It’s always surprised me that the entryway is all too often overlooked when styling one’s home.  Being the first opportunity to impress guests, your entry way is a peek into your personal style and ultimately the place that welcomes you home, it becomes a pivotal space in your home’s design, and should be treated as such.

While I’ve welcomed a myriad of colors, prints and textiles into my entryway, I opted to keep the walls crisp with just a hint of purple/grey by using Behr’s Lilac Mist and bright white trim.  By doing so, I can maximize the natural light and let the rest of the vibrant decor shine.

Influences from far away lands— a feather juju hat, framed tribal garments, and ginger jars, and collected over the years and my deep crimson vintage Turkish rug—are bold, yet effortless, accents that work together to extend the personality of the rest of our home throughout the foyer.

An oversized mirror, bamboo chairs and small rattan stool are just as functional as they are stylish; a perfect time to touch up my pink pout, and a helpful place to set my purse. The chandelier and horse lamp serve as the “jewelry” of the space.  Lighting is my favorite way to infuse fun and personality into any space.  And I can’t talk about my entryway without addressing our leopard stair runner.  Leopard has been and always will be a neutral in my mind, so I was never fearful about making such a bold choice as I knew it would blend with everything. And I’m currently obsessing over the idea of an antelope stair runner as well.

I know not every entryway lends itself to large statements and grand decor due to size. But with a carefully-curated collection of prints and designs, even the smallest of entryways can open up the home.  Truly, MKR

Everything You Need On Your Nightstand

More often than not, I find myself working in bed into all hours of the night.  And as you know, I take the definition of “my space” very seriously, so having a proper nightstand for those #GSD, late-night hours is no exception.  Combining form and function, my nightstand houses all of my must-haves within arm’s reach, while still holding to the rest of the bedroom’s design.  So whether you’re burning the midnight oil or starting your week off on a fresh start, enjoy your space with these seven nightstand essentials. Truly, MKR

No. One.  A great lamp.  This one from Times Two Design is a great example of a lamp that ties the room together, while offering the most perfect subtle pop of gold.  Not to mention, the jagged quartz is just glam enough to balance out the rustic feel of the wood nightstand.

No. Two.  A carafe for water.  Using a carafe eliminates any unsightly plastic bottles, while allowing me to have plenty of water close by without running up and downstairs to the kitchen.

No. Three.  Fresh flowers.  While I know fresh flowers can be a splurge, they are worth every penny because of the pure joy they bring me.  This extra touch can easily boost your mood and bring a little more pretty to the start (and end) of your day.  To save money choose flowers that will naturally last longer like hydrangeas, tulips, and wild flowers.  Make sure to clip the bottoms and change the water daily to lengthen their life.

No. Four.  A candle.  And this candle not only smells heavenly, it can be enjoyed long after its burning days are done holding makeup brushes on a vanity, pens and pencils on a desk, etc.

No. Five.  Notebooks.  You never know when inspiration will strike, and since I’m always working in bed, that happens a lot bedside.  These notebooks from Minnie & Emma are the perfect size, and I keep my drawer stocked and ready to go.

No. Six.  A bowl full of necessities.  At any given time, I’ll reach for one of the following: chapstick, hand cream, Advil or essential oils.  My favorite bowl serves as a pretty place to store it all.

No. Seven.  Trinket tray.  I hate sleeping in any jewelry, so I need a place to corral it all and keep it safe.  These bestselling trays are the perfect size to do just that.

Gallery wall ideas

The final reveal for the One Room Challenge unveiled a pretty major gallery wall with bright and funky vibes in the upstairs loft.  And we can agree that with 24 total pieces and even some 3D items, this particular wall is not one for the faint of heart.  I mixed and matched classic photographs and one-of-a-kind paintings by GRAY MALIN, BRITT BASSMINTED, AND SALLY KING BENEDICT to tie in a personal feel to this vibrant, quirky room and absolutely loved the outcome.  After creating this gallery wall, I can assure you that whether you’re designing one of this caliber or of a smaller scale, creating a collected and personal feel is easier than you think. The beauty of a gallery wall is that it can grow and evolve as you continue to find and add new pieces, so don’t get too hung up on making mistakes.  And since we received so much feedback and inquiries about the wall, I wanted to share my quick and easy five gallery wall ideas for you all today.  Simply click through the slideshow above to read more.  Truly, MKR
