Hydrangea cupcakes & other noteworthy links, @waitingonmartha

1 // The team was busy busy with photoshoots and the debut of the Whispering Angel Gummy Bears), so these 29 unexpected ways to relax were looking good by the end of the week.

2 // Is the “athleisure” bubble about to burst?  The Cut poses the question, and now has us wondering just how many yoga pants is one too many.

3 // We’re feeling ALL THE FEELS with this dreamy southern plantation up for sale. #swoon

4 // These hydrangea cupcakes are simply stunning, and they would be so perfect for a baby or bridal shower!

5 // I always knew MKR was crazy about fall, but I experienced it first-hand this week.  Let’s just say she opened a box from Williams-Sonoma containing everything and anything pumpkin spice.

6 // I’m currently considering how to add bronze accents (like with pretty little bowl) into my apartment thanks to a little inspiration for easy fall updates on Domino

7// MKR is a big fan of her panama hat, and I love my weathered baseball hat when I’m running around town.  If you’re not a “hat person”, you may change your mind after reading this

8// I recently talked about getting better with small talk, and I can’t wait to get my hands on this book after reading about it on Tory Burch’s blog

9 // It’s no surprise to us that fashion designer Ulla Johnson‘s home is utterly breathtaking.  Step inside her wonderful home tour on Lark & Linen to see for yourself.

10 // Team WOM has a lot of travel coming up in September, and we’ll be watching a few of the best 50 travel films to get us in the jet-setting spirit.  Spot a favorite on the list?

11 // MKR is big on her new smudge sticks.  Verdict’s still out on their effects.

5 Amazing US Road Trip Ideas

Start making the playlist; we're hitting the road!

I’m a roadtripper. I’ve always thought that people are either roadtrippers or they’re not. Some people dread the thought of hopping in the car for a few hours, but not me.  I learned my love of a good road trip after piling into the car with my family for years growing up. With a few cross-country moves under our belt, and extended family in different states, we learned the ways of true Road Warriors.

With the music (gotta have a good playlist) the sights and the conversation (even the delirious rambling while trying to stay awake in those final hours), I think that the journey becomes just as enjoyable as the destination. A great road trip can offer up some pretty monumental memories, and it can help you cross off a few key items on the travel bucket list. Some of my favorite vacations of all time have involved a stretch on the open road, even if it involved a wrong turn or two along the way.  Because of this, I knew I was in for a treat on last summer’s WOM road trip around South Carolina (read about it here, here and here), and boy did it not disappoint!

So in honor of it being the start to road trip season, I’ve rounded up five of the best US road trip ideas for all of you adventurers out there (think the “Mother Road“, Skyline Drive and my personal favorite, the Pacific Coast Highway). Check the full list out in the slideshow above, but feel free to let me know your favorite, too, in the comments below!  Cheers, Kat

P.S. Looking for more road trip inspiration? Check out this list; I have my sights set on the Bayou Cruise through Louisiana next. xo

Pacific Coast Highway

Pacific Coast Highway

The Pacific Coast Highway, aka California's Route 1, is simply something you have to see in your lifetime. It stretches down the entire California coast, but the middle part is where you're in for a treat; catch Big Sur (a 90-mile stretch) and its picturesque views as you carve alongside seaside cliffs, stopping in at Carmel and Pebble Beach.

The "Mother Road"

The "Mother Road"

This legendary road on Route 66 can be traced from Illinois to California, and the full drive is not for the faint of heart (clocking in at 2,451 miles). But there's a reason this original historic two-lane highway is at the top of everyone's road trip lists; it's quintessential Americana. You'll find rusty neon signs, old motels and cafes, and touristy stops.

But perhaps the best part of the drive? The mountainous stretch west of the Grand Canyon to the Colorado River.

Overseas Highway

Overseas Highway

Strap in for this stretch of 120 miles on US Route 1 as you find your way from Miami to Key West through the string of sunny Florida Keys. Most of the drive is on a two-lane road, so be prepared to be a little patient as you glide through the pretty ocean views. And if you're on this road trip, hopefully it means you're on your way to a relaxing vacay!

Skyline Drive

Skyline Drive

This 105-mile stretch runs north and south along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park. It takes about three hours to travel the length of the park, but be ready for a slow ride. The speed limit is 35 mph (perfect for rolling down your windows and experiencing every curve and turn of this pretty drive!). Be sure to stop and stretch at a few of the 75 overlooks along the way, each offering a stunning view of the Shenandoah Valley to the west or the Piedmont to the east.

The Loneliest Road

The Loneliest Road

The Loneliest Road is the stuff road trip dreams are made of. As part of US Highway 50, this stretch looks like a barren dessert, but don't worry, there are plenty of gas stations and cafes along the way. If you really wanted to do it right, take this 3,200 trek from coast-to-coast, passing hundreds of timeworn towns and soaking up all of the US history you can find.

HP "Spread Joy" Google Chrome Book Giveaway

A few weeks ago my friends over at HP embarked on their Joy Caravan.  A 8 city tour across the states to spread joy, and technology, this Holiday season.  And lucky me they happened to stop in the A.  So on a rainy, and unseasonably hot day, I headed down to Centennial Park to check out all the new gadgets and spread some joy of my own.

HP isn’t playing this season.  Between the tablets, home systems, audio, and of course the Chrome Book there’s literally something for everyone on your list.  Personally I’m obsessed with the Google Chrome Book.  It’s perfect for my crazy, travel filled life.  With it’s ability to be online all of the time and ease of use I just throw it in my bag and go.  And because I was so in love HP gave me a Chrome Book ($299 value) to gift one of you this Holiday season!  So…you get a Chrome Book, you get a Chrome Book, you get a Chrome Book.  Okay well really only one lucky reader will get a Chrome Book but shouldn’t everyone feel like Oprah even for only a brief moment?  Legal mumbo jumbo below and Happy Monday Loves!  truly, MKR

P.S. Congrats to the winner, Taunya, of our VIETRI giveaway!

The legal mumbo jumbo...this giveaway is open to US residents and will run through Sunday the 15th with our winner announced Monday the 16th.  We’ll be running this all through Rafflecopter (below) which allows you to earn points for each item completed with a simple click of the button.  The more points you earn the more likely you are to win (and remember you probably already have entry points if you’re a regular reader of the blog).  This post and giveaway is sponsored by HP, but my thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
