Best Ever Grilled Veggie Burger & Peppercorn Crusted Beef Burger

My spin on the All-American classic, just in time for Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day food ideas & recipes, Waiting on Martha The Best Ever Grilled Veggie Burger & Peppercorn Beef Burgers recipes, Waiting On Martha

If you follow me on Snapchat (username WAITINGONMARTHA) it will come as no surprise to you that I’m a firm believer that everything tastes better cooked, grilled or smoked (preferably on the Big Green Egg) over an open flame. EVERYTHING.  And while I’m a pescatarian, I don’t let you meat eaters have all of the fun when it comes to barbecues.  Over the years, I’ve perfected my go-to recipe for the best ever grilled veggie burger…and let’s just say that it could tempt even the biggest carnivores at your Memorial Day party.

The problem with veggie burgers, if you’ve ever had them, is they tend to fall into two categories: bland tasting and stiff as cardboard, or an un-grillable mushy-like consistency that is neither appetizing or easy to grill.  So, I’ve made it my mission to perfect a grillable, tasty, veggie burger that will give any beef burger a run for it’s money.  And after numerous trial and errors, I believe I have finally figured it out.  With a combination of black beans, cauliflower rice, grilled onions, panko breadcrumbs and a plethora of sauces and spices, this may just be the best veggie burger recipe out there, if I do say myself.  Of course I couldn’t forget all of you carnivores, so along with my veggie burger, I’ve included my ultimate peppercorn crusted beef burger recipe below.  Both recipes masterfully satisfy that burger craving (because those exist, especially on a long weekend), and I’m telling you that it’s quite hard to believe they’re homemade.

All week, and just in time for the long weekend, join us as we usher in the start of grilling season and celebrate the art of the barbecue.  It doesn’t stop after today’s drool-worthy burgers, we’ll be keeping it going with what I like to consider the Top 10 Memorial Day Party Essentials, all of the beloved sides every barbecue needs (think homemade coleslaw, macaroni salad & more), a great Memorial Day party outfit and last but not least, root beer floats (which you can most definitely make boozy!).  Tell me friends, what are you most looking forward to grilling this season?  Truly, MKR

Five Beauty Products I’m Currently Crushing On

From The Best BB Cream to Aloe Laced Booties, Here's What I Can't Stop Using
Filed Under > Beauty & Tutorials

My top 5 beauty products and the best BB Cream, Waiting On Martha

When I find a new beauty product I love, I can’t stop talking about it.  So taking in consideration that I’m currently utterly obsessed with these five goods, I knew it was only fair that I shared a rundown with all of you. Say hello to my top beauty products on rotation: a the best, miracle-working BB Cream, nontoxic lip gloss, a gentle and luxurious foaming cleanser, Heaven-on-Earth aloe booties (yes they’re a thing) and a life-changing hair masque.  All big claims, I know, but seriously I can’t get enough of them right now!  Truly MKR

No. One.  Tarte BB Tinted Primer.  I’ve never used a BB Cream, or any kind of primer for fear of breaking out.  But then I saw this picture on Womanista’s Instagram and I couldn’t hit up Sephora fast enough.  Tarte’s BB Tinted Primer is just as magical as it appears and so far hasn’t caused any adolescent-esqe breakouts.

No. Two.  Smith & Cult Lip Gloss.  My obsession with Smith & Cult continues as they’ve now launched their nontoxic lip gloss line in the prettiest shades of pink.  And while snatching up a couple tubes, you know I couldn’t pass up adding a few new shades of their nail polish to my collection.

No. Three.  One Love Organics Easy Does It Foaming Cleanser.  This foaming cleanser is perfect for sensitive skin and smells as good as it works.  Pair it with their charcoal heart sponge for a truly spa-like experience.

No. Four.  Aloe Gel-Lined Booties.  With all the damage I’ve done to my feet by stuffing them in ballet pointe shoes for years and pointy-toed 4+ inch heels, the damage is starting to catch up to me.  Luckily, I found these aloe and tee tree oil laced booties that are as refreshing as they are healing.

No. Five.  Macadamia Professional Hair Masque.  Recently I discovered this relatively unknown, but cult-esque brand Macadamia Professional.  While all of their products are amazing, I’m particularly smitten with their moisturizing hair masque.  Smother it on at night, shower it out in the morning, and it’s like all those days of straight ironing and curling have just disappeared.

Ancient Grains Salad with Wheat Berries, Brussels Sprouts, Watercress, Dried Apricots & Pomegranate Seeds

A New Favorite Salad That's Just as Vibrant As It Is Filling

Ancient Grains Salad with Brussels Sprouts recipe via Waiting on Martha Ancient Grains salad recipe Wheat Berries Brussels Sprouts salad #recipeAncient grains salad with wheat berries and brussels sproutsAncient grains salad recipe

Monday sure doesn’t seem so bad when you have a great lunch in tow. And this is exactly the kind of recipe we’re looking forward to noshing on today: a great salad recipe from our friends at Homespun that’s just as vibrant as it is filling.

Chef Jason brings us an ancient grains salad with red winter wheat berries, brussels sprouts, pomegranate seeds, dried apricots, watercress and toasted almonds. I know that I’m always a fan of a salad that perfectly allocates goodness in each bite, and it’s safe to say that Chef Jason does just that with this ancient grains salad. A subtly sweet, yet tangy dressing of a little white balsamic, olive oil and agave nectar is the perfect finish to this new lunchtime favorite. Cheers, Kat
