Murchison Hume Giveaway

While buying for The Shop a few months ago I was introduced to a new-to-me line of homecleaning products, Murchison Hume.  I was immediately drawn to MH’s classic and stylish packaging, their intoxicating scents of fig and Australian grapefruit, and upon learning about their environmentally safe, non toxic creation process  I was sold.  To put it more simply MH’s green house cleaning products are “people safe, child safe, pet safe, plant safe, eco friendly, natural, non toxic, 100% cruelty free, and never tested on animals.”  And we’re not just talking about cleaning products.  There’s also the bag butler leather conditioner, garment cleaner, furniture spritz, basically everything you need in your linen closet.  And I think I mentioned they’re gorgeous!  Finally products you can actually leave out on your counter…pretty and smart.

Murchison Hume was founded in Sydney Australia in 2007 by a fabulous couple, Max and Peter Kater.  Their story goes a little something like this…Max was born and raised in a beige-and-leafy suburb of Los Angeles, where she dreamed of Bright Lights and the Big City.  After a brief stint as a Junior Publicist in Hollywood she landed her first job as a Fashion Editor and never looked back.  Her job ultimately took her to Hong Kong, where she met her husband and business partner, Peter, in a private disco.  Max gave up her career as a Fashion Editor to be a stay at home Mother, dreaming of gorgeous housecleaning products that didn’t exist.

Peter was born in Sydney, Australia and had the same itchy feet to see the world as Max. Growing tired of morning group exercise at Mitsubishi Corporation, “I do miss the morning stretches sometimes,” he set his cap for Old Hong Kong. There he worked for an eco-savvy company that started his long association with environmentally conscious businesses. After a long and successful tenure in the corporate world, Peter has been gently coaxed away from his lucrative career to become the Managing Director of Murchison-Hume.“Not nearly the same salary, but the perks are good.”  After launching in Sydney in 2007 they have returned to live in LA with their two young sons, Ben and Charlie, who were the inspiration behind the Boy’s Bathroom Cleaner and well the rest is history.

So to celebrate these amazing products, and the fact that they are now gracing our virtual shelves we’ve partnered with Max and Peter to giveaway their Classic Six Box Set to TWO lucky readers (a $130 value).  The Classic Six includes everything you need to keep the house naturally clean and fresh (boys bathroom cleaner, premium glass polish, spit and polish stainless steel cleaner, furniture spritzer, counter spray, floor splash, bamboo caddy) and comes with a Handy Bamboo Caddy to keep things tidy under the sink. Are we ready to start cleaning?  Happy Monday Loves.  truly, MKR.

The legal mumbo jumbo...this giveaway is open to US and Australian residents and will run through Sunday the 20th with our winners announced Monday the 21st.  We’ll be running this all through Rafflecopter (below) which allows you to earn points for each item completed with a simple click of the button.  The more points you earn the more likely you are to win (and remember you probably already have entry points if you’re a regular reader of the blog).

This post and giveaway was sponsored by Murchison Hume, but the opinions, and obvious love of Murchison Hume is all my own!

Bubbles, Cake & A Cavalier…Feel Good Wednesdays

A few weeks ago I was chitty chatting with my friends over at Deer Park Spring Waters about their new campaign Feel Good Wednesdays, and I knew I had to help spread the word.  Lately I’ve really been trying to take a moment.  To breathe and enjoy the present instead of constantly running to check the next thing of my to do list.  To start saying no to more things I feel I “have” to do and start saying yes to more things I want to do.  And that my friends is what Deer Park’s Feel Good Movement is all about.  Encouraging a pause in the pursuit.

The idea is simple…take a moment mid week and do whatever recharges your battery, or as I like to think of it refreshes your soul.  For me hitting the refresh button usually involves good food, good drink, and of course good company.  So this week I took a moment and made the most delish lemon-ginger bundt cake (Martha’s recipe of course), paired it with Deer Park’s new lemon sparkling water and spent some QT with Addison and my September mags.  And it my friends was magnificent.  Just what I needed.

So I invite you all to join the Feel Good Movement and share on their FB page what you do to take a moment.  And don’t worry though these bubbles are absolutely perfect as is of course it wouldn’t be my sort of campaign without making a cocktail (or two) out of their four different flavors which I’ll be sharing next Wednesday.  truly, MKR.

This post was sponsored by Arrowhead®, Deer Park®, Ice Mountain®, Ozarka®, Poland Spring®, Zephyrhills® Brands Sparkling Natural Spring Waters, but the opinions are 100% my own.  Images via yours truly and the Mr.

A Summer Tablescape + Five Tips For Setting A Table

My personal style is always “opposites attract.” From combining feminine and masculine, heavy and soft, to modern and traditional, I believe combining opposites yields the most dramatic and yet surprisingly natural results. But sometimes I just have to indulge in the ultra feminine side of me, as is the case with my perfectly pretty summer table setting!  With just one look at this tablescape, it’s easy to see that living in the South has really started to impact my design aesthetic. This particular table was inspired by vivid summer hues, quintessential Southern style and my favorite summer indulgence: key lime pie. It’s light, fresh, feminine, and perfect for summer!

And when setting your table, besides your basic etiquette there are a few hard and fast rules I always adhere to:

No. 01 – Think variation in color, pattern and height. I want my table to create interest at every angle and this is easily achieved by mixing colors and patterns, with elements at different heights. By simply placing a napkin between the charger and dinner plate or dinner plate and salad plate,  you can break things up and give your place setting definition.

No. 02 – Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and shades of color. I would have never thought a chartreuse ikat placemat and kelly green greek key napkin would work well together, but I loved the result once I played around with it!

No. 03 – Invest in round white dinner and salad plates. They’re easy and will go with everything. I rely on white plates as the starting point for most of my tablescapes. Just add colorful linens (I love festive napkins) and dessert plates for instant pop.

No. 04 – Go all out with your flatware. Forget about silver or stainless steel—go with gold or rose gold for something unexpected and unforgettable. I found my gold set at One Kings Lane years ago and the rose gold set featured in this tablescape is a recent purchase from West Elm.

No. 05 – Don’t forget fresh flowers! In my mind, a table is just not a table without fresh flowers. My biggest resource for affordable flowers is a wholesale florist and foraging. Finding a great vendor and planning in advance are your best options for a beautiful, inexpensive arrangement!  See how I created this arrangement right HERE.

Happy entertaining Loves!  truly, MKR
