What I’m Packing…Bachelor Gulch

bachelor gulch

Today is a happy day.  Why you ask?  Well from beside it being another day where I get to wake up and be with all of you, today is especially happy because it’s the day before I leave for Bachelor Gulch.  That’s right.  Tomorrow I’ll be swishing down the ski hill, drinking hot toddys, and disconnecting from the world.  I. CANNOT. WAIT.

But before I can enjoy happy hour on the mountain I have a few last minute boxes to check off my list.  Namely, packing.  Packing for a ski trip is always tough as there’s so much gear I need to take and since I’m an over-packer in general I always end up with about 3 checked bags.  Though truth be told I’ve learned to embrace my over-packing spirit and just roll with it.  So my Loves, here is what you’ll find in 1 of my 3 suitcases.  truly, MKR

  1. My new favorite Harding Lane throwback ski hat.  So cozy and warm, plus I love the old school vibe.  I’m VERY casual on the hill.
  2. Red’s sunnies.  Bold and fun, plus polarized which is a necessity for spring skiing.
  3. Flask to aid in chair lift warmth.
  4. Bobbi Brown beach body oil.  Yes it’s called beach body oil, but it’s the most amazing for dry skin.  Plus I love the smell of beach and suntan lotion no matter what the weather.
  5. Buddha necklace, because I need a little sparkle and shine.
  6. Madewell muscle tee.  The perfect casual throw on.
  7. The Goldfinch to read by the fire.
  8. Laceless sneaks.  The easiest thing to slip on after being in ski boots all day.
  9. Rifle Paper Travel Journal to capture the memories.
  10. Hot Toddy.  No explanation needed.
  11. Rebecca Minkoff for Frends headphones.  These come with interchangeable plates and a must for the plane and hill.
  12. Star sparkler wand to celebrate the Mr.’s birthday on Thursday!
  13. My signature pink lip.
  14. Bkr water bottle.  It’s all about hydration.

2014

If I’m being completely honest 2014 hasn’t started out the way I envisioned it.  There’s been no great jubilation around the promise of a fresh start.  No burst of motivation.  No fireworks-bursting-confetti-popping-horns-playing welcome.  2014 has been, well…nothing special.  In fact it’s been the opposite of special.  I’ve been sick!  Incapacitated.  Confined to my house, cancel our vacation, sinus infection sick.  And I never get sick.  So you see 2014 has been a tad on the lack luster side.

Well my Loves, that is about to change because my 2014 is starting now and I’ve got resolutions waiting to be fulfilled.  Resolutions like feeding my soul with travel (see my word for 2014 HERE).  Learning French.  Finally completing that calligraphy class I purchased last year.  Taking care of me again (I swear I’ve aged 5 years over 2013).  Building a better, more simplified and balanced life.   And organization just to name a few.  A resolution I know many of us share which I’ll be talking about tomorrow on the blog.

And while the new year may not have started like I had planned, as F. Scott said “…start whenever you want…there are no rules to this thing.”  So 2014 get ready, I’m coming for ya!  truly, MKR

P.S. I’d love to hear what resolutions you have made in the comments section below.

“GO”

Every year after the clock strikes midnight and the confetti is cleaned up I take some “me” time to reflect.  Reflect upon the past year.  The good, the bad, the successes, and of course the failures.  I write my resolutions, and pick my “word” for 2014.  For those that haven’t ever picked a word before your word is supposed to encompass a desire, a want, a goal that you hope comes to fruition in the new year.  Last year my word was connect.  And 2013 was definitely a year of connections.

How I choose my word is really more instinctual than anything else.  I simply grow quiet and go through THIS list writing down every word that speaks to me.  Then from those chosen words I start crossing each word off until only one remains.  What tends to happen is a theme begins to form.  An interconnection of words reveals itself.  And without even knowing it your left with what you, your soul, your life needs most.  Journey.  Seek.  Experience.  Explore.  Adventure.  Go.

These pictures are from a business trip I recently took to New Orleans.  I had very little time for anything other than work, but during the most perfect free afternoon I grabbed my camera and indulged in my favorite activity.  The activity of nothing.  There were no plans.  Just me, my camera and streets to wander.  I gazed at the architecture.  Read about New Orleans history.  Sipped wine at an outdoor cafe.  Listened to street artists play and entertain the tourists.  Ducked in and out of shops.  It was a perfect moment in time.

Times a funny thing isn’t it?  I thought a lot about time during my blog break.  Or rather moments.  The truth is life is short.  It’s fleeting.  It’s really a compilation of moments.  And what I realized was I’ll never have this moment again.  I will never be this age, in this life, with these people, in this exact space again.  And I want to take full advantage of that.  I want to hop on a plane with the Mr. and travel to destinations unknown.  I want to drive till we get lost.  I want to walk on streets I’ve never been and fall in love with cultures I’ve never experienced.  I want to be spontaneous.  I want to seek adventure.  I want to GO.  So GO I will.  Happy 2014 Loves!  truly, MKR

P.S.  If you’ve chosen a word for 2014 I’d love to know what it is in the comments section below.
