It’s always surprised me that the entryway is all too often overlooked when styling one’s home.  Being the first opportunity to impress guests, your entry way is a peek into your personal style and ultimately the place that welcomes you home, it becomes a pivotal space in your home’s design, and should be treated as such.

While I’ve welcomed a myriad of colors, prints and textiles into my entryway, I opted to keep the walls crisp with just a hint of purple/grey by using Behr’s Lilac Mist and bright white trim.  By doing so, I can maximize the natural light and let the rest of the vibrant decor shine.

Influences from far away lands— a feather juju hat, framed tribal garments, and ginger jars, and collected over the years and my deep crimson vintage Turkish rug—are bold, yet effortless, accents that work together to extend the personality of the rest of our home throughout the foyer.

An oversized mirror, bamboo chairs and small rattan stool are just as functional as they are stylish; a perfect time to touch up my pink pout, and a helpful place to set my purse. The chandelier and horse lamp serve as the “jewelry” of the space.  Lighting is my favorite way to infuse fun and personality into any space.  And I can’t talk about my entryway without addressing our leopard stair runner.  Leopard has been and always will be a neutral in my mind, so I was never fearful about making such a bold choice as I knew it would blend with everything. And I’m currently obsessing over the idea of an antelope stair runner as well.

I know not every entryway lends itself to large statements and grand decor due to size. But with a carefully-curated collection of prints and designs, even the smallest of entryways can open up the home.  Truly, MKR

Setting The Table With World Market: Part 3

Relishing those Lazy Weekend Mornings with a Cheerful Brunch Table and Hashbrown Casserole

Over the past two weeks, you’ve seen how we’ve teamed up with World Market to share casual dining inspiration for down-to-earth entertaining any day of the week.  We created a cool California, wine country inspired table and a rustic table perfect for an everyday Italian meal.  So with dinner covered, it only natural to move on to my favorite day and my favorite meal; Sunday.  And on Sundays we brunch.

I don’t know about you, but in the Rye household, weekends (when we’re actually home) are the time to enjoy sleeping in, indulge in the comfort food we missed during the week, and just relax!  It’s a far cry from the weekday hustle-and-bustle when we’re looking for keys, flying out of the door, and grabbing coffee to go.

When setting the table, World Market’s beautiful and colorful earthenware plates seemed as if they were made for an easy weekend brunch.  The plates‘ designs are complimented by florals I pulled from around the home; sweet orange ranunculus in bud vases and deep purple artichokes and eucalyptus.  In keeping with our theme of casual entertaining  eggs, toast, pastries, and my infamous cheesy hashbrown casserole are served table side making them easily accessible for second and third servings.

The casserole.  Where do I begin?  The ooey-gooey goodness is reason enough to get out of bed in the morning; with a generous helping of sharp cheddar cheese, green peppers, onions, shredded potatoes (you can use organic frozen potatoes like I did), and jalepenos of course, you have one heck of a breakfast casserole. And remember, a casserole can be made the night before, so consider this your excuse to stay in bed a little longer!

Lastly, french press coffee will be a must, and as many of you know, I run on coffee so this is very important to keep my cup filled.  I also like to offer fruit juice on the table for an extra sip, so having a refreshing, unique flavor on hand like mango or guava is an easy, yet special touch.  Enjoy!  Truly, MKR

P.S. I’ll be sharing my cheesy hashbrown casserole recipe later this week and we’ve got one more week of casual dining inspo coming your way; tune in next week for the daintiest, French Provincial inspired table of sweet treats for the girls. xo

Cherished Holiday Traditions: Part III

Festive Holiday Gift Wrap Inspiration with World Market

Every year, I pride myself in the art of gift wrap. I may even go so far as to say that I’m officially Santa’s jolliest helper. I mean what’s better than a perfectly wrapped present under the tree?! It’s such an easy way to show loved ones that you care by adding a little something extra to their gift.

So when World Market asked me to share a few of my most cherished holiday traditions, I was eager to share my favorite wrapping tricks along with some gift wrap inspiration here on the blog. I tackle each gift like a work of art, selecting clever tie-ons, like ornamentscrackers or a sprig of natural greenery (think rosemary, magnolia or evergreen pine), and tying bold ribbon around colorful wrapping paper.

While my father (the true gift wrap king) always sticks to a specific colorway and theme per person, I like to switch things up.  I never shy from mixing patterns, as I think a little pattern play only adds to the fun holiday vibe. Stripes + polka dots, patterns + stripes…the possibilities are endless.  If possible stick to double sided tape to allow for the cleanest paper lines and while it sounds simple I always forget this one; write on your tags before you tie them on your package.  Nothing is worse then trying not to mess up your perfectly wrapped present while having to somehow legibly write a to and from with the tag tied on the gift.

Though I pride myself in being a gift wrap pro, I took a few notes from World Market this year too. These four festive styles are packed with stunning gift wrap inspiration that I’m already scheming to use next year. And with all of the gift wrap currently on sale, it’s time to stock up for next year! Ho ho ho! Truly, MKR

P.S. Check out some of my other favorite holiday traditions, like a holiday ornament exchange and holiday gift baskets. xo
