The Best All Natural Beauty Products

Recently I’ve been asked several times about my beauty routine, (last week I even shared a peek on Snapchat during my weekly Snapchat (username Waiting On Martha Q&A).  And like any (realistic) routine, my “beauty” routine will always involve a series of trials and errors, and constantly be evolving and changing.  But there are a few things that will never change; I prefer to stick to all natural beauty products whenever possible and I love using the Think Dirty App when in doubt about products’ toxicity and ingredients.  I have super-sensitive, acne prone, combination skin so when I do find something that works you’ll be hard pressed to get me to switch.  A few examples of my tried and true favorites; BareMinerals foundation, bronzer, and mineral veil.  One Love Organics Easy Does It foaming cleanser and of course my Tropical Pink YSL Lipstick.

Today though, I’m sharing a few other noteworthy front-runners of the moment, all products that I feel great about wearing regularly, and all worthy of the space on my bathroom countertop.  Read all about them below, but after you do, I’d love to hear about your own beauty must-haves!  Truly, MKR

No. 1…The Super Elixir.  I take a helping of this superfood supplement every day with 5 oz. of water.  Yes, it’s a little grainy that way, but it saves me time in the morning when I’m on the go.  It can also be added to a smoothie. In my opinion, the Elixir tastes like mint and “green” but it’s all the good superfood ingredients that I need in my day. I’ve read in the reviews that it’s helped many people with stomach issues, and I’d have to agree.  And as Elle McPherson says, “It is an investment but it’s cheaper than a good face cream.”

No. 2…Mario Bedescu Glycolic Skin Renewal Complex.  I think of this miracle cream as my spot cream for breakouts and scarring as it seems to turns over skin quickly. While it’s too strong to use every night, I use when needed, sleeping with it on. And more times than not, I’ll go to bed with a glaring breakout, only to wake with little to no trace of it left.

No. 3…RoC Skincare 5-in-1 Chest, Neck & Face Cream.  You’ll remember I just raved about this all-in-one anti-aging cream, and am already seeing fine lines disappear on my neck.  Another great thing is that the MULTI CORREXION® cream won’t break the bank, and you can pick it up at Walgreens!

No. 4…Smith & Cult Nail Color.  These gorgeous hues in the chicest of bottles are free of formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl (no thank you!) and I wear them all year round. (But hey S&C, I just want to say that you’ve discontinued my absolute favorite color, Feathers & Flesh, so if you could bring that back I’d be so happy!) And for the record, I love the lipgloss too; it’s one of the best all natural beauty products I’ve foundand lasts for months.

No. 5…NARS ‘Monoi’ Body Glow II.  I like to use this rich, silky body oil in the bathtub and on freshly shaved legs. With a few simple drops I always have the silkiest, smoothest skin.  And double BONUS, I recently read an article that said it acts at one of the best natural bug repellents around.

No. 6…Artis Oval 8 BrushTo say that I’m obsessed with this makeup brush is major, major understatement. I’m sure you’ve seen Artis brushes all over by now, and they really do work as well as they say.  I use the brush to put on my bb cream, brushing away every line and crease.  This size is best for all-over face and neck, and it blends sooo well.  If you’re interested, there’s a full-set available as well.

No. 7…Brand New Day Microderma Scrub + Masque. An easy favorite by One Love Organics (I know, I’m a cult follower) that I use several times a week to slough off dead skin and keep my face and neck feeling new and fresh. This multi-use exfoliant can be used as a scrub or easy masque (simply add water or greek yogurt!).

No. 8…Olaplex No. 3 3.3-Oz. Hair Perfector My hair was never really damaged in the past, but since I begun using a wand and straightener whenever I rock my waves, it’s starting to show signs of distress. But this once-a-week conditioning treatment that I can sleep in has restored shine and body back into my locks.

No. 9…Herbivore Lapis Oil Balancing Facial Oil. Most facial oils break me out, but this one doesn’t.  I can use this instead of a moisturizer, and I feel good using it because it has absolutely no artificial ingredients, fillers, alcohol, animal ingredients, fragrances, artificial colors, or unnatural preservatives.

No. 10…Weleda Skin Food & Weleda Sea Buckthorne Cream.  These two (incredibly affordable) hand creams are my absolute favorites.  Talk about one of the best natural beauty products out their, Weleda score sa 0 out of 10 on the toxicity scale via ThinkDirty app, and they both smell amazing.  You can find this thick, decadent hand cream in my nightstand, kitchen drawer, purse…everywhere. And since it’s very rich, you don’t need to use a lot, plus it smells divine.

Two years ago when our house was being built, we could only pick from a certain range of options for cabinetry, countertops and flooring.  As you can somewhat see here, the countertops are a mixed neutral, and the original cabinetry a cream with all bronze fixtures.  I did my best to stay true to my personal design aesthetic, but the result has never felt quite right.  If I had free reign, I would have picked white marble for the countertops and white cabinets with silver or gold fixtures.  And if this was our “Forever Home”, I would consider ripping it all out and doing just that, but it’s not.

So what does one do when they don’t want to spend the money or time to demo it all and start from scratch?  You go bold to make a big impact and you change what can be changed, specifically four different things: paint, lighting, fixtures and accessories.

Beginning first with paint, since color always set the tone for the space.  I took to Snapchat, username WAITINGONMARTHA, and asked everyone to vote on the color theme they liked best.  As you can probably deduce from the photos, green defeated purple and deep burgundy by a landslide. Once we had color chosen, the next logical step was to swatch numerous shades of green on the walls and trim before I settled on the winning three.  I chose three different greens because I’m a big proponent in painting with various shades within the same color family.  This way, you add dimension and can instantly accent specific details.

Then I used three different shades of green from BEHR Paint.  Longmeadow S430-5 in eggshell on the walls, Brook Green N410-2 in eggshell on the ceiling and Forest Edge S430-6 in a satin on the trim, doors and cabinetry.  A semi- or high-gloss would have looked fantastic as well on the cabinets, trim, and doors, but because I have so many doors in the space, four to be exact, I was worried the high-gloss might be just a tad too much.  And don’t be afraid to paint doors; I didn’t even take the doors off to paint them.  Going bold with the doors was a move I think definitely paid off in the space.

Second, to carry a big impact through the entire space, I switched out the bronze faucets for silver ones.  The new faucets were easy to install, and inexpensive finds at The Home Depot.  I then changed out all the bronze cabinet knobs to these beauties.  Now, I definitely splurged on these gorgeous knobs. But to me, these additions were the jewelry on the space, making the Forest Edge green pop bringing it all together.  I did, however, keep the original bronze hardware so that I can replace them when I move…shhh don’t tell whoever buys this house…and take the fancy knobs with me.

On a side note, I initially wanted to go gold; brass and acrylic knobs are something dreams are made of and would look insane on the green.  But I also wanted to keep expenses down.  I knew that if I went gold, I would have had to invest in some pricier faucets, and again, it’s not worth the investment in a home we don’t plan to be in too much longer.  And honestly, it was fortuitous as now that I’m looking at the silver fixtures, gold wouldn’t have looked as good with the countertops!

Next up, lighting; an easy and significant way to change up any space.  I removed my very sad looking bronze wall mount lighting and opted for these fresh, clean and striking 3-arm fixtures. The bright white and polished nickel gives the space a more elevated and modern feel; I couldn’t be happier with my choice.  And because my ceilings are quite high and because you know I always like a big statement, this decopauged chandelier from Stray Dog Designs seems to have been built specifically for this space!  It’s SO beautiful, and would look equally as good in a breakfast nook or nursery.  This piece will definitely be coming with me to the next house, for sure!.

Lastly, accents and accessories.  When I settled on green as the color theme, I immediately called my friend Dorothy Shain to commission a few pieces.  I’d been lusting after her itsy bitsy bikinis and knew that together with the green, they would be jaw dropping…especially this particular duo in matching floating frames.  Don’t you just love how you can see the Longmeadow green through the floating frames?!?!  Other than art, I zhushed up the space with a new shower curtain whose stripes happen to be almost the exact same Brook Green color I painted on the ceiling, a vintage turkish runner, and a caddy complete with all of my favorite soaps and scents.

All big statements, all relatively easy updates, and it all started with a little green paint from BEHR.  I know it can be scary to go bold when painting, but it really will pay off in the end when you see your totally transformed space.  And if you’re thinking about tackling a project like this on your own, and are still a little uneasy about painting cabinets, and an entire space with such a bold color, tune in tomorrow when I’m sharing a few quick DIY tips to help you master it all.  Truly, MKR

Saturday Skin, Primally Pure and more nontoxic favorites | Waiting on Martha

The change of seasons brings about even more reason to give your skin a little TLC. You’ll quickly sense a moisturizing-obsessed theme here too; I’m giving extra attention to the hydrating and nourishing products that make me feel my best all over.

I recently went on a little spree with Saturday Skin — isn’t the packaging beautiful? And of course, I’ve been finishing my Colleen Rothschild favorites, too. Read about these current go-to’s below, and tell me if you’ve tried any, and what you think! Truly, MKR

One. Weleda Birch Cellulite Oil. I’m a huge fan of Weleda; it’s an affordable, nontoxic brand that’s easy to find (hello, Target) and boasts effective products to boot. This cellulite oil helps tone and firm up the skin, using natural essential oils. You won’t find any fragrance, added color or preservatives in this nourishing and moisturizing oil.

Two. One Love Organics Love + Charcoal Mask. One of my favorite things about OLO products is how hydrating they are. This luxurious mask uses aloe vera and charcoal to detox the skin, cleansing it but never drying it out. If you’re on the lookout for the perfect mask, you’ve got to try this one.

Three. Saturday Skin Wide Awake Brightening Cream. I gravitate to all eye creams and balms as I’ve found my eyes to show my age. I recently tried a bundle of Saturday Skin products — they had me on their packaging!) and was pleasantly surprised to find the cream to be great at reducing puffiness. Its smooth application is refreshing and lovely.

Four. Colleen Rothschild Sheer Renewal Cream. A lightweight, sheer, non-greasy moisturizer? Sign me up. I’ve since emptied this Colleen Rothschild cream and going back for more! It hasn’t caused any breakouts; instead, it’s left my skin happy and glowing. I love to wear it as a deep hydrating cream when I head to bed.

Five. Herbivore Botanicals Blue Tansy Resurfacing Clarity Mask. It wouldn’t be “Me Time” without a cooling face mask. There’s just something so satisfying about applying a mask that you can truly FEEL doing its magic on the skin. This blue wonder by Herbivore Botanicals is a bestseller at Waiting on Martha Home, and for obvious reason. #obsessed

Six. Kiel’s ‘Superbly Restorative’ Argan Body Lotion. Are you sensing a theme here? I’m obsessed with moisturizing my skin all over, especially as we hop into spring. I love this cult-classic body lotion for its ability to absorb into the skin quickly. It has Moroccan argan oil to thank for its antioxidant-rich blend that helps fight damage caused by free radicals and smooth texture. Yes and yes.

Seven. Cap Beauty The Neat Matcha Sticks. Single-serve matcha packets are my new best friend. They’re perfect for travel; offering the smooth and calm focus — and a boost of antioxidants — of high-quality matcha tea.

Eight. Marvis Toothpaste. If you’re on the nontoxic journey like me, then you’ll know how hard it is to find a great, all natural toothpaste. Marvis is the answer, my friends! I love the flavor and fresh effect of both the Whitening and the Cinnamon flavors — and I have yet to try the Jasmin Mint and Ginger Mint!

Nine. Primally Pure Deodorant. Ah, natural deodorant. I’ve tried A LOT and I’ve nearly given up on the quest for an effective one after trying lots of duds. But Primally Pure has come to the rescue with their Lavender and Charcoal deodorants — they work.

Ten. Colleen Rothschild Daily Defense SPF 25. I’ve been pretty religious about applying SPF lately, and this Colleen Rothschild cream makes it easy. It’s basically a primer that sits perfectly alone or under makeup with its smooth finish.

Eleven. Saturday Skin Featherweight Daily Moisturizing Cream. Another favorite find from my recent Saturday Skin haul, this lightweight body lotion is a DREAM. It’s gentle, absorbs quickly and feels luxurious to the touch. I highly recommend if you’re on the hunt for the perfect warm-weather moisturizer.

Twelve. Kora Skinfood Supplement. You know what they say; beauty comes from the inside out. I’ve recently been obsessed with these convenient single-serve skinfood supplements. They’re packed with nutrients to make you look — and feel — your best. Not only great for digestion, this blend is packed with antioxidants and immune-boosting ingredients. I add this blend to my daily smoothie and am loving it!

Thirteen. Saturday Skin Balancing Act Skin Smoothing Lotion. Okay, I stocked up on the Saturday Skin products, I know! But this lotion was too good not to try. It’s large, reasonably priced, and pleasantly gentle on my skin. It’s lightly scented and is wonderful to apply during my slower nighttime rituals.

Fourteen. Saturday Skin Rise + Shine Purifying Cleanser. How could I forget the cleanser! It’s hard finding a nontoxic, effective face cleanser that doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils and moisture, am I right? This one has you covered; its gentle blend of apple and peach extracts are simply lovely. I’m a huge new fan of this entire skincare line — stock up at Nordstrom!
