We’re always pinning motivational quotes and Words to Live By, and sometimes some resonate more than others. Last summer I shared 5 inspirational quotes that were speaking to us at the time, and while those still resonate with me, I’ve sensed a shift in which motivational quotes I keep coming back to lately. It’s no secret that we’ve been in major #GSD mode here at WOM, with a busy summer ahead and dozens of fun collaborations and partnerships on the books. And with our Social Media Intensive at ADAC next week, I know I’ll be feeling the creative entrepreneur spirit so I felt like these ten motivational quotes couldn’t be more relevant for us all today. I’d love to hear which resonate with you! Cheers, Kat

Don't Be Too Hard on Yourself
It's easy to look at others' success and wonder why you're not there yet. But I love that this quote reminds us that we're exactly where we need to be, and our story and journey is unique to us.
I usually have to admit that I'm my own worst enemy. With self doubt, frustration, anxiety—you name it—I'm limiting myself in ways that other people simply can't. Remembering that we're our only limits is a great way to stay motivated to pursue our dreams.
It's true; there are opportunities in the places you least expect them (even in refusals and rejections!). This quote is exactly what you need to tell yourself when you're feeling down or discouraged.
We all love to talk about our dreams, but showing them through your everyday work and accomplishments is truly the most fulfilling way to share them with the world.
Perhaps my favorite of this bunch, this quote is such a great reminder that our journey—every part of it—makes up our story. So instead of rushing through every step of it, stop and appreciate what has made you become who you are.
But seriously, it's never crowded. Relish in the fact that you've pushed and hustled harder than you even thought you could, and enjoy being among the other inspiring individuals who have done the same.
Failure is all part of the game, and that's expected. As you gain more and more experience, you'll remember countless failures and mistakes. But in those memories you'll also have a stronger footing in your journey.
I had a conversation the other day with one of my friends about our closets. She said she’s had some items in there that she purchased more than eight years ago, which I most certainly cannot say for my closet. That dated me right back to my days of cheap polyester tops and trendy cuts that couldn’t make it through a season, never less almost a decade. The difference, most certainly, was that she had purchased quality, “slow fashion” items, and had taken really good care of them along the way.
In my recent efforts to invest in better pieces, build a sustainable wardrobe and say no to “fast fashion”, I’ve also thought a lot about how I’m treating my clothing in my closet. I can admit that laziness and lack of caring has seen many a shirt or blouse get ruined in the laundry, so I have set out to make sure I’m covering the basics to help my clothes last longer (step 1: keep Woolite on hand, always). And yes, that can even mean simply hanging up my favorite soft tee instead of letting it wrinkle (and get thrown in the wash to take out said wrinkles) and ultimately lose its feel, shape and integrity…causing me to buy yet another one. We’re back from The Southern C Summit and feeling as re-energized as ever. Like in previous years, I attended the engaging conference for creative entrepreneurs and left with ALL the feels. I walked away with a renewed sense of purpose, SO much excitement over seeing old friends and meeting new…and big plans for the next few months. And of course, Charleston wooed me once again. I don’t think I’ll ever, ever grow tired of Charleston’s soft, pretty pastels, its charming cobblestone streets and the cascading window boxes worthy of magazine covers.
During the week, we had the pleasure of dining next to friends new and old. Wednesday’s dinner by The Bad Bitches at Fritz Porter on Wednesday night was a magical evening, and a result of a true dream team. The fare from Grow Food Carolina was right up my alley: quintessential farm-to-table (I’m talking it was in the ground no more than 24 hours before our plates!) and the tablescape by Bellafare, Ooh Events and Peace Love Flowers with touches by Minted, Rebecca Atwood, Snowe Home and Suite One Studio was simply stunning. And Thursday night’s dinner at Tara Guerard‘s place…well it took my breath away. Tara showed us all how it’s done; setting the table for nearly 30 of us beneath the canopied light for a wonderful last night alongside some of the industry’s best.
I, of course, enjoyed a glass or two (or five) of wine Thursday evening with my keynote session on social media behind me…ha! But all jokes aside, Thursday’s session was fantastic; Kat live-Periscoped for everyone at home who couldn’t make it to Charleston for The Summit, and most importantly we announced our upcoming Social Media Intensive, which I absolutely cannot wait to host here in Atlanta in June.
After past requests we’ve been trying to figure out how we could make a social media intensive happen, so when the opportunity to team up with The Southern C came about it was a no brainer. This all-day session at ADAC will be a deep-dive into the nitty-gritty of each social media platform with attendees being put to work (computers required) diving into each platform in real time. With two different tailored tracks, attendees will leave with a notebook full of best practices, be able to ask questions pertinent to their brand and business, and will walk away with plenty of practical takeaways. Since we’re keeping things intimate, seats are very limited, and if you haven’t already secured your spot you’ll want to do so ASAP. And we hope you’ll be joining us the night before at Steve McKenzie’s for a fabulous cocktail hour…more details to come!
We’re releasing the last tickets to our readers here today, which can be bought here. And because I’d love for everyone to have a chance of coming, we’re giving away one ticket in the widget below! Truly, MKR
P.S. And if it could get any better…the next Summit is to be held on beautiful Sea Island in February 2017. Who’s coming?! xo
