A Spring-Filled Table

Whether it’s a table for one or a table for ten, the number of people you’re hosting shouldn’t determine the pomp and circumstance that goes along with being a good host.  Case in point: a light, spring filled lunch I put together earlier this week for just my mother and me.

I set the table with my staples: rose gold silverware, fresh wild flowers representative of spring, and print-heavy jacquard linens.  I then added a few new friends in the form of bold, intricate place settings by Royal Crown Derby.  With blues and greys, to pinks, purples, and even chartreuse, the Royal Crown Derby pieces tied the entire table together with a cohesive look and feel.  And let’s be honest, there was no way I could have chosen just one of the colors; to the dismay of my husband I feel a new collection beginning to take shape!

We noshed on arugula salad, fresh herb and olive oil pasta, honey thyme lemonade with sugared blackberries, and of course plenty of Rose wine.  It was delicious, refreshing, and exactly the kind of afternoon that reminded me of why I moved to closer to my family.

We’ll be sharing the recipes later next week, but in the meantime, I hope you’re spending the weekend around a table—no matter how big or small—and hosting a meal for those you love.  Truly, MKR

P.S. Make sure you’re following both myself and Steve McKenzies on Instagram because we’re giving away a piece from my table to one lucky reader just for sharing a spring place setting you’re feeling inspired by. Snap a pic and share how you’re getting ready to entertain this spring by tagging @waitingonmartha & @stevemckenzies with hashtag #viewfromabove. You’ll be entered to win my favorite spring serving bowl, a $150 value. The winner will be chosen at random on Monday, April 13.

Gifts For The Chef + A Giveaway

La-Crema-Gift-Guide

This holiday season I’ve teamed up with one of my favorites, La Crema, (you may remember my Virtual Vintner dinner party and adventures of harvest) and five other amazing bloggers to help you gift the ones you hold dear.  We’re not only sharing our best and brightest gift ideas, but also giving away SIX (yes SIX) $350 Visa Gift Cards to help you spread the love.

This year for a lot of my personal gift giving I’m sharing my passion of food.  So it was only natural my gift guide be one for the Chef, filled with olive oils, the pepper mill I’ve been pinning after, Le Creuset because obviously you need Le Creuset, vintage bread boards, and wine.  Lots and lots of wine.  And while I enjoy La Crema all year round (wine club anyone?) they’ve made gifting truly easy this season by putting together sets for every wine lover on your list.  One of my favorites is the Perfect Pairing Set which includes the Perfect Pairings book by Ryland, Peters and Small and the Monterey Pinot Noir (always a classic).  Some of my other favorites; the Case of Mondays Varietal Pack (which I would love to have received today), and the Shell Ridge Pinot and Nine Barrel.  Two La Crema wines that were new to me but I had the pleasure of enjoying while I was in Sonoma.  The Nine Barrel is particularly special (and great for gifting) because each year the winemaking team selects nine truly exceptional barrels of Russian River wines to create a blend without equal.  And like all good things, when it’s gone it’s gone, there’s no replicating a specific year or barrel.

And because everyone loves a little Pinterest we’ll be sharing some of our favorite gift guide picks as well as some great homemade ideas on La Crema’s Holiday Gift Guide Board.  Now who want to win those $350 Visa Gift Card?  Good luck Loves!  Truly, MKR
