By the time wrapping paper and bows are strewn everywhere, and opened gifts litter the living room floor on Christmas morning, it’s time for another cherished holiday tradition in the Rye household: Christmas morning brunch. You’ll remember our holiday brunch routine we shared here a few years ago; a mid-morning feast with pajamas still on, and the glorious stretch of time before that inevitable Christmas day nap.  It’s plain to see that we take this meal just as seriously, year after year, maybe even more than the gift wrapping and the ornament swapping (if that’s even possible).

After taste testing World Market’s Gingerbread Pancake Mix last Saturday, I knew I had found the star of this year’s Christmas morning brunch menu.  A stack of warm, fluffy, gingerbread pancakes would be just what we need to settle into that cozy Christmas day coma.  Oh and can we talk about how cute this maple syrup gingerbread man is?! On sale too!

Because you know I always like to add a little something to my dishes, I played around with a few additions to the pancake mix; I sprinkled chopped pecans into the batter for that beloved crunch you know I always love and grated fresh nutmeg on top for that little bit of warmth.  Doused in maple syrup these semi-homemade gingerbread pancakes are the perfect option for Christmas morning (or really any morning), because, let’s be honest, nobody wants to over-exert themselves too much in the kitchen on this joyous day!  Truly, MKR

Cherished Holiday Traditions: Part I

An Ornament Exchange With World Market

Every December ( or November more likely)—and ever since I can remember—I’ve added new Christmas Tree ornaments to our tree.  Candy canes, ballerinas, icicles and snowmen; each had its own place among the tinsel and twinkle lights.  While the Christmas tree ornaments have varied over the years, this cherished holiday tradition and each ornaments significance has not; each ornament representing some of my favorite memories and cherished milestones.

I always smile when sifting through the boxes each year, uncovering the Christmas tree ornaments that instantly transport me back to a special time or place, like my first ballet recital or our first Christmas with Addy.  I knew when I married the Mr. that I wanted to continue this cherished holiday tradition in our home, so picking out the annual additions is still just as fun as ever (this year his ornament has to do with his favorite place, shhhhh don’t tell).

Though we take the annual selection pretty seriously, I like to say there are no rules when it comes deciding on the perfect one.  I was a kid in a candy store recently when I stumbled upon so many fun ones in World Market.  While I did have to reign myself in a bit, I walked out with at least a dozen Christmas tree ornaments (including a glass pickle!) that will fit right in on our tree at home, and also as final touches when wrapping gifts. They’re the perfect add-on to pretty packages (I love adding an ornament to a great bottle of wine or champagne I’m gifting), and my favorite way to extend one of our holiday traditions to friends and family to create memories for years to come.  Tell me loves, what cherished holiday traditions do you share this time of year?  Truly, MKR

How to Update Your Bar Cart for the Holidays

Decorating your bar cart for the holidays
wintercart5wintercart3  winterbarcart1

Now that I finally have a bar cart of my own, I quickly realized that all of its bright pink decor and hints of summery pastels are a bit out of place near our holiday table.  So I’m looking into the archives this week for quick tips to transform it with MKR’s holiday bar cart ideas

With a few easy additions, your bar cart will be ready for fun-filled nights of holiday entertaining. Consider swapping out bright, summery colors for deep reds and evergreens. Invite a festive friend (we love this reindeer this year!) to join the cart, and consider using a holiday-inspired wine bucket instead of your standard ice bucket. And don’t forget a festive candle and matches.  Cheers, Kat

P.S. We take holiday entertaining essentials pretty seriously here at WOM.  Be sure to check them all out in our Holiday Collection in the Shop! xo
