Worth Noting: Fall at Home

It's time to get cozy, embrace some hygge and tuck right in
Filed Under > Everyday

Okay, okay, okay, I’m ready for fall.  And that doesn’t just mean the boots, sweaters and leather jackets.  I’m talking about the warm, you’ll-just-want-to-stay-in details at home too!  Now’s the time to weave in the hygge details you’ve been dying to display.

Don’t know where to start?!  Think TEXTURE with natural hide pillows, wood and brass accents, and woven throw blankets.  And don’t forget oversized mugs for hot tea and apple cider!  I’m especially in love with this zodiac mug from our shoppe—I’m a Libra and have this exact one…and it is absolutely amazing—and cozy candles galore!  Cheers, Kat

Fall MUST…Jackets

From left to right, top to bottom…Zara Jacket  ||  All Saints Monument Coat  ||  Burberry Trench  ||  Kenneth Cole Moto  ||  All Saints Moto  ||  J.Crew Boyfriend Blazer  ||  Band of Outsiders Contrast Blazer  ||  Thakoon Field Jacket  ||  TopShop Moto  ||  TopShop by Unique Longline Coat

Kicking off my fall fashion MUSTS this week with one of my favorite necessities/closet staples…jackets and blazers.  Before I go into what I’m buying and why, a little background on how I make purchases.  Usually for seasons, and truly for any time of the year my shopping falls into two categories.  Category one, the classics which in my mind are the truly splurge worthy items.  The ones you’ll have in your closet for years to come.  The investment pieces.  Category two, the trends.  Trends are by definition the current fashion.  More than likely you’ll only get 2 seasons out of these items therefore not usually worth the all mighty dollar.  Make sense?  Good.  Now on to what I’m buying this season…leather everything, moto jackets, contrast centric pieces, boyfriend blazers, field jackets, and a classic trench.

Leather everything.  Jackets, skirts, pants, shorts, skorts, dresses, shirts, literally everything, and in every color.  The great thing about leather being so in demand is that numerous brands have come out with vegan or faux leather, and no one is the wiser.  Best places for a little faux…Zara, Tinley Road via Piperlime, and TopShop.

The moto.  Oh the love I have for the moto.  My thoughts…invest in a classic black moto and save on a colored moto.  Though instead of investing in black I may choose the bordeaux All Saints from above which I was lucky enough to wear during THIS shoot.  No words.

Contrast centric pieces.  I’m loving pretty much everything with a contrast sleeve or color.  It just elevates a classic so easily.

Boyfriend blazers.  Such a place in my heart this season for all mens inspired looks.  The boyfriend blazer from J.Crew is a no brainer.  Wear it with your boyfriend jeans, button down, oxfords and Warby Parkers for a complete “chasing the ivy-school boy” look.

Field jacket.  The classic has gotten a big re-vamp this season.  Living in the South now the field jacket is about as heavy as a coat that I need and since last year my daily uniform was a field jacket, button down, leggings and knee high riding boots I’m adding a few new ones to my wardrobe this season.  I recently purchased THIS from J.Crew and my mouth is literally salivating for that Thakoon.

Lastly, the trench.  One word, Burberry.  An investment you’ll have for years, and years to come.  No one does it better.

So thats that.  I’d love to hear what’s on your fall wish list?  truly, MKR.

Celebrating The Fresh Fig: 11 Fig Recipes to Fix This Fall

From Finger-Licking Appetizers to Scrumptious Desserts and Tasty Libations...Here's 11 Ways to Enjoy Figs
Filed Under > Everyday

Okay so I know I’m pushing it with the whole Fall thing since figs are only in season for a tiny bit longer, but I just had to share a roundup recipes using this gorgeous fruit. If I ever had a crush on a fruit, it would be on fresh figs.

Thanks to Pinterest, I found myself pinning one recipe after another.  A fig’s deep, rich color is utterly eye-catching, especially when a fig is placed on a charcuterie board, on top of a cake or sprinkled on a salad.  After some digging, I quickly learned that grilling raw figs will give you a sweeter, fuller flavor that’s super juicy.  You can enhance its flavor, too, with caramelized sugar, and pair it with a rich goat cheese or salty meat to give your taste buds a treat. Figs have also been grown and enjoyed since ancient times, which as a quasi-history nerd, I was loved finding out.  Click through the slideshow above to find 11 fresh fig recipes that you should fix up before the end of fall. Enjoy!  Cheers, Kat
