answer?  Create an easily portable game, grab some friends, and plan a little picnic in the park.

I love to picnic.  And the recipe for a good picnic can really be boiled down to five essentials: a great blanket, the perfect basket, simple portable food that can withstand the heat, entertainment such as ladder toss, boccee, backgamon, etc., and portable tunes.  Mix with your nearest and dearest friends and you have a day that summers are made for.  Check out all of my picnicking essentials below and cruise on over to Home Depot’s blog for my step by step instructions to build your very own ladder toss.  TGIF Loves!  truly, MKR

Serenbe Harvest…Part II

When plotting the shoot I had my heart set on a vintage truck.  I just had to have one.  So what do I do when I need something seemingly out of reach?  I go to the Mr.  The Mr. loves a good challenge and more importantly he loves chatting people up.  One Sunday a few weeks before the shoot, timing just happened to be on our side as well as an antique car show in town.  And at that antique car show, shining like a beacon of light, an old Chevy in my absolute favorite color orange sat owned by the sweetest couple who re-finished it with complete detailed perfection.  I don’t know how the Mr. always works his magic, he just always does.  So with the truck under our belt, we of course needed the cakes.

I love cakes.  I love their beauty, their grandness, and most importantly their deliciousness.  And for fall I knew that I wanted a naked cake (uncovered in icing), and preferably something spcie’esque with buttercream of course.  It always has to be buttercream.  I worked with the talented Anne Kathleen and as we talked we determined one is really never enough, more is more, so three of course would work.  Three perfect cakes…all different in look, feel, and taste, but all still all perfectly fit together.  Remember we were in the blazing sun, so the red cake began to melt, but I actually think it made it look even more perfect.  And the naked cake, well let’s just say that didn’t go to waste…cake for breakfast is a thing you know.  Happy Wednesday Loves!  truly, MKR

P.S. Don’t forget we’re giving away a Zac Zac Posen bag (up to a $450 retail value)…enter HERE.
