On December 5th, I’ll be loading up the car (Addison included), and heading five hours East.  The destination: Charleston for Garden & Gun’s Second Annual Jubilee.  Jubilee is a “Made in the South” weekend full of sporting, shopping, food, music, and art, as well as special dinners and live entertainment on the grounds of the historic state park Charles Towne Landing.   Attracting from all over the country, the three-day festival is a continuation of Garden & Gun’s commitment to celebrating the best of Southern culture.  It’s G&G’s largest signature event  and I couldn’t be more excited to be attending for my very first time.

I’ll be starting my Jubilee experience Thursday night with the Oyster Roast and spending all day Friday and Saturday perusing the Jubilee marketplace, pantry, tents and grounds.  While I’m looking forward to meeting and spending time with all of the talent I must say there’s a few specific people I’ll be making a beeline for….

Mark Sage, co-owner of Bobo Intriguing Objects.  Bobo is always a stop for me during Atlanta Market and quite a few pieces found in my Shop and home have come from Bobo.  Mark is an interior design guru and will be bringing a vast array of his original antiques and curios  for all to peruse. Sage will set the stage in a 4,000 square foot tent filled to the brim and styled to inspire.  4,000 square feet!?  I might need to bring a U-Haul with me on this little adventure.

Three Brothers Boards.  2013 Made in the South Award runners-up Three Brothers will introduce a limited edition Jubille paddleboard along with their other designs.  I’ve been wanting to get a paddleboard for over a year now so this may be the weekend I make it happen!  The brothers, R.J. and Justin Murray will also share their tools, sketches, and stories inspiring their throwback designs.

Hobnob Entertaining and Leontine Linens.  Hobnob is a one-stop shop curating all things entertaining while founder Jane Scott Hodges of Leontine Linens will be showcasing all of her to-die-for linens.  of New Orleans offers a couture service and product based on the belief that one’s linens should be a reflection and extension of the person’s personal taste and lifestyle. Founder Jane Scott Hodges will be showcasing her fine linens at JUBILEE as part of the Meet the Makers Trunk Shows, giving consultations and taking custom order.

The Commons.  Longtime friends, Erin Connelly and Kerry Clark Speake work together to curate a collection of American made goods for the home. Selecting hand made goods that are beautifully designed and thoughtfully made, bringing a soulful approach to home decorating and will be showcasing their collection in the Jubilee Pantry.

Also did I mention this will be my first ever trip to Charleston?!  I’m taking my friend-ographer Kathryn McCrary to document our entire crazy journey and we’ll be staying at The Belmond Charleston Place in the heart of historic Charleston.  If you’ve got any must see, must do, must eat Charleston suggestions bring em’ on.  And please let me know if you’re planning on attending Jubilee so we can meet up for a toast.  TGIF Loves!  Truly, MKR

Around Town With The Frye Company Day Two

The Best Southern Stomping Grounds in My New Fryes

Yesterday you joined me as I toured around a few of my favorite Atlanta haunts in a pair of classic Fryes and an elevated take on black cowboy boots as part of The Frye Company’s #TheFRYELife City Guide. As a wearer of Fryes for almost a decade, I appreciate boots that are comfortable, timeless and well made. My rugged Campus boots will always be a favorite of mine, but it’s funny how I find myself reaching for a pair of cowboy boots after living in the South for a few years!

For those times I’m looking for a low, edgier boot, I now turn to this pair of buckled booties. The Frye Company’s Ray Belted Bootie is a pair that I know I’ll be rocking for years to come, with its sharp side belted details and antiqued flair.  It’s a great transitional and incredibly versatile pair that won’t run you the risk of looking generic.

Naturally, I love any excuse to visit my favorite locales around town (Northside Tavern for live blues, Inman Park for a King of Pops popsicle (Key Lime Pie is my favorite), Chattahoochee Coffee Company and Star Provisions for a treat) and it’s always more fun when I can show off a pair of kicks, especially if those kicks are Fryes. Truly, MKR

P.S. For more scenes from my Southern stomping grounds, follow along this Saturday and Sunday when I’ll be taking over The Frye Company’s Instagram. xo

What I’m Reading: January

A Reading List Packed with Bestselling Industry Reads, Page-Turner Novels & Great Coffee Table Books Plus We're Starting A Book Club
Filed Under > Everyday

Waiting on Martha book club recommendations

On the reading list?  Well quite a few actually.  But with a mix of boss-status motivational books, a few page-turning novels, some gorgeous cookbooks and of course a book or two pretty enough to stand alone as decor for that shelfie, this list is looking quite enjoyable!

The One Thing: In a fascinating, yet so simple, concept, this best seller encourages people to focus their energy on only one thing at a time, leading them to live more rewarding lives by building their careers, strengthening their finances, losing weight and getting in shape, deepening their faith, and nurturing stronger marriages and personal relationships.

Boss Life: Surviving My Own Small Business: enough said. I think any other small business owner can relate to this book at some point in their journey! As you’ll remember, my 2016 word is “structure” and I’m hoping to bring a little more sanity into my day to day.

The Leadership Secrets of Santa Claus: Any tips from one of the most time-strapped bosses around is welcome by me.  This entertaining read sheds light on many of the most common management and leadership struggles, and gives advice on how to produce significant and sustained results, and you know I love Christmas all year round.

The Go-Giver: This great read shows how powerful it can be as a small business owner to give in order to receive.  With this change of focus, you can actually receive more ten-fold.

Sandcastle Kings: Written by the star of Rich in Faith, the reality show I’m watching on Oxygen, SK explains that our answer to spiritual bankruptcy is through knowing Jesus. I can’t wait to dig into this one, and I just love how Rich Wilkerson, Jr. is bringing a young vibe back to the church.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: I’m currently reading this, and you know I’m going to go ahead and say it too: it’s truly life-changing. It’s really changed how I look at the art of tidying up, and has led me to see ways to simplify and de-clutter my life I never did before.  Stay tuned for my full download of this must-read here on the blog soon.

Eve: Up next on my reading list, this is the highly-anticipated second book by the author of The Shack, which I read in literally 24 hours.  WM. Paul Young knows how to craft a deliciously intriguing angle, as he brings his readers down a fictional, yet religiously-based storyline. Eve is about none other than Eve herself, exploring The Creation narrative and the context of our beginnings.

Toast: a gorgeous cookbook about one of my favorite bites.  We’re always reading cookbooks for inspiration in the kitchen, so this was a no-brainer.

The Southerner’s Cookbook
:
By the editors of Garden & Gun, this is definitely an entertaining staple.

All In Good TasteThis book by Kate Spade is filled with helpful how-to’s and charming entertaining tips you’ll be dying to put to use at your next soiree.

Love Style Life: After Kat’s obsession with How to be Parisian Wherever You Are, she knew she would love this NY Times bestseller by one of our go-to’s for all things chic: Garance Doré.  Stay tuned for Kat’s favorite takeaways from Garance’s life + travel wisdom (and I’m sure a stylish ‘gram with the book or two).

Harry Potter
: it would be an injustice to write any kind of reading post without mentioning this series.  The WOM team doesn’t pretend to be anything but dorks when it comes to our favorite wizarding gang.  It’s one of those series that you always come back to, whether you’re doing a quick reread, watching the movies or listening on Audible (Kat’s favorite road trip companion).  I’ll be proud to pass down my limited edition series someday, originally snagged on One Kings Lane, and I encourage any true fan to own their own collector’s edition series.

What books are you currently reading?  Any you can’t put down?  Let us know in the comments below and by using #WOMBookClub on social media what we should be reading next and follow along as we share our thoughts on a new book each month in our new series Book Club (I know original name right).  Next up, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up for me and, Love Style Life for Kat.  Truly, MKR
