Bedroom vignette with affordable art from Etsy | waitingonmartha.comI’ve started to develop a love affair with art.  With a Gray Malin piece and my first piece of original abstract art to my name, my interest in an art collection has only grown. But with my enthusiasm to purchase new art, I’ve also come to realize that an art collection can quickly become expensive (maybe an understatement) and the whole process can be a bit intimidating.

So many stunning interiors make a case for great art, and my favorite part is that many show us how easily you can balance the high-and-low when it comes to original pieces and prints.  Thanks to my favorite bloggers and of course Pinterest, I’ve discovered new artists near and far, and many on affordable sites like Minted and Etsy.  A great source of art inspiration for me personally is Chassity Evans.  She’s the voice behind the popular lifestyle blog Look Linger Love (and one of my favorite daily reads). I knew Chassity would be a great person to tap for a little insight on what to consider when starting your own art collection in the home.  Catch her easy tips below, and tell me your favorite sources for great art!  Cheers, Kat

1. Collect what you love. I’ve always been drawn to drawings of the female body and my collection shows it.

2. Get your kids interested in art! Last summer I was looking for a large piece for my son Fletcher’s bedroom. I narrowed down a few favorite pieces and then let him choose the one he liked best. He feels pride in this piece now and knows that his opinion matters.

3. Think outside the box (or canvas) for your collection. I own a scarf by my friend and artist Raven Roxanne. It’s a print of one of her nude ladies paintings. Great to wear now and frame later.

4. Find a framer you love and trust and aim for a diverse collection of frames for a “collected over time” look. My favorite source is Framebridge.

5. Check Etsy for art finds! I have found a lot of pieces there like this one at reasonable prices.

9 Easy Ways to Go Green

Simple Solutions to Live Greener (& Save a Little Money While Doing It!)

Yesterday was Earth Day (just in case you missed the memo).  Earth Day, to me, always serves as a great reminder to think of ways I can go green.  And yes, not just for a day, but every day.  It’s that gentle kick in the behind to consider better habits during my normal routine.

In the slideshow above, I’ve rounded up nine easy ways to go green, and believe me…they’re super simple.  But if you’re like me, sometimes you forget and/or get lazy about these little steps to a greener community (it’s okay, let’s just work on it!).  What would you add to the list?  Cheers, Kat

Stop buying paper towels and instead use dish towels to dry hands, clean up messes and keep things tidy. It's amazing how many paper towels we go through without realizing it!

Wash Clothes in Cold Water

Wash Clothes in Cold Water

Washing your clothes in cold water keeps your utility bill down, takes better care of your clothes, AND is better for the planet. About 90 percent of energy used when washing your clothes is just to heat the water (costing you $100 or more every year).

Run the Dishwasher

Running the dishwasher actually uses a lot less water than washing dishes by hand (like HALF less). The continuous stream of running water adds up, so consider the dishwasher your friend for this household chore.

Blogger desk work station via Waiting on Martha

Waiting on Martha is growing and we couldn’t be more thrilled!  We’re looking for a fabulous full-time, (could possibly be part time, possibly) Atlanta-based individual to serve as our Business Manager.  Our BM will wear many, many hats, serving as an integral part of our fun and crazy team.

The right candidate is a doer, has great attention to detail and is extremely organized.  But above all else, they are very self sufficient, extremely organized, personable and enjoy jumping in wherever and whenever needed, and is willing to wear a lot (A LOT) of hats.  We’ll rely on our BM to handle a lot of customer service-related tasks, vendor management, Shop inventory management, as well as administrative and internal team coordination.

Working closely with WOM founder and creative director Mandy Kellogg Rye, our BM will primarily represent the brand on the retail side of things, but will also help on various projects you’ll find here on WaitingonMartha.com as well as MKR Design in event and styling coordination. One day could entail working with customers to resolve a problem, ushering in new inventory, preparing Shop orders and or shipment, the next: assisting in editorial plans and being on-site for styling projects and editorial shoots.

Our BM will be asked to answer emails and phone calls in a timely and friendly manner, as well as be responsible for warehouse and inventory management for Waiting on Martha’s retail shop.  And acting as WOM’s key Shop liaison, our BM will handle important vendor management.  On the administrative front we’re looking for someone to keep our mounds of invoices, receipts,  and contracts organized, handle the team and personal calendar for MKR and in her words, “help keep our world spinning.”

This position’s hours are somewhat flexible, though the BM MUST be in Atlanta. Salary will be based on experience.  We’re very eager to find a driven, engaging individual that is as passionate about the daily hustle as we all are here at WOM.  We hope you’ll help us in spreading the word about this exciting job opportunity and look forward to reviewing applications.  Interested applicants should email kat@waitingonmartha.com to apply.  Thank you!  Cheers, Kat
