My Fall Beauty Refresh

Ultra Moisturizing and Renewing Beauty Buys for the Season
Filed Under > Beauty & Tutorials

beauty-nov

I’m the type of person that when I get busy and stressed, I let my skincare routine fall to the wayside.  That usually means breakouts, dark circles and fine lines creeping up.  Since fall is such a crucial time to get the skin hydrated and free of summer’s slough, I recently went on a little “beauty bender” and stocked up on a healthy stash of ultra hydrating, ultra renewing beauty buys.  I like to think of this recent beauty haul really as a response to getting my skin back on track; happy and healthy.

I decided to reinvest in my daily beauty routine a lot in part to a stock-pile with Fresh.  I had actually planned to try out just one or two of these all natural products (like this rose mask and this gentle cleanser), but before I knew it, I found myself with a cart FULL of this green beauty line.  I also couldn’t resist these gift sets (which will make great Christmas gifts!).  And last weekend, I got a sneak peek at One Love Organics’ newest product (a charcoal mask called “Pretty Pores”!) and I knew I was in for a treat.  It’s not included below (because it’s not on shelves yet), but stay tuned friends because the mask is GOOD.  It’s light, detoxifying yet not super dehydrating, and it’s easy to remove after you’re done.

But enough from me, read all about the details of each product below and see which call your name.  I’d love to hear your plans for your own fall beauty refresh, and if any of these will be gracing your counters too?!  Truly, MKR

Rose Mask

Fresh, $62

Shop Now >

Like I mentioned above, I recently went on a Fresh-bender.  This rose mask makes my skin feel ultra-hydrated and smooth. It has a cooling gel formula (that smells like roses) that works with cucumber extract and aloe vera to calm the skin.  And for my sensitive skin, this is a God-send!

Glycolic Skin Renewal Complex

Mario Badescu, $35

Shop Now >

I’ve shared this Mario Badescu cream before, and I still turn to it for a solid spot treatment when I break out.  With papaya extract and glycolic acid, it helps even my skin tone and help skin turnover when it’s looking a little dull. It’s very rich, so I like to use it sparingly and only when-needed. Great, great renewal cream

The Lip Scrub

Sara Happ, $24

Shop Now >

I picked up this special edition lip scrub at Create & Cultivate last month, and I can’t be caught without it now.  It tastes and smells like a Sprinkles cupcake, which is AMAZING and right up my alley. But most importantly, the lip scrub is packed with essential oils that hydrate and gently exfoliate my lips so I can keep the perfect pout. Aaand it’s paraben free, which is so important in my book!

Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask

Fresh, $92

Shop Now >

This perfecting mask is one of my favorites right now. A bit pricey, but so worth it. The cream has a lovely whipped consistency that feels ultra light on the face.  It’s cooling, smells amazing, and works to kill free radicals (we have the black tea to thank for that).  I’ve found that my fine lines do seem to have decreased, and I’ve enjoyed a mask a handful of times in the past few weeks. I mean really, who can say not a great face mask?!

Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer

IT Cosmetics

Shop Now >

So I’m really pleased with the coverage of IT Cosmetics’ Bye Bye Foundation.  You know I’m partial to my snail repair BB cream, so it takes a lot to get me to say that.  At this price point, I think this tinted moisturizer is definitely worth trying.  And if your skin is like mine, it needs a switch-up sometimes between foundation and bb creams throughout the year.  This foundation will be mine for fall.

Hello Lashes Mascara

IT Cosmetics, $24

Shop Now >

I’m always open to trying new mascaras, and this one does not disappoint. I received it in my IT Cosmetics set (ordered straight from the infomercial…I was hooked!). It adds great volume to my lashes, making them look longer and fuller. I love that it applies evenly too; it doesn’t clump or break off.

3 in 1 Microneedle Dermaroller

Megi Beauty

Shop Now >

microneedle dermaroller is the biggest game-changer in my routine. I struggle with acne scarring and fine lines, and this tool is key in improving my skin’s look and feel.  I use mine in two ways; I use it lightly before applying makeup before a big event.  I gently roll the dermaroller around my face once, and swear it helps plump up the collagen and hide my fine lines.  Secondly, I use it once a week with a bit more force; I treat my entire face at night to help the skin cells turnover to keep things fresh and renewed.

Countertime Rejuvenating Cream

Beautycounter, $75

Shop Now >

I’ve been a big Beautycounter fan for years, and its Countertime Collection is so, SO strong.  The Rejuvenating Cream (formerly known as Restorative Night Cream) is incredibly light, but it locks in the much-needed moisture…all while I’m asleep.  It simply feels wonderful on my face, and it’s nontoxic so I can feel great about using it every night.

Nourishing Cream

NERD Skincare, $95

Shop Now >

My skin could be considered “acne prone” when I’m stressed, alright (and hello, that’s my entire fall), so this nourishing cream is right up my alley. It’s by a great small skincare company that approaches acne differently, and for that I love them. In the past I have used their face masks which are absolutely incredible.

This cream feels extremely hydrating upon application, making my skin feel soft and supple.  I also really appreciate that it helps repair skin tone and damage from previous blemishes and scarring. I like to use this cream whenever my skin is irritated and needs some extra TLC.

Rose Floral Toner

Fresh, $15

Shop Now >

I’ve started using this floral toner after I wash my face with the soy cleanser. It’s a cooling, balancing formula that seems to help even my overall skin tone with regular use. Its scent is rose, but it’s not overpowering like many can be.

Soy Face Cleanser

Fresh, $15

Shop Now >

I wash my face both day and night, but I don’t want to use a cleanser with harsh salicylic acid twice a day. So this gentle soy cleanser is a great compliment to my beauty routine; I use it every morning in the shower to wash my face. I love it because it doesn’t leave my skin too dry afterwards like some cleansers do. I feel it cleanses AND tones too, which is nice to see.

Bye Bye Concealer

IT Cosmetics, $24.99

Shop Now >

I LOVE this concealer by IT Cosmetics. I literally bought it straight from the infomercial.  I use it solely as a spot concealer on my face for breakouts and never need to reapply during the day or worry about it. It’s truly a full-coverage concealer that doesn’t look too cakey by putting years on your face.

Umbrian Clay Mattifying Exfoliant

Fresh, $33

Shop Now >

In order to slough off summer skin, I’m using this great exfoliant by Fresh. It gentle removes dead skin, but also works to purify and balance as it goes.  That’s incredibly important to me during this transitional season so that my skin stays hydrated and bright, ready for me to take on the crisp, dry air.

Vitality Lip Flush 4-in-1 Reviver Lipstick Stain

IT Cosmetics, $20

Shop Now >

This nourishing lipstick is my new best friend. It’s another great find by IT Cosmetics, and it’s doing wonders for my lips under my signature pink pout.  It’s one of the first lipsticks that I’ve found that offer the benefits of a lip balm (anti-aging, hydrating and conditioning) but actually has a long-lasting color too.

13 Capes & Ponchos We Love

Affordable Ponchos & Stylish Cape Silhouettes at All Price Points
Filed Under > Having a Moment

blog-cape3

Ponchos are the kinds of pieces in my closet that I reach for time and time again as soon as the temps drop.  They’re a sure thing; they’re cozy, on-trend, and they have that ability to elevate even the most basic of outfits when I’m rushing out the door to grab drinks with friends.  I love that finding affordable ponchos is easy too…I don’t have to break the bank to nail the look.

Below, I’ve rounded up more than a dozen styles of ponchos and capes at ALL price points. If you’re on the fence with wearing ponchos or capes, some great under-$100 options are the ones to note. (This plaid one may be the best of the affordable ponchos I’ve found.)  But if you know you love ponchos and capes like I do, and you’re looking to invest in a timeless cape silhouette, you’ll probably be just as smitten with this Ted Baker London camel cape, and of course this Burberry beauty (a girl can dream, right?!).  Cheers, Kat

I love this plaid poncho (and its low price tag of only $39!). I think it’s a great find at a fraction of the price of similar styles. It’s lightweight and soft, making it the perfect everyday piece.  I’d go so far as to say that it’s very likely to turn into favorite part of your cold-weather uniform.

We found it: a cozy sweater that you’ll want to wear every. single. day.  Made of wool, cotton and alpaca in a poncho-style silhouette, it’s the coziest of cozy options that’s still nice enough to wear out of the house.  The chunky ribbed collar can also be removed, making it extremely versatile.

Colorblock Cape

BCBG, $78

This style is simply stunning. There’s no denying that this trench cape coat by Burberry is a timeless investment piece (if you can stomach the price tag). Just remind yourself that you’ll have it for years and years to come; it’ll never go out of style. I especially love its short sleeves and classic camel coloring…it has the ability to elevate even the most simple winter outfits.

Striped Merino Wool Wrap

Rag & Bone, $350

Shop Now >

I have all the heart eyes for this beautiful merino wool wrap by Rag & Bone. I don’t know if I can justify the price point just yet, but I know that it would be a piece I’d reach for all season long.  The muted color palette and stripes are great cold-weather neutrals, and the merino wool promises a cozy, warm fit.

In-Check Turtleneck Poncho

Michael Stars, $88

Shop Now >

This easy grey poncho is another great buy under $100. I’d encourage this piece to anyone who’s on the fence for the poncho & cape trend…it’s a simple basic that goes with just about everything, while its asymmetrical hem and sharp black in-check detail adds interest. It would look fantastic with an all black get-up, don’t you think?

Ribbed Cashmere Poncho

Halogen, $248

Shop Now >

A gorgeous wardrobe essential, this oatmeal-colored ribbed poncho will be worn on repeat. Though it is a bit boxy, it’s a super cozy style that drapes in the most flattering way over your favorite shirt or blouse. And since it’s made of 100% cashmere, you know it’s a good buy.

'Varsity' Stripe Fringe Wrap

Rag & Bone, $395

Shop Now >

Here’s another beautiful wrap by Rag & Bone this year; it’s easy to see that this fringe rendition will make for a fool-proof classic this fall. It’s made of 100% wool, and sports a retro-varsity style pattern.

ASOS Color Block Cape

Asos, $61

Shop Now >

Asos for the win for a colorblock cape that looks a lot more expensive than it is (it’s only $61!). It feels like wool (it’s actually a poly-viscose blend), and has faux leather trim detailing. The oversized fit allows it to drape over the body to create the classic cape silhouette. I think this would make a great option for a festive outdoor event this fall!

Lightweight Dual Stripe Poncho

GAP, $99.99

Shop Now >

Gap gives us a nice, soft lightweight stripe poncho (that happens to be on sale!). It hits a bit lower than the rest of today’s picks, reaching the mid-thigh with the sides longer than the rest.

Yuma Woven Poncho

Amuse Society, $44

Shop Now >

I just picked up this beautiful woven poncho…I love its boho-inspired details and style.  It’s a cotton-blend, allowing some wears this fall before it gets too cold. I went ahead and ordered a size down (I have a hard time with sizing on Revolve and I’m crossing my fingers that it’ll be a good move).

The Ten Best Leather (& Faux Leather) Jackets At Every Price Point

Everything You Need To Know For Choosing The Best Leather Jacket
Filed Under > Having a Moment

The best leather jackets at all price points, @waitingonmartha

A good leather jacket is what I consider one of those “Forever Pieces” in any wardrobe.  I’ve gushed about my all-time favorite black moto jacket (pictured above) here on the blog before, and nothing has changed. I throw it on with my current favorite boyfriend jeans any day of the week, and I also love to pair it with a dress to add a little edge.

And as you know, I’ve added a navy leather jacket to the rotation, which is just as good (if not better) than I had dreamed it up to be.  I have a feeling my leather collection will only continue to grow (I’m basically obsessed).  But since I turn to these pieces time and time again when getting dressed, so I know it’s worth it.

Maybe the most pleasant surprise of all this fall, though, is that the faux, vegan leather jacket options seem to be just as good.  Anyone else notice that too?  I picked up a killer faux one at Zara recently, and Kat loves hers from Abercrombie & Fitch (!). It’s great news for all of us who don’t want to break the bank and feel guilty about adding to our growing stash, whether it’s the first or fifth in the collection.  Find our top picks for leather jackets at any price point in the list below, and tell us: have you found your go-to leather jacket?!  Truly, MKR

Cargo Leather Biker Jacket

AllSaints, $540

Shop Now >

I’ve had this lamb skin leather jacket for years, and I know I’ll have it for a years to come.  The tanned leather gives it an incredibly comfortable fit, relaxed enough for both everyday wear and nights out on the town. I especially love the quilted moto detailing that gives this jacket its edge.  I sized up for a looser fit, so I suggest considering what size will ensure it’s a “Forever Piece” for you too.

Zip Front Leather Biker Jacket

Bernardo, $259.90

Shop Now >

With long sleeves, a cinched waist and stand collar, this camel leather biker jacket is ready-to-wear cool.  It’s a steal, too, for genuine leather at an affordable price.  When the price tag goes down, typically the comfort (read: movability) does too.  But that’s not the case with this jacket; it has knit under-sleeve panels that really let you move. The camel color is classic, and it’s one you’ll be pairing with all your favorite #OOTDs this season and the next.

Faux Leather Biker Jacket

Abercrombie & Fitch, $140

Shop Now >

I know what you’re thinking, Abercrombie & Fitch hasn’t been cool since junior high.  But this faux leather jacket makes a strong case for you to reconsider.  Kat recently snagged this find on crazy discount ($70) and has received dozens of compliments on it after only two wears.  The jacket’s faux leather is great imitation quality, and it feels soft and comfortable to wear (most faux leathers can feel a bit waxy and stiff, so be sure to try on before settling on your purchase). A&F FTW, friends.

Atkinson Leather Biker Jacket

AllSaints, $540

Shop Now >

Another classic style from AllSaints, this soft lambskin jacket is made for a fitted look. Zip cuffs and buckle detailing add interest, while the stand collar gives it a sharp, sporty feel.  It’s available in “Battle Brown” and “Slate Blue”, two unique colors that will be sure to set you apart from the rest.  And again, you know you’re buying a “Forever Piece” when it’s coming from AllSaints.

Biker Jacket

H&M, $49.99

Shop Now >

This fitted biker jacket from H&M has soft faux leather with the same quilted details you’ll find on jackets triple and quadruple its price.  Though, emphasis on faux; the thing can be machine washed (crazy, I know)!  This jacket is a great option for someone looking to nail the moto look without breaking the bank, or someone simply wanting to add another piece to their growing collection of jackets.  Keep in mind that the material will wear a bit stiffer than real leather.

Washed Leather Motocycle Jacket

Madewell, $495

Shop Now >

This washed leather jacket is the perfect “throw-on-and-go style”, making it one of our top picks of the bunch; it reminds me a lot of the AllSaints options with a smaller price tag. The jacket is super soft, as it’s been crafted from “rose-petal-soft and gently textured leather” and cut to perfection. It gives the feeling of being perfectly worn-in…which is priceless in my book.

'Breck' Faux Leather Moto Jacket

Cupcakes & Cashmere, $86.98

Shop Now >

This faux leather jacket in “Bone” is a steal for the price (marked down from $145).  The soft color paired with the moto detailing and sharp shoulders creates the perfect juxtaposition between feminine and edgy.  Keep in mind, however, that this style is boxy – so try it on in-store if you can. The sleeves fit long, while the torso is a bit shorter than pictured.  The jacket is also available in a matted black.

Quilted Leather Moto Jacket

TREASURE&BOND, $299

Shop Now >

This beautiful quilted moto jacket nails the leather look.  Soft, luxurious real leather, cool details with a timeless finish and pretty affordable price (for a “Forever Piece”).  This jacket from Nordstrom was our top pick for a middle-of-the-line option that doesn’t sacrifice style or quality. The looser fit allows for you to move throughout your day and night, all while looking effortlessly cool.

Collection Leather Motorcycle Jacket

J.Crew, $550

Shop Now >

I finally called this navy leather jacket mine this year, as I shared in this post on the blog. I am absolutely obsessed with the rich, buttery leather in cool navy, and I love the oversized lapel detail.  The fit is great too; a classic cut that’s not too tight and not too loose.  I sized up a size to ensure that it can be worn on top of sweaters and thick shirts. The jacket is also available in “Moroccan Sand” and Black.

P.S. It’s on sale right now (and if not, it will be again!) so be sure to snag it at 30% off while you can.

'Easy Rider' Faux Leather Moto Jacket

$98

Shop Now >

We found it: a pebbled faux leather jacket that looks good with just about everything. This slim-cut jacket comes in four on-trend colors (good luck trying to decide on one). The lapels snap down, helping the jacket drape effortlessly as you rock it all day long. This is an ideal option for someone looking to add a unique color to their leather and faux leather collection. And under $100, the price cannot be beat!
