7 Chic Ideas for Decorating with Baskets

Easy, Stylish Organization Solutions FTW
Filed Under > Ideas & Inspiration

We’ve read how MKR raves about using baskets as a chic storage solution in the laundry room and the linen closet.  Since then, decorating with baskets has become one of my favorite ways to stay organized around the house, too.  I’ve turned to decorating with baskets as a way to corral necessities and hide clutter in a breeze.  I’ve also come to appreciate how baskets instantly add warmth, texture and interest to any room.

The possibilities for decorating with baskets are truly endless; I like to stow magazines in a shallow sisal basket next to my desk, I keep rolled-up towels in a classic rattan basket next to my tub, I corral cleaning supplies in a basket on the dryer, and I tote laundry across the house in this handwoven seagrass basket (brand new to the Shop!). Click through the slideshow above to get more inspiration on decorating with baskets at home, too!  Cheers, Kat

5 Easy Home Decor Ideas for a Designer-Inspired Home

Curating a Stylish Home That's Personal (and Affordable) Is Easier than You Think
Filed Under > Ideas & Inspiration

A few weeks ago, I moved across town into an expansive townhouse with two of my best friends as roommates. The kicker though? I went from a modest 1,012-square-feet apartment to a (what I feel is) whopping 2,200.  Let’s just say we have some room to fill.  But since we’re all on reasonable budgets and keep reminding ourselves that this isn’t our “Forever Home,” we’re not making any drastic plans for the space.

The fun part about all of this though, is the challenge to piece together a stylish home that still has that curated personal touch…without doing too much damage to our budding bank accounts.  Luckily I stare at a lot of gorgeous interiors all day to cull five easy home decor ideas to make our home have that designer feel. I’ve also been taking lots of notes on perfecting the art of the shelfie and styling a designer coffee table

As you’ll see in the slideshow above, it’s very doable to do it all without breaking the bank.  By focusing on five easy styling projects, we’ll be well on our way to completing our new abode, and just in time for us to host my birthday dinner!  Click on the image above to see my go-to resources for pulling it all together.  Cheers, Kat

CURATE & EDIT THE STACK

CURATE & EDIT THE STACK

IT'S EASY TO RECOGNIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF A GREAT STACK OF CURATED COFFEE TABLE BOOKS WHEN STYLING A COFFEE TABLE... JUST LOOK AT ANY DESIGNER LIVING ROOM. BUT THE KEY STEP IS THE EDITING. THINK ABOUT HOW YOU CAN GROUP CORRESPONDING COLORS AND THEMES, BUT REMEMBER TO PARE DOWN YOUR COLLECTION OFTEN AND SWAP SELECTIONS OUT FREQUENTLY TO KEEP THE SPACE REFRESHED AND INTERESTING.

BUT IF YOU'RE REALLY LUCKY, YOU CAN PLACE THE WINNING BID ON VINTAGE PERSIAN RUGS FOUND ON THE ONLINE ESTATE SALE SITE, EVERYTHING BUT THE HOUSE. JUST KEEP YOUR SEARCH RELATIVELY CLOSE TO HOME, SHIPPING THOSE GUYS IS PRICEY!

ONE LAST THING: CHECK OUT OKL'S GUIDE TO PICKING THE RIGHT RUG SIZE BEFORE YOU PULL THE TRIGGER.

OPT FOR BETTER LIGHTING

NOTHING SEEMS MORE IMPERSONAL TO ME THAN A FLUORESCENT OVERHEAD LIGHT. CONSIDER STUNNING CUSTOMIZED LIGHTING OPTIONS SUCH AS A FLOOR LAMP, PENDANT OR CHANDELIER TO LIGHT UP THE SPACE.

BUT AS YOU'LL QUICKLY NOTE, LIGHT FIXTURES GET EXPENSIVE FAST, SO I LOVED SEEING THIS ROUNDUP OF AMAZING ETSY LIGHTING ON ELEMENTS OF STYLE THIS WEEK...A LITTLE MORE IN MY LEAGUE.

The Must-Have Piece Every Home Should Have

Ottomans, Stools and Poufs Prove to be the Perfect Transitional Accent
Filed Under > Ideas & Inspiration

Ottomans, poufs and garden stools are quite the rage among design influencers, and for good reason.  It can be agreed that these small-scale decor accents effortlessly build visual interest in any room, and with obtainable price tags, they’re nestling into warm, inviting living spaces everywhere. The possibilities are truly endless in a myriad of colors, shapes, sizes and textures as they offer added surface area for styled vignettes and additional, unexpected seating.  But maybe the greatest part about it all?  You can transition the piece to another room when you’re craving an easy refresh.  And since we’re always looking for pieces that are just as stylish as they are functional, decorative ottomans, floor poufs and stools quickly earn a spot at the top of all of our home decor wish lists.

These small-scale design accents aren’t necessarily new to our scene. As you may remember, the two Cecil Poufs spotted in MKR’s One Room Challenge 2015 Final Reveal (pictured above) really stole the show, and proved that floor poufs pack a punch that’s anything but small.  Once considered mostly a bohemian decor accent, floor poufs and the like can now be found in many contemporary rooms with smart details and styles that are anything but beatnik.

What do you think about incorporating these imaginative pieces in your home?  Quite the perfect way to feather your nest, don’t you think?  Click through the slideshow above to find design and styling inspiration, along with our favorite finds!  Cheers, Kat
