A personal lingerie fitting appointment was not exactly at the top of my list of things to do the other week, let me assure you.  Sure, I’ve been “fitted” in the past; I knew the routine with tape measure and cup size in order to find the perfect bra.  And yes, I know the importance of having a well-fitted brassiere.  It’s just the whole thought of the intrusive handling and intimate quarters that I typically prefer to pass on if I can, you know?!

These begrudging feelings, of course, conflicted with the fact that I had a date with a stylist at the luxurious Rigby & Peller, a brand known to be a world-class lingerie destination located at Phipps here in Atlanta.  I had never been to Rigby & Peller, but I couldn’t admit that I was not intrigued with the opportunity to visit the luxe store for a personalized visit.

At Rigby & Peller, they believe that lingerie is the first layer of confidence, with the power to flatter, reassure and enhance.  They pride themselves on having premium collections of lingerie and swimwear that are designed and edited by the experts, from the best brands all over the world.  Think Stella McCartney, Chantelle, Ongossamer, Panache and many more.

My visit started with the warmest welcome, followed by a chat about my fit preferences.  Like most, I am guilty of owning a few everyday bras that gape, and some that have straps that cut into me.  My stylist shared advice on style and cut that would help avoid all of those headaches, with recommendations on specific brands that really deliver the best bras.

It was the most unique and worthwhile experience I’ve ever had with a bra fitting.  Apparently, the stylists at Rigby & Peller have to train for six weeks prior to being able to help customers, and FYI: there’s no tape measure involved.  My stylist helped me find more than a dozen pieces whose quality was second to none, and she answered every question I had, and trust me, there were a lot of questions.  The bras I picked out are utterly gorgeous, and many of them have convertible straps so I can make them strapless (a huge BONUS in my book). Plus with over 90 sizes there’s literally a size for everyone; even if you’re a K cup!

I also discovered a beautiful body suit, which I’m absolutely obsessed with right now.  I’ve been layering it under a blazer for just a peek of lace; it’s the kind of piece you never feel uncomfortable showing (like you’re wearing just-a-bra-under-a-blazer kind of thing).  Lastly, I picked up quite possibly the comfiest, softest pajamas.  It’s basically all I’m wearing these days when I’m at home. So needless to say, I walked out of there with a pep in my step (and a bag full of amazing pieces) knowing that my lingerie wardrobe just took a major turn for the better.

With 10 boutiques in the US, Rigby & Peller is helping women find lingerie that fits perfectly and feels comfortable.  You can say goodbye to the straps cutting into you, the gaping and the pinching that we all have come to know and hate.  Instead, they’ll help make you look and feel comfortable, confident and beautiful.  I am a new lifetime fan!

P.S.  A great way to extend the life of your best bras is through proper lingerie care, which I bookmarked for later.  xo

DIY Rosemary, Basil & Thyme Essential Oil Infused Olive Oil

An easy homemade recipe for irresistible flavor

DIY Herb Infused Olive Oil with Essential Oils via @waitingonmartha

Olive oil is what I like to call the cornerstone of my cooking.  You can always find a bottle or two of rich, full-bodied EVOO in the Rye pantry; we use it in practically everything.  Not only is the flavor irresistible and versatile, olive oil is loaded with antioxidants, healthy fats and anti-inflammatory benefits.  Win-win, I’d say!

I’ve bought herb infused olive oil that we’ve enjoyed in the past, but it’s pricey for being something that’s simple enough (and cheaper!) to make at home.  This brought me to start infusing olive oil with fresh herbs from my own garden this summer to great success. But it was recently that I set out to mix my own DIY herb infused olive oil with essential oils, rather than fresh herbs.  I find myself going through olive oil faster than I can grow herbs (especially in these cold winter months) and infuse the oil (it usually takes a few weeks for the oil to get properly infused with the full flavor), so I was intrigued with the idea of infusing the oils with the high-quality essential oils.

You know I’ve never been big on DIY’s, but this homemade herb infused olive oil is one I can get behind; it’s incredibly easy and a flavor difference you can truly taste.  I simply use a few drops of rosemary vitality essential oil, basil vitality essential oil and thyme vitality essential oil in place of a handful of fresh herbs with organic, unrefined and unfiltered olive oil.  You can most certainly mix your essential oils; try combinations with lemon and rosemary, or basil and black pepper (you’ll only want to use 3-4 drops of essential oil total).  I like to store the herb infused olive oil in a glass olive oil cruet, which is perfect for gifting or leaving on the counter.

This simple recipe tastes incredible as a simple salad dressing, a drizzle over pasta dishes, a dip for artisan bread, or a chicken marinade.  Other essential oils to consider infusing include lemon, orange, oregano, lemongrass, dill, and spicy black pepper vitality essential oils.  Tell me friends, will you be mixing up some homemade herb infused olive oils?  Truly, MKR

5 Ways To Prepare For Holiday House Guests

Welcome Friends & Family with Thoughtful Details This Holiday

Holiday entertaining tips via @waitingonmartha Holiday entertaining ideas by @waitingonmartha How to prepare for holiday house guests via @waitingonmartha Preparing a tray for house guests, @waitingonmartha Welcoming out-of-towners for the holidays by @waitingonmartha Holiday entertaining ideas for the nightstand, @waitingonmartha

I’ve always looked forward to hosting overnight guests.  Yes, I’m admittedly a homebody, but I relish the opportunity to have loved ones here with us at home, especially this time of year.

As you may remember, I shared my five steps to get the house “guest ready” a few years ago.  It’s one of our most popular posts with its easy entertaining inspiration and hotel-like details to replicate at home.  It’s still a favorite of mine as well, but I’d like to say I’ve honed my house guests prep game even more since then.  Today’s post is the proof.

The secret to hosting friends and family throughout the holidays (and really any time of year) is in the details and little luxuries that so many people overlook; include things that make them feel like they’re staying at a 5-star hotel.  Think of the necessities you need and the extras you would want, but wouldn’t want to ask for!  I’ve broken the details down to five separate areas below with none being outlandish or fussy, but instead achieving that warm welcome and feelings that will make guests never want to leave.  Truly, MKR

Because beautiful bedding makes all the difference

Nothing beats clean sheets and gorgeous bedding…it’s the obvious statement of the room that can always easily be changed.  I recently bought a new comforter; I realized I was sort of over duvets in general and how they lay. So being ready for a fresh change, I ordered this punchy comforter and sham set.  I’d say it was just the refresh the room needed!

The personalized sheets are a detail I just love too; they’re subtle, crisp and simply timeless.

The Basics

Everything they don't want to ask for

I always like to prepare a tray or two with the necessities that people never want to ask for.  That includes things like Advil, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, razors, and even your wifi password written out on a piece of paper.

These rattan trays are great because they’re easy and functional as they organize and corral all of these necessities. They don’t have huge handles, so they add just the right amount of texture without being overpowering to the overall design.

Cozy Details

Create a welcoming escape

You want to make your guests feel welcome—almost as good as home—and one of the easiest ways of doing that is by providing cozy details.  A huggable throw blanket and sets of pajamas are two of my go-to’s when creating am oasis for guests.  But remember: when buying pajamas, you’ll always want to have them bigger than smaller, so size up if you want to offer a standard pair.

More cozy details to include: offer a waffle pique bath robe, a pair of cashmere slippers or a silk sleep mask for the best beauty sleep they’ve had in awhile.

Refreshments

Water, snacks & treats

One of the reasons being away from home gets wearisome sometimes is the feeling of dependency over the little things.  By offering plenty of refreshments in the bedroom, you give your guests the chance to feel more at home…on their own.

I like to stock up on distilled or sparkling water, healthy snacks (my favorite are from Nourish Snacks), and of course, little seasonal treats like these gourmet candied pecans

The Final Touches

Seasonal details & design

To celebrate the season, I knew I wanted to hang a giant boxwood wreath above the bed.  Hanging a wreath is nothing new, I know.  But unlike other wreaths, boxwood won’t allow trimmings to fall on your guests’ heads in bed.  Boxwood and eucalyptus are my preferred greens whenever hanging a wreath like this one. I hung this one with a gorgeous green velvet ribbon; one that was substantial enough to hold the large wreath and had wire to make a nice bow.  And to keep things fresh, spritz frequently with a homemade Balsam Fir spray (check out @thewellcode) for more on that.

I also displayed paperwhites I sprouted from the bulbs, along with a basket of white poinsettias.  Both are so festive, but a lot less expensive than other flowers this time of year.  But you’ll want to be careful with your poinsettias on the ground if you have furry friends around.

Lastly, I like to have a few magazines, newspaper and any other reading material on-hand for guests.  I also place a guestbook on the dresser; it’s such a nice tradition to have people share memories, especially at Christmastime!
