Over the past few months, I’ve really been trying (trying being the operative word) to have less screen time in the morning. You see I have fallen hard into the rabbit hole of checking emails, texts, Instagram, my bank account—basically every app on my phone, if we’re being honest here—all before I had left the bed and started my day.  And doing so does not make for a great day.  You see, it effected my entire day.  I felt rushed, stressed, behind-the-eight-ball on life pretty much, because I was simply reacting to the hustle and bustle.  And I knew if I didn’t put a stop to it soon I wouldn’t be able to differentiate my morning, from my afternoon, from my night.

So when Truvia Sweetener reached out and asked how I felt about sharing their “life with less” campaign, I took it as a sign and jumped on board.  I mean life with less screen time; I think that’s something we can all get behind, no?  Just imagine: mornings without my phone.  Mornings without emails.  Morning without feeling that surge of panic and anxiety rush through my veins.  And instead, mornings with my favorite magazines.  Mornings with a cup of fresh coffee and breakfast where I actually sat down.  Mornings that wrapped me in comforts—no matter how small they might be—to help me face my day with a renewed energy and sense of purpose.

And with that gentle nudge from my friends at Truvia, I’ve returned to a simpler morning routine, which of course, includes a recipe for my favorite, no-fuss homemade cranberry scones.  Baked with simple, classic ingredients, these homemade cranberry scones are perfect because I can make them ahead, and have enough to enjoy for the week.  Plus it helps that Truvia Natural Sweetener is zero-calorie and stevia-based which allows me to reduce sugar in any of my baking recipes… which means I can eat twice as many!  Truly, MKR

…spent my Saturday at Calypso St. Barth with my gal pal Paris and Covenant House giving back to the community and shopping for a great cause.  I may have picked up THIS & THIS while I was there…(there’s a reason I don’t work in retail, I wouldn’t make any money!).  And don’t forget today is the last day to bring in a gently used sweater to any of your local Calyspo St. Barths and receive 20% off any new sweater.

…adored this New York Times article about Instagram.  “If Twitter is the street, Facebook the suburban-sprawl mall, and Pinterest some kind of mail-order catalog, Instagram is the many-windowed splendor of a younger Bergdorf’s, showing all we possess or wish for, under squares of filtered glass, each photographic pane backlit 24/7. ”

…oooooooh’d and ahhhhhhh’d over these DIY advent calendars.  The mini trees??!  I mean adorable!

…teamed up with Bloomingdaels and my absolute fave, Juliska for a Holiday entertaining event.  The red country estate, I mean I really can’t handle how amazing it is.  I paired it with their pewter and a red plaid table runner and jute accents for a more modern take.  P.S. today is the last day to take 20% off everything, code FF13.

If you read THIS then you know I’m really focusing on reigning in my current binge like habits for a walk on the healthier side of things.  And one of those habits that I’m focused on is snacking smartly.  For me when it comes to snacking I fall into two very classic scenarios.  When working from my home studio  I become a food grazer (food grazer being one who eats a little bit here and there all day).  It’s said being a grazer is actually the healthiest was to live, that is when you’re grazing on anything other than ice cream, cupcakes, or whatever sugary or salty recipe I’m creating that day.  On the flip side when I’m out on set styling a shoot, traveling, or anything that takes me away from my studio I tend not to eat all day so when 6:00 o’clock rolls around I’m so hangry (hungry + angry) I show no restraint at dinner which usually means pizza and wine.  Both scenarios I’m sure relatable to most all of you out there, and both scenarios I’ve found can be answered with a simple plan to snack smartly.  Enter Nourish Snacks.  My new go-to for healthy snacks.

Joy Bauer, Nutrition Expert on the Today Show dreamed up Nourish Snacks to “create a convenient way to enjoy delicious, good-for-you snacks every day.”  And by good for you she means simple, healthy ingredients with no GMOs, no artificial colors or sweeteners, no harmful preservatives, and most importantly no more than 200 calories per pack.  You can subscribe and receive a box each week, or simply shop a la carte.  They’re the perfect size to stash in my purse for long days away from the studio and there are SO many snack combos to choose from you’ll never get bored.  While I like each and every one I’ve tried (no joke, I like them all), I’d have to say my favorites are Chili’n In The Corn’r, Cashew Colada, and PB Jammin’.  Eat Happy!  truly, MKR
