I’m starting to sense a pattern. I’m officially knee-deep in anything and everything clean beauty and I’m not looking back. By now, all-natural beauty has become a household term for many of us, but it’s for good reason. I simply sleep better at night knowing that I’m doing my body (and mind) good by sticking to products that help me feel better every day. And honestly adopting a few new daily habits plus switching out the old, for the new au-natural has been a super easy adjustment. Emphasis on easy.
In today’s peek at my current beauty obsessions, I’m leaning heavily on the detox factor. After receiving my first box in LeafTV’s The Year of Wellness, I was eager to keep a lot of the products around long after the samples were done. Thanks to the Detox Box, I was introduced to the benefits of drinking of a copper water bottle (which just so happens to be beautiful too) and burning the sweet smelling palo santo sticks. I found these daily shake mixes that taste just as good as they sound. But I also recently introduced The Super Elixir’s Sleep Welle calming tea and sleep mist into my nighttime routine…two excellent products that are proving their worth when I need to get in relaxation mode stat. Read more about each of the items below, and share what all-natural beauty products you’ve been obsessing over lately! Truly, MKR
P.S. We’ve been toying with the idea of posting videos via Facebook Live about posts like this. We’d love to hear if you’d like to see this beauty content on there. Interiors? Travel? Tell us your thoughts! xo

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting England for the launch of Farrow & Ball‘s latest (and I’d say most gorgeous) wallpaper line. I had spent a few weeks in London and the surrounding English countryside before (in my college days), but I was eager to escape the Georgia heat and return, this time with fall in the air and design on my mind. And F&B‘s invitation to celebrate its 70th anniversary gave me the perfect excuse to jump the pond.
With it’s unparalleled paint and beautiful wallpaper designs, F&B has always been an iconic brand and mainstay for us here in the design industry (and beyond). So I was delighted at the opportunity to step into F&B‘s world and experience where it all began and learn just what makes Farrow & Ball truly the best of the best.
The history proved to be fascinating; F&B was founded in 1946 by John Farrow and Richard Ball, two true paint pioneers. They met working at a local clay pit, then went on to build their first factory in Dorset. From there, the brand began its bespoke offering of beautiful paints and a hand-crafted wallpaper line. In the 60s, the duo sold the company to Norman Chappell (yes, THE Chappell of Chappell Green), and the company was moved to Wimborne, where it currently resides, and where my story begins.
Arriving to Heathrow, a bit jet lagged but excited, the Mr. and I quickly jumped in our car navigating the English roundabouts and wrong-side-of-the-road driving to arrive in Wimborne in just about two hours. We walked around town, ate fish and chips, but called it an early evening as the next day I’d be joining F&B at the stunning Dean’s Court.
Dean’s Court, with a 1,300-year story, is a beautiful, traditional manor house that boasts gorgeous grounds and 13 acres that have been at the center of a rural English community for centuries. It’s even been in the same Hanham family for nearly 500 years, with the current Hanham descendants still living in it! Fortunately for us, the estate is open to the public through tours and events, as well as through private weddings and events. During our morning at Dean’s Court, we noshed on scones, were introduced to F&B’s latest wallpaper line, and toured the manor, getting lost in its history. I was immediately taken with the perfectly manicured lawns and the feeling like I was walking inside history at every step.
After a lovely lunch in town, we headed down the road to where the magic happens; Farrow & Ball headquarters. We made lampshades with the gorgeous wallpaper, and watched F&B’s custom paint and wallpaper process. A process that I was thoroughly fascinated by. Hopefully you were following along on Snapchat and Instagram while I was there, because I shared behind-the-scenes footage of F&B’s process when creating its paint and hand-crafted wallpaper. The paint process was top notch of course, but the wallpaper was truly mind blowing. F&B hand-stamps all of its wallpaper, using just three colors. The paper is first painted with F&B paint, then stamped with a traditional block and trough method (versus your typical ink printing). Each print has texture to the touch, turning each wallpaper design into an individual work of art in that sense. The result is simply breath taking.
I walked away from the trip appreciating the by-hand process and procedure behind everything that F&B makes. While the brand periodically releases new paint and wallpaper collections with limited edition colors, you have to wait every two or three years! If you remember Chappell Green, you’ll recall that it was an extremely stunning, extremely popular limited edition paint color. I was crazy about the color when it was released, but grew worried that I couldn’t get it once it was pulled. BUT what I learned on my trip was that F&B allows you to directly order previous selections through them with the serial number and color code. So you can rest assured that you’ll always have access to your signature shade when needed years and years from now. Talk about dedication to the craft and to the design! Truly, MKR

For years, my mom has urged me to volunteer. To find a cause and give my time. To connect with others on a deeper level. She’d tell me about how good it would make me feel, how it would maybe be the missing piece to my puzzle. She’d tell me this whenever I was stressed, sad or feeling a bit out of sorts.
I would shake her off, saying I didn’t have enough time. My job was too busy. I barely had time to see my friends during the week, let alone commit to seeing complete strangers. I think in a way I was weary of just the thought of having one more thing that I didn’t reeeeally want to do. I just didn’t want to have one more obligation on my calendar.
My mom started talking to me about volunteering while I was in college. She would mention it once in awhile in the years right after, too. I still brushed it off, busy in my mid-twenties routine and consumed in work and my social life. It was only in the past few months that I realized she was onto something. It hit me one day out of the blue that I needed something…more. I needed something to fulfill that part in me that needed to do something good.
One night on my laptop in bed, I got the fire lit under me; I scoured Hands on Nashville, a nonprofit that organizes volunteering opportunities in our local community. I had always assumed that finding volunteer opportunities and committing to specific projects would be a hassle to do. But it was nothing like that; HON made it incredibly easy to search for causes that truly resonated with me personally. I read all about these local charities’ missions and so many different ways to get involved. I felt excited at the thought of connecting with a cause that I could grow with, and one that I could find new friends and make new memories with. I was eager to find one that would help define the person I wanted to be.
To say I enjoyed my first night in the garden harvesting okra and digging for potatoes with The Nashville Food Project is an understatement. There was something about working with my hands—and no cell phone or laptop in sight—that did wonders for my mood. I worked alongside other volunteers with totally different stories and backgrounds than me…and it felt good.
As I near my 28th birthday this month, I can see how it gets easier and easier to just coast through day-to-day routines and almost even run on autopilot. I can totally see how easy it is to make excuses about not having enough time, or money, or energy to give back to our communities. I did that for years (and catch myself still feeling that sometimes). But I’m also revived knowing that there are easy ways to help others…and it’s not as overwhelming as it sounds. My mom was right all along; there are ways to get an even deeper fulfillment out of each day, and volunteering is one of the best ways to do it.
Tell me, are you involved in your community through charity work? Do you, too, struggle with finding the time to volunteer? I urge you to see if your city has a local resource for finding the right volunteer opportunities for YOU, and if not, try a search on Volunteer Match. I’d love to hear about your own personal journey in the comments below. Cheers, Kat
