We take the whole #ShopSmall thing pretty seriously here at WOM. Being a part of a small business ourselves, we understand the power of supportive customers and fans, and we appreciate having the opportunity to curate, edit and share some of our favorite finds. As an ode to fellow southern small businesses, I wanted to share a few here today to a) encourage southern small businesses to keep rocking and b) shoot a little love everyone’s way.
Running a small business and being an entrepreneur ain’t a walk in the park, and that’s why customers’ support can serve as rays of sunshine even on the hardest, darkest days. To inspire you to #ShopSmall now and throughout the holiday season, I’ve rounded up eleven of my favorite southern small businesses. I’m always on the lookout for brands to know, whether that’s through inspiring missions and values, must-have goods or simply great aesthetics and branding. If you’ve got a few up your sleeve, leave them in the comments below! Cheers, Kat

Ever Alice Studio
Based in Nashville, Ever Alice Studio offers elegant and elevated jewelry. Founder Sarah Teague shows us how beautiful neutrals and understated details can be, using materials such as bone, wood, semi-precious stones and pavé diamonds. The brand also expertly curates a collection of small gifts and accessories.
The Sapelo Skin Care system was inspired by Southern salt marshes and created in Savannah, Georgia. The luxury line helps rejuvenate skin with a healing blend of bioactive ingredients and indigenous Southern plant and marine botanicals found in nature. MKR included their fantastic Renewing Serum in her recent binge-worthy beauty buys, and I had the pleasure of meeting the brilliant ladies behind the brand yesterday (!).
This southern-curated, web-based art collective was started by a young art broker from Louisville. Mollie Creasons' roots and art studies inspired her to make it easy for people to experience and collect art. Through her beautiful site, finding a painting or piece of art is super simple (and fun). I'm always on the hunt for more local talent, and this is a wonderful way to do just that.
Lettermade reminds us how thoughtful details like monogrammed linens truly make a tablescape shine. We're thrilled to carry some of the Winter Park, Florida-based brand's beautiful designs in the shop, which can be seen here.
Founded by Paige Booker and Alice Trahant,
Empire State Finery uses organic materials and found treasures to create inspiring jewelry with an incredible focus on quality and details. This Atlanta-based brand is a go-to for statement pieces and everyday flair.
Originally from Outer Banks, Ceri Hoover started her brand in 2013 in Nashville. Her premium leather accessories are "simple, but never plain" and the quality of each design is obvious. Ceri Hoover accessories can be found in over 150 boutiques across the United States, in Anthropologie, and at cerihoover.com.
We partnered with Florida brand Hayden Reis to create this exclusive tote bag, and we're still some of the brand's biggest fans! Made of durable sailcloth, these fashionable, yet functional carryalls are the perfect companion for just about anything planned.
Located on King Street in Charleston, Hampden Clothing sets the bar high for other clothing boutiques. With an impressive designer clothing lineup, it's hard not to be inspired to take a more fashion-forward approach to life after visiting the store. Its online store lets out-of-town customers get their fix (and has great sales periodically!). Oh, and it's been recognized as one of the top boutiques by Vogue and Marie Claire. #casual
We've talked about One Love Organics a whole lot here on WOM; it's one of our absolute favorite all-natural skincare brands. Based in St. Simon's Island, Georgia, OLO is devoted to creating effective, organic beauty products, and has garnered the attention of beauty buffs all around the globe.
Handmade Studio TN handcrafts modern, functional ceramics in their Nashville studio. Each unique, understated piece is available for sale online, and custom order, rentals, wholesale or a wedding registry inquiries are always welcome.
Emily McCarthy knows her stuff when it comes to entertaining, gifts and paper. Her retail business, both online and now with a flagship store in downtown Savannah are truly must-visits (literally, I went yesterday!). Just don't be surprised if it'll make you want to decorate your whole world in Greek keys and Celtic trellises!
1 // Now this would be our kind of dermatology visit. Part-doctor’s office. Part spa. Part beauty boutique. And with an offering of One Love Organics products, we’d be in heaven!
5 // On Thursday, I headed to Tybee Island + Savannah with a fun little Southern C crew! Follow along on Instagram all weekend, and be sure to tweet us any recs we have to see/do.
8 // For decades, Americans have been encouraged to reduce their fat intake. This has led to an increase in low-fat, high-sugar foods that some experts are now blaming for obesity. Now, it’s come out that the sugar industry paid scientists in the 1960s to downplay the cause-and-effect between sugar and heart disease, and instead blame saturated fat. More reason to drink my Bulletproof Coffee, I say.
When any meal I make tastes good I celebrate. When any meal I make tastes good, looks way more difficult than it actually is to create, and is crazy easy to clean up I dance a little jig in unedited pure joy. Really, I do dance a little jig. And that little jig is currently happening thanks to my drool-worthy, uber healthy, one sheet pan salmon with garlicky green beans and cherry tomatoes.
It’s a delightful recipe to have up your sleeve, as it’s just as easy as it is elegant. It makes for a wonderfully elevated weeknight meal (we’re still making weeknight meals a priority), while also serving as an instant crowd-pleaser for any dinner party. And while I’m not personally a huge salmon fan, even I can always be tempted with one of these herb crusted, wild-caught salmon filets alongside some of my favorite vibrant, seasonal veggies.
For today’s one sheet pan salmon, I topped the salmon filets with an homemade herb mixture of minced garlic, chopped parsley, thyme, oregano, basil, a little rosemary and olive oil from my herb garden (check out our easy indoor herb garden tutorial). I then added fresh, farmers market green beans and heirloom cherry tomatoes onto the sheet with the salmon filets. You can, of course, include any of your favorite seasonal vegetables here; I like to use whatever I’ve picked up in my farmers market haul from the weekend before.
In true one-sheet-pan form, I baked everything on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, which preserves my sheet pan and allows for the easiest clean up. Plus there’s just something about how well all of these flavors bake and meld together that really just makes this an A+ all around. Tell me, do you think you’ll give my one sheet pan salmon a go? Truly, MKR

One Sheet Pan Herb Crusted Salmon with Garlicky Green Beans & Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes
1 large filet wild caught salmon (or 4 individual filets) with skin-on and de-boned
fresh green beans, whole
2 pints heirloom cherry tomatoes
2 shallots, sliced
3 garlic cloves, rough chopped
salt and pepper, to taste
4 tbs+ olive oil
2-3 tbs. balsamic vinegar
herb mixture*
1 sheet parchment paper
*for herb mixture
8 cloves of garlic
handful parsley, thyme, oregano, basil and a little rosemary, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt & pepper
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 F degrees.
Assemble tomatoes to one side of the sheet pan and season with salt, pepper and drizzle balsamic vinegar on top.
Add green beans to sheet pan, top with sliced shallots and rough chopped garlic. Season with salt, pepper, and drizzle olive oil on top.
Make herb mixture; combine all chopped herbs into a pile on cutting board. Drizzle with olive oil and mix into a paste with your fingers (only enough for it all to bind together).
Assemble salmon filets on sheet pan and rub herb mixture on top.
Cook for approx. 20 minutes (or until tomatoes are bursting).
