I once joked about having the urge to decorate and redecorate my home a dozen times.  Well friends, I’ve got the itch again…and my living room is next up.  My recent desire to revamp all started with a fabric swatch (like it so often does), and a beautiful shade of paint, and the rest is history for my living room mood board.

That fabric swatch that got the ball rolling will be used to recover our sectional sofa.  Its bold, yet completely neutral print masterfully pulls in taupes, tans, beige, browns, and of course my signature blue.  I already can see the pattern play with throw pillows galore!  My heart literally skips a beat just thinking about it.

With so many neutrals, though, I knew I wanted to bring in a pop of color rather than stick to anything too deep like a charcoal or brown. The second I saw Farrow & Ball‘s Inchyra Blue (No. 289) I knew it was a match made in heaven.  The perfect shade of blue to balance and bring together the room. I’ve never shied away from bold, moody colors (check out my master bedroom here and here), which made Inchyra Blue right up my alley.  It’s a moody, aged blue-grey that truly takes on a chameleon quality dependent on the light. It can read as a grey, blue or even green, and there’s something incredibly soothing, yet sophisticated, about the shade.  As I curated my living room mood board, I envisioned the color to be complimented by similarly aged, rich tones and a collection of found accents like my vintage calligraphy brushes along with a few new objets that always inspire.

It’s undeniable the power that a shade of paint has in a room’s design, and I so look forward to seeing it transform my living room. I’ve swooned over Farrow & Ball‘s shades before (I still have a soft spot for their limited edition Chappell Green which is why it was my color for our limited edition Oomph collaboration), and I’ve come to expect the highest of quality with their paint line. And because I feel like everyone can use a little transformation from time to time I’ve teamed up with our friends at Farrow & Ball to help you transform a room of your choice right along with me!  Because isn’t everything better when done with a friend!?  Farrow & Ball will be providing one lucky winner the paint of their choice, to change up the room of their choice.  Contest details are below, but I’d love to know if you won, what room would you re-do and what color would you choose?  Truly, MKR

P.S.  I’ll be sharing my mood board all over Pinterest, Instagram and our other social channels and would love for you to join in on the fun by sharing your own room-makeover mood board!  Simply tag @waitingonmartha and @farrowandball plus hashtag #myfavouritenewcolour and we’ll make share to check it out and even re-share some of our favorites!

How To: Laundry Room Organization

The final organizational challenge to tackle was the laundry room.  My laundry room is tiny.  Truly, you can’t even turn around in it tiny.  So keeping it organized and clutter free while maximizing what little space I have was of the utmost importance.

First, I traded out my two old hampers for Pottery Barn’s Perry Divided hamper.  It fit perfectly in the space and allows me to presort darks and colors.  Plus the canvas liner can be removed and thrown in with the wash for easy cleaning.

Second, baskets came to the rescue again.  I placed the larger wire Benchwright baskets above my cabinets to hold my Costco-sized amount of paper towels and blankets that are out of season.  While the Newport basket housed detergents, iron, steamer, dryer balls and all other necessities.

Lastly, I hung my vacuum on the wall (best vacumn ever by the way), added a few extra door hooks and a retractable clothes line to hang any pieces of clothing I many not want to dry.  In the end the laundry room became clutter free and a functional small space.  Truly, MKR

P.S.  Make sure to check out how I organized the linen closet and gave the master bath a mini makeover.

Laundry room organization tips

In the dream world, we’d all have huge laundry rooms filled with endless cabinets and impeccable organization systems in place.  But the truth is, many of us have tiny spaces for some of the most important household chores.  Last year, MKR teamed up with Pottery Barn to tackle laundry room organization, eliminating clutter and maximizing her space as much as possible. As she showed us, laundry room organization wasn’t so hard.

First, she traded in her old hampers for a conveniently divided woven hamper.  It amazed MKR how much the presorting helped keep the room organized, load after load of darks and lights.

Second, she relied on both wire baskets and woven baskets (both currently marked down!) to hold her Costco-sized household products and all of her other cleaning necessities.

Head on over to the original post to read more easy laundry room organization tricks. As you’ll learn, it’s really as simple as adding a few key pieces to keep the space tidy, functional and clutter-free.  Cheers, Kat
