5 Healthy Meal Delivery Systems for Every Eater

Meals & Subscriptions that Will Fit your Personal Lifestyle
Filed Under > Everyday

I’ve pretty much tried it all when it comes to food delivery meals.  And that includes the ones you cook yourself, the ones you have to simply heat up, and the ones that arrive at your doorstep ready-to-eat. We find ourselves in the day and age where delivery subscription services no longer market to only the cooking-challenged; they include plans that can fit perfectly into all of our different, busy lifestyles.

By now you know how much I enjoy cooking.  So I’m not looking to replace cooking, though I am always interested in ways to supplement our weekly meals with healthy, creative options.  And honestly, I don’t have the time nor energy to deal with breakfast and lunch if I’m cooking dinner that night.  So I’ll be the one to tell you that I see the benefits in all of the different plans out there; they deliver—quite literally—the meals that you and your family may need at that time.

Ladies, if you’re struggling to get your husbands and boyfriends to eat healthier, there’s a great meal service for you.  My husband really loves Freshly, and as I note below, it’s one of the companies that send you meals that are ready in two minutes that are really low in carbs and gluten.  They also happen to be tasty—and Mr.-approved.

And if you’re interested in ready-to-eat meals with a full wellness regimen, I have to recommend Sakara to you. The Sakara Life meals are an investment, but totally worth it in my opinion when you take note of how much you’re spending on supplements, beauty waters and more if that’s your kind of thing.  This service includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, detox teas, morning waters and night waters…and you save when you subscribe.

Find more of my tried and tested suggestions for healthy meal delivery services below.  Have you tried and of these options?  Which plans work for you and yours?  Truly, MKR

P.S. Speaking of food delivery-esq deals, I’m also a huge fan of Daily Harvest for healthy smoothies, Butcher Box for meat delivery every two months, and of course Farmer’s Dog, which is fresh food for Fido!  xo

Green Chef
Perfect for: Those wanting all organic, specific diet-planned meals

I’ve done Green Chef for a year or two now, and I’ve always been so impressed with the fresh, organic ingredients in the box. Though you do have to pay $9 shipping each time, you can customize the creative meal plans to fit your diet: paleo, gluten-free, omnivore, carnivore, etc.  It’s one of the first times I’ve found decent vegan-friendly dinner recipes.  The meals can be relatively easy to make, with some lessons in simultaneous steps.

As I mentioned above, Freshly is a great option for straight-forward, almost-ready-to-eat food.  No cooking is required, besides heating up a meal or two.  Shipping is free, and it’s possible to opt only for breakfast, or lunch, instead of getting only dinners, etc.  This is a favorite plan of ours because we can do breakfast this way, and we can have a home-cooked meal for dinner.  I’ve found it to be hugely successful with the Mr. when we’re trying to eat a bit healthier, without all of the fussy weird recipes that he’d turn his nose up to.

How To Style A Console Table; Dissecting The Design

Breaking Down The Details of a Beautiful, Functional Console
Filed Under > Living

How To Style A Console Table, Waiting On Martha Blog

A styled console table, whether that’s in the entryway, hallway, or living room is one of our favorite times form meets function in every home.  So we thought we’d spend today breaking down just how to style a console table.

The console table pictured above, as well as the console table seen here, are some of our top-pinned images of all time!  In order to achieve a pin-worthy and truly functional space, it’s helpful to understand the different components of console table decor.

When it comes to the actual “how” in how to style a console table, think outside the box. And let’s not forget what a console table can actually do for your home. The possibilities are truly endless; in fact MKR’s favorite version of a console table is actually used as a bar in her home and a coffee bar in the office.

Similar to the endless possibilities of what a console table can do for you is the decor that a console table can hold.  Trays, flowers, candles and art; the styling combinations bring beauty and organization together in one easy sweep.

Balance is key.  Varied height with table lamps, accents and plants, along with bold accents and multiple dimensions all work in tandem to unify the design.  And while this space can be completely customized to show off your personality, it lends itself to frequent redesign with a simple edit of accents.

To go into a bit more detail, below we’ve broken down all of the design elements that make this space beautiful.  We’d love to know if you love a console table as much as we do and how are you using your console table?! Cheers, Kat

The Surface
By starting with the surface, you’ll determine how big of statements you’ll use for the rest of the decor and accents.  Here, MKR has utilized the modern, clean design of a glass console table as the blank canvas to allow room for a show-stopping lamp, colorful art and statement stool to really shine.

Other gorgeous options include ornate tables like this blue raffia, this natural grasscloth, and this bone-inlay console table.

One thing to consider: some console tables like this one have a lower, second shelf.  This will allow for more styling space, but will limit the use of stools and ottomans.

Art
Think of oversize wall art as the anchor of this space.  A bright, bold piece centers the vignette and gives it the dimension it deserves.

Don’t want to invest in an original piece just yet?  Check out Minted and One Kings Lane for beautiful options for framed prints and printed canvases.

The Lamp
The next piece is a no-brainer; the lamp.  Not only will you want a lighting source on in this styled vignette, you will need the added height and interest it brings.  A table lamp instantly unifies the art and the styled items on the table.  MKR incorporated a stunning Mary McDonald statement lamp to great effect.

More gorgeous options include this gold bamboo table lamp, this gilded beauty by AERIN, and this simplistic, and really reasonably priced, white table lamp

Stools & Ottomans
This part is what makes the space so pin-worthy!  Stools and ottomans are the perfect marriage of form and function, and they really take the vignette to the next level.

Whether that’s a Moroccan leather pouf, a set of X benches, the White Hand Stool from Waiting on Martha as pictured above, or two chinoiserie garden stools, this detail always helps tie the space together.  Not to mention, it gives you a place to set your bag in the entryway!

The Book Stack
A stack of books instantly delivers the balance on the table that you’re aiming for; arrange 1-2 stacks with a variety in sizes—they don’t have to be perfect!  Have fun with your book selection, picking out titles and covers that show your personality and interests.  And MKR always reminds us to incorporate a pop of red in a vignette; here she used Art of the 20th Century to do the trick.

Book stacks also act as the perfect pedestal for your favorite accents like a balloon dog, these geometric objects, a brass skull or this gold urchin

28" Cymbidium in Pot, Faux

Something Fresh
You can never go wrong with fresh blooms or greenery in a styled vignette.  Here, an orchid provides another point of interest and added height.  If you find yourself with a green thumb, having a live plant gives you the perfect excuse to enjoy this styled space throughout your week!  And if you can’t ever keep a plant alive, consider a beautiful faux option like this one

For the Trinkets
When you’re considering how to make this space as functional as it is beautiful, don’t forget a place to stash your car keys, especially if the console table is in the hallway or entryway. Decorative boxes and trinket dishes, like this one and this one, are the perfect additions to your book stacks and accents.

Raspberry & Blackberry Goat Cheese Crostini with Fresh Mint & Thyme

A simple, elegant summer appetizer that everyone will love
Filed Under > Appetizers & Sides

Raspberry & Blackberry Goat Cheese Crostini recipe on Waiting on Martha Berry Goat Cheese Crostini recipe on Waiting on Martha

I have this love affair with toast.  There’s just something about the crisp crunch and delectable mix of toppings that gets me every time.  And crostini is just a fancy way to call it.  So like nachos—because you know how much I love nachos by now—the possibilities for your toasts and your crostinis are truly endless.  Today, without further adieu, I proudly give you a sure-hit Memorial Day appetizer: my Raspberry & Blackberry Goat Cheese Crostini recipe.

With spring’s bounty of fresh berries, this is the perfect dish that fools your guests into thinking it’s a lot fancier than it is.  To create the berry “shmear”, simply put your berries in a bowl, lightly smash some of them with the back of the spoon.  You’ll want some full berries for presentation sake when serving, but you’ll also want the smashed juice as part of the shmear.  I love mixing in the gourmet herb goat cheese from the store, but you can of course blend your own fresh herbs in goat cheese too.

In order, you’ll be happier if you spread the herb goat cheese first, then the berry “shmear”.  Next, top with the whole berries, and lastly garnish with your chopped mint.  You’ll toast on a cookie sheet in the oven until they’re golden brown.  These crostinis toast fast, so you’ll need to watch them closely so they don’t burn.  Voila!  Take those beauties out of the oven and serve on a marble board to hungry guests.

It’s simple.  It’s elegant.  And it’s downright irresistible when served up on a bright, sunny summer day!  We’re sharing this recipe as part of Shipt‘s Memorial Day virtual potluck, so be sure to check out the rest of the menu!  Truly, MKR
