The Sound of Luxury Experiment

Blown Away by Sounds' Ability to Move Us All

I love music. Specifically, I love the feelings that music evokes. If you don’t believe me, just take one quick look at my music library, where you’ll find playlist titles such as “Sappy,” “Pump It Up,” and “Just Relax.” So when Lincoln asked that I come to California during music’s biggest weekend—at least on TV—to help introduce Lincoln’s new Revel System and talk about how music can shift one’s mood or perspective, I was on the next flight out.

Revel, a very well-known name in home audio from Harman, had been working with Lincoln over the past year to create a sound system like I have never seen in a car. A celebration of the Lincoln + Revel collaboration was the Sound of Luxury Experiment, set up at beloved LA hotspot Henry’s. Upon arrival, guests received a special code to lift a garage-like door, revealing a Lincoln MKX and the Sound of Luxury experience. Once we were comfortably seated inside the MKX we pressed play, and the experience truly began. Through the stunning use of video, paired with music composed specially for Lincoln by composer Paola Prestini, guests were transported through nearly five minutes of pure sound heaven.

The music was so powerful. When I had the opportunity to talk with Paola afterward, I couldn’t help but ask her about the relationship between music and moods—to which she immediately replied that sounds “color the music, which in turn sparks certain feelings.” Inspired, I ended up talking with more than a dozen guests that night, and it was apparent that these feelings seemed to be shared. Common emotional reactions to different sounds spanned happiness to sadness, and feelings of longing and remembrance. When asked how sound can shape their outlook or mood, a few people responded almost philosophically with sentiments like “Sound is perception,” “Sound brings life,” and most simply, “Sound is everything.”

After chatting about the emotions tied to music, I’d have been remiss had I not found out about the science behind it all. That’s where Kevin Voeck comes in. Kevin, a Revel sound engineer, has worked with Lincoln for more than a year to create the state-of-the-art system. And while I know more now about sound and sound systems then I had ever imagined I could, two things really stuck with me after talking with the creators of the system and experiencing it in person. First, the ability of the engineers from Lincoln and Revel to research and place speakers very precisely around the car resulted in the sensation that you’re at an actual concert, since the sound is layered in front of you at a very natural level…rather than pouring out of speakers at knee level. Second, the high-efficiency transducers generate sound with minimal distortion…and that is scientific talk for “the quality of sound doesn’t change no matter how loud I play my favorite pump-up tunes.”

All in all, I was blown away by the people I met, the sounds I heard, the energy I felt. I saw firsthand how music connects people…and the Cali weather wasn’t too bad either. Truly, MKR

On My Mind…

I’m starting a new monthly series today called On My Mind.  Just a little run down, at the beginning of each month of well, what’s on my mind.  So kicking it off for November from top to bottom, left to right…

Scandal.  I’m obsessed with Scandal, and specifically Olivia Pope and her uber lady like dress.  Specifically I’m lusting over her love of leather gloves.  Mark & Graham has the most amazing and colorful selection and the best part is you can get them monogrammed.  I will be getting a few pairs this season.  So major.

2014.  I cannot believe 2014 is almost upon us, but it is, and I’m embracing it with a major kick butt and take no prisioners type attitude.  So many good things are in the wind for WOM, and I can’t wait to take you all along for the ride.

Starbucks Holiday Cups.  No brainer.  I live for the holidays, and the cups symbolize peppermint mochas, Christmas movies, and just good ol’ fashioned cheer.

Sleep.  I definitely don’t get enough of it, and I don’t see that changing anytime in the near future.  And while I can handle the need for 4 shots of espresso I cannot handle the bags that are appearing under my eyes as of late.  So I’m turning to all of you…any good creams, treatments, remedies?  Please share!

Cuyana.  I’m in total swoon mode over their simple, and chic aestethic.  I’ve got my eye on one of their totes currently…Santa do you hear me?

Bachelor Gulch.  The Mr. and I are planning our annual ski trip and thinking Bachelor Gulch is where we’ll be headed.  Skiing is the one place, and I really do mean the one place where I seem to be able to unplug and truly relax.  There’s just something about the skiing life style…the snow, the inability to check your phone, and well of course the apres ski that just feels like home.

Clark.  Will Addison get a sister?  I don’t know yet, but we’re leaning to yes.  If anyone is a 2 cavalier household please let me know how they get along with each other.

Healthcare Reform.  Whether you support it or not (and please don’t share below if you do or don’t as I really don’t want this to turn into a political debate) reform is upon us so please educate yourself on the matter.  I’ve found the best place to start is www.healthcare.gov and then look up your state’s healthcare reform site as most, if not all states have set up their own website.

So tell me, what’s on your mind this month?  TGIF Loves.  truly, MKR

Making Laundry Easy Again with Samsung

How the Samsung FlexWash + FlexDry has saved my clothes and more importantly saved me time
This post is in partnership with Samsung, a brand I love and adore. All opinions are 100% my own.

I, like most people, am not a fan of laundry.  It’s not the task of laundry per se, but rather the time laundry takes.  So when Samsung reached out about partnering together for their new, FlexWash + FlexDry machines  I was game.

A system equipped with two washers in one, and two dryers in one the Samsung FlexWash + FlexDry allows me to get twice as much laundry done at one time.  When hearing about the FlexWash + FlexDry I was sold with this feature alone; “just think of the time four machines will save me,” I thought.  But I couldn’t have imagined just how powerful and fast these machines truly are.  Not only can I do more laundry loads at once, but the washing and drying power is speedier than ever.  Before I would have to run my towels on 2-3 cycles to dry completely, but with the FlexDry it’s one and done.  Plus the wrinkle release button actually works.  No wrinkles! Because of this I’ve been able to cut down on my dry cleaning bill drastically!

So how does it work? The bottom compartments work like your standard machine. Featuring 7.5 cubic feet, it handles all of your standard laundry loads; towels, bedding, etc.  Meanwhile, up top, the Samsung FlexWash + FlexDry has innovative washing and drying zones.  This is perfect for delicate items, or if you just need to wash one or two things immediately.

Another feature I love; the steam sanitize button.  I’ve washed rugs, blankets, my husband’s athletic wear, kitchen towels, and all of my dog’s beds using this button and feel completely comfortable that the germs have been banished!

And speaking of features, if you’re like me and live and die by your smartphone the Samsung FlexWash + FlexDry is loT-enabled.  Simply put you have the ability to run, stop and monitor cycles right from your smartphone.  This is especially perfect for me since I tend to be a bit on the paranoid side when it comes to having any appliances running when I’m not home.

Lastly, I love that while they are major units, they don’t take up any more space than my previous washer and dryer.  This was a MUST for me since as you can see, I don’t have a very large laundry room.

I never thought I’d be writing a love letter about a washer and dryer, but the Samsung FlexWash + FlexDry has seriously changed my life.  Alright, maybe not my life but it sure has made it so much easier.  If I were you, I would definitely put this duo on your Christmas list.  Truly, MKR
