You know those days that are just the. best. days? The ones when you stop to slow down and ones you know you’ll always cherish?  That was our recent afternoon spent with Carrie Morey, founder of Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit here in Atlanta and Callie’s Charleston Biscuits.  The team was lucky enough to get an insider’s peek into the magic that is Carrie’s homemade, hot little biscuits (and believe me, they were soooo good).  We were welcomed into the Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit kitchen to learn the secrets behind the tender, buttery, made-by-hand biscuits by Carrie’s mother, Callie, that have received press from Saveur, Food & Wine, Southern Living, The New York Times and Oprah (just to name a few).

The team arrived ready to learn (and get their hands dirty), donned in our gorgeous new Waiting on Martha team aprons by Oatmeal Lace. We learned that baking the best homemade biscuits is really all about a few good, simple ingredients (apparently you shouldn’t even dream of making biscuits with any type of flour but White Lily), and of course patience for the steps that can only be taught by a loving hand.

As we waited for our buttermilk and shortcake biscuits to bake, we chatted with Carrie and could see how biscuits, truly an iconic Southern staple, can be done SO many different ways. We happily taste-tested several unique (and irresistible) combinations from Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit menu, from warm grits in a sharp cheddar biscuit bowl to sweet shortcake biscuits with warm cinnamon butter and a homemade chocolate pecan poptart. We kept joking that she’d have to roll us out of there! Everything we tasted was just so good.

A big thank you to Carrie and team for welcoming us into their kitchen for a little biscuit bootcamp and quality team bonding.  I know we’ll be talking about this bake sesh for years to come!  Truly, MKR

P.S. If you’re craving biscuits now, but can’t make it to Atlanta or Charleston anytime soon, don’t fret; Callie’s Hot Little Biscuits can be found at all of these retailers across the country AND they ship nationwide! xo

3 Days At The Southern C Summit + We’re Giving Away A Seat At Our June Social Media Intensive

A Recap of Another Amazing Southern C Summitt And A Chance To Win A Seat At Our Upcoming Social Media Intensive

We’re back from The Southern C Summit and feeling as re-energized as ever.  Like in previous years, I attended the engaging conference for creative entrepreneurs and left with ALL the feels. I walked away with a renewed sense of purpose, SO much excitement over seeing old friends and meeting new…and big plans for the next few months.  And of course, Charleston wooed me once again.  I don’t think I’ll ever, ever grow tired of Charleston’s soft, pretty pastels, its charming cobblestone streets and the cascading window boxes worthy of magazine covers.

I knew we were in for a treat with this year’s Summit lineup, but Cheri, Whitney & Team really blew us away this year. We set up camp at The American Theater and William Aiken House, both beautiful PPHG venues, for three days of informative and inspiring sessions with some of our favorites: Eddie Ross, Kimberley Schlegel Whitman, Libbie Summers, Chassity, Grace, LizCaroline, the Leapfrog PR ladies and so many more. The space was, of course, stunning thanks to Vine Garden Market, Beachview Event Rentals and BMA at Home.

During the week, we had the pleasure of dining next to friends new and old. Wednesday’s dinner by The Bad Bitches at Fritz Porter on Wednesday night was a magical evening, and a result of a true dream team. The fare from Grow Food Carolina was right up my alley: quintessential farm-to-table (I’m talking it was in the ground no more than 24 hours before our plates!) and the tablescape by Bellafare, Ooh Events and Peace Love Flowers with touches by Minted, Rebecca Atwood, Snowe Home and Suite One Studio was simply stunning. And Thursday night’s dinner at Tara Guerard‘s place…well it took my breath away. Tara showed us all how it’s done; setting the table for nearly 30 of us beneath the canopied light for a wonderful last night alongside some of the industry’s best.

I, of course, enjoyed a glass or two (or five) of wine Thursday evening with my keynote session on social media behind me…ha! But all jokes aside, Thursday’s session was fantastic; Kat live-Periscoped for everyone at home who couldn’t make it to Charleston for The Summit, and most importantly we announced our upcoming Social Media Intensive, which I absolutely cannot wait to host here in Atlanta in June.

After past requests we’ve been trying to figure out how we could make a social media intensive happen, so when the opportunity to team up with The Southern C came about it was a no brainer.  This all-day session at ADAC will be a deep-dive into the nitty-gritty of each social media platform with attendees being put to work (computers required) diving into each platform in real time.  With two different tailored tracks, attendees will leave with a notebook full of best practices, be able to ask questions pertinent to their brand and business, and will walk away with plenty of practical takeaways.  Since we’re keeping things intimate, seats are very limited, and if you haven’t already secured your spot you’ll want to do so ASAP.  And we hope you’ll be joining us the night before at Steve McKenzie’s for a fabulous cocktail hour…more details to come!

We’re releasing the last tickets to our readers here today, which can be bought here.  And because I’d love for everyone to have a chance of coming, we’re giving away one ticket in the widget below!  Truly, MKR

P.S. And if it could get any better…the next Summit is to be held on beautiful Sea Island in February 2017. Who’s coming?! xo

10 Great Etsy Finds To Put On Your Radar

10 Reasons You're Going to Want to Visit Etsy ASAP
Filed Under > Worth Noting

Thanks to Chassity‘s great tips on a few things to consider when starting an art collection last week, I’m officially on the Etsy train (and this pretty print she shared is a new favorite).  I recently fell down a rabbit hole looking at amazing abstract art (with plenty of affordable prints) on the site from the likes of Hayley Mitchell, Lola Donahue & many others.  And THEN I discovered so much other goodness and I know I probably haven’t even scraped the surface yet.

I have a million birthdays, housewarmings and engagements coming up soon, and I’m always on the lookout for inspiring sources for gifts. And for the showers I’m planning to help throw, I’m already eyeing a few handmade touches like these gorgeous wood laser cut name tags that I know will be a huge hit. I’ve gone ahead and rounded up ten of my most recent Etsy finds in the slideshow above…but do tell me what else you’ve found!  Cheers, Kat
