One of my goals as of late is to get my derrière back in the gym.  When I lived in Chicago I was so structured with my routine of weekly pilates, strength training, and cardio, but ever since I moved and started WOM working out has taken a major back seat and I’m really starting to feel it.  And not just in the way my clothes seem to be a tad tighter, but also my overall health.  But getting back in the groove is the hardest thing to do!  I’m not sure if it’s the time I can’t seem to make or that I haven’t found my Atlanta niche…I’ve tried pilates, hot yoga, the gym, and even crossfit!  But I’m more determined then ever to make it a priority again so my Loves I’m putting it out into the void; what works for you?  What makes you lose the extra weight, feel energized, and help regain your sanity?!  Please spill your secrets, I need to know!  Truly, MKR

P.S.  And while this may have been one of my more awkward stories to photograph (fake running anyone?) a few quick truths:  I actually do workout with my gigantic (yet fabulous) Frends headphones.  I find the little ear buds fall out too easily while running which does nothing but frustrate me.  And I also workout sans socks.  My Nike’s are just so light and comfortable I find no socks are needed.  And my bright pink lip?  Depends on the day.

I’m in Atlanta as well, and I LOVE Stellar Bodies! Hard to describe the technique so you may have to google (SPX, Megaformer, Lagree), but it literally the best thing I have ever done. And I’ve taught barre, taken every spin/pilates/yoga class known to man. It’s low impact but you get incredibly fast results and it truly is a full body workout.

  • Ha totally have showed up to crossfit in pink lipstick before. Love these leggings! i need to get into lululemon for some new gear to get me motivated again. Been on a way too long hiatus from the gym!

If you’re looking for earbuds that are comfortable and stay put while you’re exercising check out the ones from Bose. The in ear piece fits comfortably and securely in your ear, there are even specific ones that are created for working.

  • I tend to do best when I commit to something that costs me money and has a specific date range and outcome. For example, signing up for a race and following a training plan or signing up for a session of boot camp, so that I’m part of a group. Oh, that’s another big on, finding people I can do it with, so it feels social and I can look forward to it.

P.S. I was in your Brand Market Workshop in Chicago. I’ve been reading your blog ever since.

  • I enjoy cycling.

I absolutely love and highly recommend Orange Theory! They have locations in Atlanta! I’ve typically been a binge exerciser — go full throttle for a month or 2 and then stop completely for 3, but Orange Theory is the first thing that has kept me in a consistent routine. In the beginning I was addicted but have scaled back to a more sustainable level. It’s an hour workout, with a combo of cardio and weights, and there is always variety in the routines. It feels almost like personal training but with the perks of group fitness. You can’t try out a session for free. 🙂 Best of luck! I hope you find something you enjoy!

Try Blast! (1 hour, split between the tread and strength training/core on the floor). I go to the Buckhead location, but there is also one in Midtown. You get an amazing workout every class – but you can decide the level you want to go at, and how much/little you want to put into it each time. My favorite instructors are Paige, Bri, Nathan & Marilu, but they are all great!

  • Find something you like to do. If you hate going to the gym, don’t go. Hate running, don’t do it. Love playing basketball, karate, whatever, stick to that! I love riding my bike and competing in bike races, so that’s what I do. I hate exercising, but I love riding. 70 pounds lost and kept off for more than 10 years.

  • Have you tried Flywheel in Buckhead? I’m absolutely addicted!
