Naturally, spring cleaning is on all of our minds right now here at WOM, and as we try to channel our inner Marie Kondo, we’re hoping to edit down our lives and organize everything once and for all. And you know what? I say that open shelving (even just looking at photos of it!) can help inspire you to do so. Now, now, before you roll your eyes, I can attest to the power of this personally; I completely overhauled my closet this week after seeing this photo alone. (Next step: order these.)
This idea of mine plays into the concept of taking better care of properly edited-down (read: consign or donate the unwanted stuff!) items, and displaying them for them to truly shine. This may sound silly, but I had an “ah ha” moment this week when I realized I could create the look of a clothing boutique in my own closet with all of the items I already own. And in turn, I’ll take better care of the items I love, and hopefully throttle back on my current wish list. Win-win, right?
Whether you have open shelving in your kitchen, living room, bathroom, closet (you lucky ducks!) or not, I think you’ll agree that all ten of these photos in the slideshow above make a solid case for simplifying your stash to achieve a well organized and curated home. And for the record, I don’t think the open shelving trend is going anywhere anytime soon, either. A proper #shelfie is a fantastic way to showcase the very items that make your home a home. Don’t be afraid of showing a little personality!
So what do you think about open shelving? What organization projects do you hope to tackle this spring? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below. Cheers, Kat
I wish I had a bigger kitchen to do open shelving. It’s such a nice look when it’s all monochromatic!
