I’m a little crazy about anything with fringe, pom pom and tassels right now. And with a beach vacation and friends’ destination wedding in a few short weeks, I’m stocking up on all of the above to ensure that I show up in style. Our recent Etsy roundups (here, here and here) have proven to me that the site has quite the stash of handmade hidden gems. So this time I turned to Etsy again, looking specifically for fun statement pieces perfect for my beach vacation. I was thrilled to recently find these Etsy fringe earrings, this woven clutch and these made-to-order cutoff vintage Levi’s. Check out the slideshow above to find more affordable, handmade and unique vacation essentials. Cheers, Kat

Dreamy Kimono Dress ($75)
This flowy kimono dress was just MADE for a leisurely day on the beach.
Whether you're going into town one day, going on a bike ride or walking the boardwalk, these vintage cutoffs are the perfect pair. They're made-to-order so they will fit like a glove!
Culottes sure aren’t new to the fashion scene. The resurfaced culotte trend has been flitting around for what—the past two years?—and it’s been spotted during fashion weeks around the globe by models and style bloggers. They look cool enough, but now I’m joining the rest of you in wondering just really how to wear culottes, IRL (in real life)?!
I was a bit skeptical about the trend until recently, thinking it was too far-fetched for a date night, happy hour or work function. The look seemed like it was straight off the runway (not in the good sense), and something I had no interest in exploring in my own wardrobe.
But then I saw how it was done. How to wear culottes. And wear them WELL. I’ve included several of the inspiring images in the slideshow above; I think you’ll agree with me that culottes can be considered the fashionista’s modern-day suit pant…that’s actually comfortable to wear. Many resemble a midi skirt more often than pants, and they look even cooler than a midi skirt does! The pants make such a statement that they rarely need a whole lot of other details going on…they look best when paired with a simple top and layered with other staple, quality pieces. The result is an utterly chic, easy European look that’s smart and suitable for just about any event you have on the books. Oh and they’re pretty much all-season appropriate too (I love this pair for summer and can only dream of this pair for early fall).
Scroll through the slideshow above by clicking on the image above. And tell me, have you tried out this trend? Or do you still wonder how to wear culottes, too? Cheers, Kat
P.S. I think a brand that has single-handedly shaped the culottes trend is Tibi; they’re making culottes a totally doable, yet fashion-forward move. Nordstrom and The Outnet often offer these pieces at a great discount too. xo

Black leather culottes
First up: leather culottes. They prove to be the epitome of effortless and cool when paired with a black top and nude heel.
A culottes jumpsuit is an instant way to pull together a fashion-forward outfit in one sweep. This one from Tibi is beautifully made and will transcend seasons.
Easy denim culottes give an everyday look a more elevated feel - making it an outfit that will take you from farmers market to drinks with a good high-heel.
I’m turning into a sap in my old age. Some of my most prized possessions right now have recently been handed down to me, and I cherish the stories behind them just as much as the item itself. Luckily my mom is as sentimental as I am, and I have several special family heirlooms that I can hold onto and share with my future family someday.
Of course, heirloom items can be old AND new, and you can start collecting items today to share with future generations someday. Many people immediately assume heirlooms are limited to fine jewelry. But I think a piece worth handing down can be anything well-loved and tied to a special memory. It can be a timeless piece of furniture like a cupboard with character, a signature wardrobe piece like an exquisite evening clutch or maybe a great set of luggage (this one is to-die-for….a girl can dream, right?!), or even a collection of love letters from long ago. The possibilities are endless, and by taking the time to cherish and take care of something special now, you can have something meaningful to pass on later.
Click through the slideshow above to find up a few ideas for heirloom gift ideas. I’d love to hear what you hold special from the past, and what you hope to share later down the road. I think you’ll agree that the memories and life that these items symbolize are all worth celebrating! Cheers, Kat

Timeless Furniture
My mom has a beautiful pine jelly cupboard, passed down from my great aunt, that I hope to have someday. A great piece with good bones will transcend generations to come, and is a nice idea for an investment in the home.
Signature pieces like a designer handbag, polished accessories and favorite fashion staples can be some of the most enjoyed heirlooms of all, because all trends come back around! Consider even holding onto closet favorites such as statement coats and beloved dresses...the memories and stories tied with them are priceless.
Travel can open up a world of once-in-a-lifetime memories, and the souvenirs (big and small) collected on trips are great keepsakes. I recently found a handful of old matchboxes that my grandparents collected from hotels in Europe when they were younger, and they're so neat!
These are easy; interesting objets make a home that much more a reflection of you, and make perfect gifts to give to others later. Now that I think about it, I admit I may have a bit too many of these!
Lastly, jewelry makes the loveliest of heirloom gifts, and quality pieces can tie together generations of families. I have a beautiful opal ring, handed down to me on my eighteenth birthday by my mom, who also received it when she turned eighteen years old. The ring box may also be my favorite part; it's an aged, detailed navy blue box with crushed velvet...swoon!
